I was watching GH on youtube recently and GH was really good back then. It wasn't focused on one person or the same topic. GH had such as diverse cast with good storylines and focused on traditions like Steve Hardy's Christmas story that he told the children in the hospital to the Nurse's Ball that was every year. Not only was Luke and Laura the supercouple at that time but they also had storylines involving the Quatermaine's, Hardy's, Webber's. I feel cheated now because all GH is about the Mob, Sonny, and Jason. Does anybody know what I'm talking about? Is there anyone out there besides me who is frustrated with how GH is now? The cast on GH now is good but all we ever see is the same thing. Does the characters of Bobbie, Monica, or Luke even exist anymore? It seemed to me that during the late 70's into the 80's almost every character was used in the show. GH back then seemed fun and exciting and I miss that now. Am I the only one?

I completely understand what you mean and you are not the only one.

I miss:

Cast and storyline integration (although, that is improving, but I would like more than a few characters highlighted)

The police being the good guys, with the anti-heros being rebels but working with the police overall. I feel like a lot of good characters were sacrificed to prop the mob being the "good guys".

Storylines for couples after they become couples that allow them to be strong couples in love. Don't just tear them up.

Angst that uses third parties and sleaze as the exception rather than the go-to angst.

Romance on a consistent basis

Angst and storylines that reflect what is special and unique about a character and couple. Don't change them to fit the angst, fit the angst to them. Otherwise, they lose what makes them special in the first place.

Storyline balance and not storyline blocking (like all of one storyline for a few weeks and then nothing on it while another storyline takes over). This destroys momentum and results in overkill. I was happy about my couple, Spixie being on all the time and now there's nothing. I would rather have a balance with them on more regularly than a feast or famine. Alternately, when Claudia/Sonny/Carly/Jax were on all the time after the accident, I have never been so depressed watching the show due to the ongoing gloom. It needed something light to balance it.

I miss seeing the vets that I watched growing up. I would love to see Mac get his own storyline and have a romance. I would love for Monica to have a romance and see how she/others deal with it post-Alan.

I miss characters and couples allowed to be in love and have fun for more than a couple of episodes. I think this is important for in between stories. I remember stories would tie up around late November and then there were happy family moments and bonding over the holidays. Its important to reward fans for enduring the angst.

Like you said, I miss writing being in place for all of the characters on the show.

That's what I miss.

Sorry for the rant.

I also watch General Hospital on Youtube. You're right! General Hospital was really good back then. I think all soaps were better back then. Now everything is so repetitive. Don't get me wrong, I love Jason but all we see is him doing is the same thing. As for Bobbie, I wish the writers could give her a storyline. When was the last time she had a conversation with Luke or even a talk with her daughter? Well anyway, the main reason why I go on Youtube is to see the Brenda and Sonny scenes. The Puerto Rico scenes are my favorite. In my opinion, Sonny worked out best with Brenda.

I didn't start watching GH until 2005. I wish I had started sooner. But, I miss anything Luke&Laura. I love seem them together. I also love seeing them interact with their family. I think that Luke&Laura deserve to be together. I would love to see a story between them that lets them deal with the issues that kept them apart. I think that could capitalize on Luke&Laura if they would just listen to the fans. I also would love to see more karoke at Jakes. I think that it provides a way to see all of the characters& by diverse. I would love to see my of the couples as well. I think that GH needs to focus more on families and couples. I never saw the nurses ball. I would love to see that as well.

Can I just co-sign your response? Because you pretty much nailed how I fell about it, especially the parts about balance and story blocking.

I'll make it simple and just write a list

the nurses ball
cast and s/l integration
the outback
jagger/karen not necessarily together
brenda
lucy coe
amber tamblyn as emily
bobbie spencer
anna devane and her spy missions/ faison
an honestly great supercouple doesn't have to be luke and laura but we need one.
lois and ned/ eddie mane
claudia would be the first and only woman he hasn't taken to his island the island scenes were always pretty
the Q's interacting with other characters
I'm sure there is more I'm forgetting

I second that emotion.

I agree with everything that was posted.

I miss Bobbie. She needs more time. I miss Leslie. They bring her back from the dead and then whoosh! she's gone. I am hoping that Patrick will be the one who reads to the children at Christmastime. I miss couples staying together. There is no reason why everyone always has to break up and be miserable. Weddings don't happen, hearts always broken. Come on, alot of soaps have marriages that last. I miss Felicia. She needs to come back and Maxie and her need to have it out and make peace. I miss Lucy, Kevin, Scott, Laura and I don't get enough Monica. I hate Luke and Tracy being married, its such a waste.
