After more than 20 years away, my mom decided to watch the show because I don't stop talking about it to her. The day she decided to tune in was unfortunately yesterday.
Can you imagine not watching a show for 20 years or so and then tuning in once only to see what went down yesterday? Needless to say, she won't be watching again and she told me that I need to find another show. She said if she ever comes to my house at 2:00 and I'm watching that, she is gonna whoop me. 35 years old and still being told I'm gonna be whooped by my mommy.

Quote 2caliente: It's all about balance for me. I'm fine with the mob if it took up only about a 1/4th of the show. I don't now want GH to jump on the medical show bandwagon. There's only so much of that I can take. There's already 5-6 prime time shows, so I don't want that taking up my daytime too. It gets very stale after a while. As with the mob 1/4 would be good. I'll pas son the "adventure" too. I simply want good stories be it mob related, hospital related, whatever. I do see a shift coming.

Yes, balance is a good thing. That way they offer a little something for every viewer.

Personally, I just expect that a show titled General Hospital would offer one or two medical/doctor stories.

IA, however, it does appear that a shift is coming.

Quote emanuelle marie: Yeah, but is Sonny really supposed to be sympathetic? I mean, there's moments of sympathy, moments when he gets to ruminate on all the mistakes his made in his life and all the sacrifices he's made to achieve this level of crime lordishness, but now we also get the balance of him also being this true criminal, who deserves everything he gets and more.

Don't get me wrong, I flove Sonny, always have - but I've always felt it was a little immoral to romanticize his character as this criminal with a heart of gold, which makes people in his profession seem innocuous. I like that GH is offering up consequences for him. I also think that's why Dante is there. I do think he will eventually take down Sonny's business, and not in a sweet way. I think Sonny may only get a week's worth of jail time, but he's definitely going to get some.

I think the writer's gave a good indication with Dante's speech to Olivia. His comment about CZ being crazy and dangerous but Sonny didn't have the right to be her judge and jury and Jason, her executioner. Dante's not going to be swayed by his blood connection, it will probably just make him work twice as hard.

Now, regarding the hospital, yeah - if they could give us a dramatic curve as compelling as the Mafia stuff, I would love to see it. Nothing ridiculous (ie a cholera outbreak) but maybe Patrick starts moving against our upcoming Steven Lars Webber? Or maybe staffing cutbacks like on Gray's Anatomy?

Quite honestly, me ...I can't flippin' wait for the new Casadine/Spencer feud

Nice post!

I have never found Sonny sympathetic, have never liked him at all, but have read many times on this mb and others that longtime viewers used to enjoy Sonny and thought of him as the bad boy with heart of gold scenario as you pointed out.

Now, it seems, he doesn't have many fans left, though there are some.

Wow. Sounds like you definitely picked the wrong day to watch with your mom.

I was actually surprised to see GH go all Good Fellas on us yesterday...totally didn't expect that after years of watching the Teddy Bear Mob skipping about Port Chuck. I thought it was a great show but I was bothered by Michael killing Claudia. There was just no hesitation there...he wanted to kill her (even though she was holding his baby sister who could have easily been injured). The fact that Michael's being played at 17 (still a child) was troublesome...this level of criminality should be left to the adults. I suspect Michael will consider himself a part of the mob now...isn't that how it works in the real mob...do a hit to prove you're in. I really wanted all of Sonny's children to stay out of his life. So, can we find a vacant cell for Sonny please? His reign must end.

Thanks, onlygh. I just found the whole thing very, very disturbing.

I hope you are right and this is all a precursor to the downfall of Sonny and the mob. It is definitely time.

Totally disagree with you guys, I think GH should have other stories beside the mob, it does not have to always take center stage but the mob is what sets GH apart of other soaps. Personally I like it the way it is but I am ready to have Lucky, Liz and Nic take center stage with a great story......

In not one of my many posts on this board regarding this particular topic have I ever asserted that the mob should go bye-bye on GH. The mob has long been a significant part of the show and I'm OK with it staying that way, so long as there is balance with the non-mob stories; the ensemble is fully-utilized; and most of the mob action focuses on the family dysfunction arising from it.

A poster a few posts back pointed out Sonny and his lifestyle having been romanticized and now we are seeing the consequences of those choices now coming into play. I agree 100%! Sonny and Carly vilified AJ to no end and constantly harped what a horrible father he would be to Michael. Well look at the father he got - a monster who told his son smashing someone in the head with an axe was a good thing. You could see the conflict in Carly as she sat in the hospital bed. She loves Michael but she is also afraid of him. Seeing him kill Claudia has been a big wake up call. A for Jason he is so bent on protecting Michael that he can't even see how damaged Michael really is.

I don't like Michael he is going to be a bigger mobster than his Step-Dad! IMHO

Michael did not kill AJ, it was the Psychiatrist guy who was treating Jason. I'm not good with details, but it had something to do with Jason's original brain damage and AJ paying this guy to keep Jason brain damaged?? Not sure, but I think they made it look like it could have been Michael, but it turned out not to be him in the end.

Jason actually killed AJ. They were fighting at the Q's and during the stuggle AJ fell over the balcony at the top of the stairs. Jason didn't do it on purpose, it was an accident.

Actually what happened was this. Jason and AJ had a fight where AJ fell. He broke his back and was hospitalized where he was suffocated by Dr. Asher Thomas.

ahhhh!!! I didn't remeber that part. I do now thought, didn't they find a pillow thread in his lungs and it was a who-done-it for a while?

Hi GHPrincess. Honestly, I can't remember the details. I am fairly certain that there was some mystery surrounding AJ's death.

I totally agree. There needs to be balance between mob and non-mob storylines.

I would also add that there needs to be a balance between the competence level of the cops and the mobsters as well as a balance between the successes of the police and the mobsters. If the police could be portrayed as intelligent, street-smart and capable, then there would be a viable tension within the show. If they both have successes, then it would solve a lot of problems IMO. They could even reluctantly work together on some things. Who knows?

While I don't like Sonny at all, I appreciate that there are many who do. The glory needs to be shared. While I totally support the police, I don't like to feel as if I'm supporting a doofus. I just have a huge problem with the mob being the moral authority on the show. They can each have their place, if done right.

The one exception that I would like to see is an end to the bloody and cold revenge. Killing for protection is one thing, cold retribution, especially amongst youth -- who receive praise for it -- is a little much and a little disturbing for me.
