To win an Emmy, you have to have had good scenes from a good s/l -- unless you're TG, of course, who nominates himself every year whether he's done anything interesting or not. . Except for the drug s/l, GV didn't have enough screen time with a real story.

right Cherry...and he SHOULD have won an Emmy for that drug addiction story line...JJ is not a better actor than GV...he's a different actor...they both brought different qualities to the role...one simply cannot compare the two...and why would one want to?...

Thank you! GV is hot, but JJ is a great actor. He's got presence on screen, and delivers each line superbly. I don't think the writers all of a sudden decided to get it right. It's JJ! I've been waiting for him to get back for ten years and frankly, I get butterflies watching him on screen. I don't even care who he's doing his scenes with. He's lucky and i'm glad he's finally back.

Quote MaxiRocks: My friend and I were having the exact same discussion last night. I have heard Luke and Lucky have that conversation 1000 times and Old Lucky always came off a little pathetic and weak. Jonathan Jackson just has a confidence and strength that resonates. GV was clearly the hotter Lucky but for some reason he never quite had the same bravado. I am loving JJ!

ITA! I think the lines are the same, I think that the delivery makes a world of differnce. JJ is much more suitable/beleivable as Luke's son, I just love him! And now that he's back I am a liz and lucky fan once more where as I was previously leaning towards Nik for her.

JJ brings many layers to his version of Lucky. I also love how his manerisms are reflective of Luke's. I'm liking him as the new old Lucky!

I agree the writing is still the same...Lucky is still acting like a love stoned fool but the interpretation is different. It's actually painful to watch now. Here's a YT vid of JJ talking about returning to the role of Lucky:

I also doubt that JJ is just going to be on GH for 6 months. This has been disputed numerous times already.

I'm probably biased but JJ rocks Lucky like none other. He has always been Luke's son and GV just wasn't. JJ has that cynical sarcasm of Luke's combined with the gentleness of Laura. When he called Laura on the phone, I could feel the pain and it was like Laura was there to me. Could just be me, but I am so freaking amazingly happy that JJ is back. I just hope we get to experience some of his music too. Remember, Lucky was gonna be a musician and Liz an artist back in the beginning, I would love for some family scenes, with the guitar.

IMO JJ's Lucky is more believable as Luke's son b/c he originated the role and was on GH for what, 10 yrs or more? I'm not an LL2 fan just b/c he's back tho. That ship has still sunk in my eyes.

I have to agree with you. It's painful to watch him declare his love for Liz and show an endless amount of support to her. The look of confusion in his eyes is painful to watch.

JJ has brought an emotional weight to his Lucky. JJ's Lucky is intense, layered with emotions, vulnerable, tender and soulful. It somehow makes Liz look even more guilty. Another poster somewhere on this board made the same comment that with JJ's Lucky, Liz and Nik seem to look more guilty. With GV's Lucky, Niz never seem to look guilty. They seem to justify their actions as irresistible or give off that kind of impression. Not with JJ's Lucky. The scene with Nik on the docks - Nik really looked uncomfortable. Maybe Liz and Nik always felt guilty and uncomfortable about the affair and I never paid much attention because I just couldn't get into the s/l and I found it revolting. Now wtih JJ's Lucky, I am paying more attention. I find JJ riveting on the screen. His delivery is more emotional, has more depth and is more layered. I feel pulled into each of his scene and I can't take my eyes off him. Now I was a huge fan of GV's Lucky. I was very disappointed to hear that he was fired and I was skeptical of JJ until I watch Tuesday's epi. Wow, I was stunned by the caliber of JJ's acting.

Now I can't wait to see the next GH epi. I intend to watch GH regularly so that i won't miss a scene of JJ's Lucky. I am really looking forward to Lucky finding out about Niz, the upcoming Spence/Cassadine feud with Lucky and Nik, the two brothers going at it. I hope that the mob stories will now take a backseat (forever I hope!) and the GH writers/TPTB will keep the Spencers and Cassadines front and center where they belong.

In some cases the actor just makes the charector. I think that's the case with JJ and Lucky. I never liked GV as Lucky because it didnt feel like Lucky. That's nothing against GV it's just that JJ gives off a part of himself to the charector that no other actor can pull off.

There are very few replacments I ever like in soaps actually. The mannerisms of the acor play such a huge role that when they are replaced you feel like you have to relearn the charector. The only replacment I ever liked on Gh was LW's Carly.

I agree with this whole post. About JJ, and Carly. She is the only replacement on any soap that I loved. And I actually liked all three Carly's for different reasons. (not counting crazy Carly for obvious reasons). But the character of Lucky was originated by JJ in such a unique and defining way that, like you said, caused the mannerisms to help make the character so separate from anything else any other actor could bring. You could cast an academy award winning actor that would be perfect for the part, and I would still think that JJ is the only Lucky in the universe.
