EJ saves Rafe's life, Stefano packs to leave Salem, and Melanie admits to Stephanie that she's into both Philip and Nathan.
Rafe confirms that Sami is Sydney’s mother at Pier 27 and nearby, Mateo calls Stefano to tell him he has tracked down his problem. "Then rid me of it," he orders. Rafe thinks the tough part is telling Sami. As Mateo takes aim, Rafe stands up and as Mateo shoots, EJ grabs the gun and pushes Mateo away. Rafe falls to the ground. EJ gets him up and says his guess is Rafe stumbled into something. He looks at the documents Rafe’s holding and wonders if it has to do with them. Roman drops by and Rafe tells him what happened. EJ claims to have been passing through and found this gentleman pointing a gun at Rafe. Roman asks if the hit man works for EJ. He is the head of the family, after all. "If I’m the head of the family, why would I stop somebody from doing a job?" Mateo says he must have wound up in a family fight and glares at EJ, and tells Roman that Stefano DiMera hired him! Later, EJ calls Stefano on the sly, to tell him what happened. Stefano feels betrayed by EJ and EJ feels betrayed by his father.
At the mansion, Stefano calls somebody on the phone and asks if it’s done. Kate interrupts, wanting to know who he’s talking to. Stefano tells her the one rule is that she can’t ask questions about his business. Kate asks him to slow down at work but he can handle it and asks her to trust him.
Nathan gives Stephanie the flowers from the woman in the pub who he gave a tracheotomy to. Melanie rushes to the nurse's station and tells him she aced her mid-term and is first in her class and Nathan picks her up and engulfs her in a hug. Stephanie congratulates her and surprises Melanie, who knows things are a bit strained between them. Stephanie suggests they confront their issues. Melanie misinterprets what she’s saying and thinks she wants to wrestle her. Stephanie and Nathan start to laugh. Their issues are in the past and she’d like to work on their friendship! Stephanie suggests she take them to dinner to celebrate Nathan saving a life and Melanie acing her exams. Nathan can’t go but the girls head off, happily.
In her room, Brady offers to help her find the main drug lord so she’ll be free. He believes her. Ari says she could be making it up. He knows better. Later, they wind up in bed. After sex, they promise no more lies and no more guilt, and start making out again. They have sex again and discuss how to find out who the head of this operation is so Ari can get out of this mess. Brady promises not to divulge her secrets and they start to kiss.
At the pub, Sami begs Nicole to tell her what’s going on with her and Rafe. Whatever it is he’s working on for her future is about Sydney and Sami wants to know what that is. Nicole thinks Rafe’s making up some deep dark secret about her baby. She doesn’t think he’s sane. Sami says whatever Rafe’s working on is supposed to make her happy and that Nicole’s a part of it. She’s sure that Nicole and Rafe know what’s going on. Sami’s sure that Rafe will tell them all about it when he gets back. Nicole mutters. "If he gets back," causing Sami to be confused. Nicole thinks he’ll run away from her again and she doesn’t want to see her friend get hurt when Rafe does another disappearing act. Sami knows he left because of her and knows she’s a difficult person to be around. If he leaves again, it’s her fault… Nicole stops her. She did nothing wrong. She’s the victim, here! Nicole suddenly jumps up, unable to continue and leaves the pub. Sami races after her.
Sami stops Nicole outside the pub. Almost in tears, she says she hates seeing Nicole like this. They’re friends and she wants to help. Nicole starts to cry. There’s nothing Sami can do and she’s not her friend. Sami is confused and Nicole says she had to protect herself. They can’t be friends because she knows Sami will be very sad, very soon. Sami gets a call from Rafe and asks Nicole to hang on. Rafe demands her to come home, right away. He lets her know Stefano tried to have him killed after he learned he had the proof he needed. "Proof? What proof," Sami asks. Nicole hears that and runs away.
From Java, Philip makes a call to Melanie and leaves a message urging her to figure out what she wants.
Melanie and Stephanie wind up at Java and when Melanie sees Philip, she tries to steer Stephanie toward the pub, saying she’s really hungry. Philip spots them and asks why she’s running away from him. Philip asks why she hasn’t responded to his voice mail and she says she never leaves her phone on at the hospital. Melanie says she and Stephanie have got to leave for the pub so Philip invites himself along. Melanie yells, "No!" She and Stephanie have things to discuss in private. Philip thinks they’ll be talking about him but Melanie says that’s not going to happen and once Philip leaves, Melanie says that maybe they should just stay there for coffee! Stephanie wants to know what’s going on with Philip. She’s over him and it’s obvious that Melanie and Philip aren’t over each other. Melanie doesn’t want to hurt her feelings. Melanie’s phone rings and knowing it’s Philip, she refuses to get it. She admits to Stephanie that she likes both Philip and Nathan.
As he's walking by the pier, Nathan overhears Philip’s message for Melanie. "I know I said I'd stop chasing you, but we belong together. I'm not going to stop." To himself, Nathan says "We'll see about that."
Stefano packs up his things at the mansion and tells Kate he’s got to leave for a while. She should take charge of the house while he’s gone. "Really, me? Not EJ?" Stefano thinks she should consult with him but he’s not as trustworthy as he has been. He kisses and hugs her and tells her to be well, before leaving. As he leaves, Mary comes in from another room and hands Sydney off to Kate. Her sister has been admitted to the hospital and she’s got to leave. "When will you be back," asks Kate. Mary’s not sure and rushes out the door as Kate looks on. Later, Chloe arrives. Nicole asked her to come over. Kate has no idea why, but doesn’t care. She asks Chloe to babysit. Chloe is confused but agrees to it. Chloe and Kate exchange barbs and Kate asks Chloe to take Sydney home with her.
At Salem PD, EJ tells Roman he’s his own council. Rafe wants to leave. There’s something he needs to take care of that involves Sami. He knows with EJ as his own council that both EJ and Stefano will get off. Roman allows Rafe to leave. Later, EJ is done giving a statement. Roman tells him that Stefano has left town. Did EJ tip him off? EJ has been with Roman the whole time and when Roman says he could check on his phone records, EJ says that’s fine, as long as he has probable cause. Roman can’t decide which side EJ’s on!
From home, Chloe chats with Sydney and wonders where Nicole is.
Nicole arrives at the mansion and asks Harold where Sydney is. Harold hasn’t a clue.
Sami runs home and is upset that Stefano tried to put a hit on him. Rafe tells her it’s fine. He has something to tell her. "Sami, your baby is alive."

Bo asks Hope, "Can I come in? I wanted to say I'm sorry." Hope smiles.
Rafe says, "Grace was never your child." Sami asks, "How dare you?"
Nicole asks EJ where Sydney is. Kate watches them as Nicole asks, "What did you do with her?"
