ok, I read this all the time on this MB and other MB's about the writers trying to train/fool us viewers/posters into liking a coupling or character.... and I just don't get why people say this all the time

I get that people want to believe that their favorite couple will love one another for all time and no matter who they are with currently or how many times they say they no longer have interest for the original love..... the viewer/poster doesn't buy it and continue to say the character is being written out of character, yada, yada, yada......

Its almost as if the viewer/poster wants to believe what they want and not what is happening on screen. So what if the writers are trying to "sell" a certain couple or character?? it is the story, that is their job.... they need to sell it to you so you watch.

I get that you don't have to "buy it" meaning, like it.... but you do have to accept that it is happening..... just tired of hearing that saying over and over.

Oh man I so agree with you! It still amazes me to see people argue so much over a fictional show.

Okay- apparently I can't quote you NoSoup. But here's my take on the situation.

As an example; with new characters tptb have a habit of force-feeding new characters to viewers or trying to train viewers into liking them. Unfortunately the opposite usually happens and we don't like them, i.e. Rebecca, Clauds.

I don't see why you have to accept any storyline, most are pretty open to interpretation because we know how fast things change on soaps. Or how there ends up being some twist. If people want to interpret things differently, why not? Who/ What is it hurting?

Where are you hearing this saying "over and over" anyways? Just on this board in general or a specific thread?

Wow! Things are bad around here. Someone must have reported NoSoup's original post as a bad one. What in the world is reportable about it?

OK...I'm not ashamed to admit that I can be "trained" to like a new couple/character/storyline. So what? I call it adaptability.

Right now, I'm getting myself mentally prepared to be trained to ♥♥LOVE♥♥ L&L2 again. With Jonathan Jackson back in the saddle, I anticipate no problems at all with that. Nearly a year ago, I saw the writing on the wall as far as the imminent demise of JoLu was concerned so I trained myself to become an ex-fan. You know what I got out of that...two infinitely more interesting and sexy couples! I've tried to train myself to like Spixie but that one I can't quite manage...but that's OK...they're just one of several couples on GH now...I can wait them out. Teeheehee...I'm even training myself to enjoy Kate...someone I've hated since day one...right Peg?

Call me fickle if you will but GH is my comfort food and I find that I get a lot more out of it if I don't get too set in my ways where couples/characters/storylines are concerned. It is a soap after all...enjoy your faves while you can...things will change eventually...and then you'll have to retrain yourself...

anyways, I see what you are saying Lemone. I just meant no one has to like any any storyline, couple or character..... but they do have to realize it is happening whether they like it or not.

As for where... mostly those Invision Boards I read it on. B/c those are usually dedicated to one couple or character.... and when that couple is no longer, they use this phrase to explain why they couple is no longer together, and it drives me nuts!

I'm not avoiding anything! Couples, singles, whatever. Why do we have to walk around on eggshells here? Its a darn Soap forum for Pete's sake. If someone dosen't like what is here and gets really angry, I wish they would just move on and not bother to give their angry retorts. Whomever reported NoSoup must have no other life than coming on line to the Soap forum. Geesh! With so many other real serious things going on in the world, its nice to have a diversion - such as entertainment on tv and a place to discuss the show with everyone.

I think that if you like one character in a new pair and the other character treats them right and exhibits love toward them, you can be trained in liking them.

It also goes the other way; if you love a couple and one starts treating the other bad you may decide you no longer want them together.

But then there are some couples that no matter how good they are to each other, a fan will just not see any chemistry and can't root for them.

I also think that a fans view of a character can be affected by how they are liked in PC.

Some villians are forgiven while others are not. IMV lots of fans did not like Clauida in the beginning because no one is PC liked her and the writers had her pissing off numerous fanbases by having her hit on guys who were already paired with women.

Yes, the writers can make or break a character.
