Sami gives Nicole fifty-grand, Philip tells Kate to stay out of his life, and Daniel tells Chloe she can't have kids.

Nicole leaves a message for Chloe to return her call. Sami overhears, outside the pub and tells her she’ll help her. Nicole says she can't do that! She doesn’t know what’s going on. Sami knows she fears losing her baby to Chad. Nicole balks at going home with Sami, but Sami’s persistence wears on her.

Nicole and Sami are at Sami’s place and Sami says Mia wants Nicole to raise Sydney. Sami believes when it comes to kids, the mother has a right to do anything. The right or wrong doesn’t matter. Nicole eyes her and realizes she’s doing this because of Grace. Nicole wonders if Grace were still alive, would Sami still want to help her? "How could you ask me that? I feel what I feel and I want to help you," she says, dodging the question. Nicole admits she’s leaving the country, permanently. She barely has any money, considering EJ has locked down her credit cards. Nicole apologizes to Sami but Sami tells her it’s okay. "Tell me what’s wrong and we’ll fix it." She calls herself disgusting and an unfit mother but Sami says they don’t know her like she does. She has seen her with her daughter and biology isn’t everything. She’s a good mother. Nicole struggles not to break right down and blurts out that Sami’s the last person in the world who should be helping her! Nicole almost tells her the truth but Sydney starts making noises and it distracts them. Nicole needs fifty-thousand dollars and Sami doesn’t have it. Sami knows where she can get it and rushes out. While she’s gone, Nicole talks to Sydney, who she calls her life. Sami returns later with fifty-thousand dollars and asks her to promise she won’t tell anyone. John gave her the money after she got out of witness protection. That’s what she’s been living on. Nicole says he’s a great guy and tears up and thanks Sami, who realizes this is goodbye for her and Sydney. She tells Sydney that she’s so sweet and will miss having her in her life. Sami gets tears in her eyes as they say their goodbyes.

Kate runs into Stephanie at Java. Stephanie asks how Stefano’s doing but Kate changes the subject. She wants to discuss Philip and Stephanie getting back together.

Philip comes across Melanie and Nathan at an outdoor movie, packing up their blanket. Philip says he’s alone and Melanie’s face falls. Nathan leaves, momentarily and Philip decides it’s time to leave. Nathan returns and Melanie says they can now finish their date. The movie was just the first half.

Lexi calls EJ to tell him to get to the hospital. Stefano’s waking up.

In his room, Stefano mumbles Nicole’s name.

EJ arrives to the hospital and Lexi says Stefano should be waking up anytime, but she warns him that there’s no guarantee the father they once knew will return. They rush into his room and hear him mumbling. He opens his eyes to big smiles and they ask him if he knows who they are. Lexi asks EJ to be patient, but EJ’s getting worried. "Lexi’s here. Do you know who Lexi is?" Stefano says of course he does and he’d appreciate it if he’d stop yelling! EJ’s face lights up and he kisses his father. "He’s back!" Stefano says of course he is. "What did you expect?" Lexi tells him he’ll feel weak for a while but will recover. Stefano’s happy to see Alexandra’s face and is told he has been out a few days. Stefano asks where Kate is, and EJ asks if he’s sure he wants her to come there, after what happened. Stefano laughs. This is his fault. He’ll stick to his diet to the letter, now, and asks EJ to call Kate and his grandchildren. EJ and Lexi share a private look. Stefano wants to see Theo, Giovanni, Sydney and Nicole. EJ struggles to tell Stefano what has happened.

Chloe burns dinner at the apartment when Maggie arrives with an "I’m sorry cake." She and Daniel made up, but she and Chloe haven’t had a chance to talk. How is she? Chloe’s never been happier in her life. Chloe listens to a message from Nicole, about Chad suing for custody of Sydney, so she tells Maggie the whole sordid tale and says she doesn’t think she could survive adopting a baby and having somebody take it away. She and Daniel will have their own baby, soon. Maggie wonders if it’s wise, considering her medical history. Chloe’s positive it’s fine.

At the hospital, Daniel looks at Chloe’s records and swears. Later, he calls for an expert opinion, as he’s too close to the case.

Daniel arrives with flowers for Chloe. They get into bed and after sex, they eat a piece of Maggie’s cake. Chloe wants to learn to cook but Daniel says that’s what restaurants are for. Chloe wants to be able to cook for him and their kids. Daniel’s face falls and she notices. He tells her that there could be an issue with her having a baby. He has already decided she’ll have testing done. Chloe thinks this is his way of telling her he doesn’t want a baby with her but that’s not just about her health. There could be another problem. When she was ill, the treatment made it likely that she can’t conceive. Chloe stares.

Back at Java, Stephanie says it’s not going to happen. She loved Philip for who she thought he could be and not who he is. Kate doesn’t listen. Instead, she thinks love will keep them together. Philip comes upon them and tells Kate to shut up. Stephanie has to leave and after she goes, Philip tells her she has no right to interfere in his life. Kate still loves him and can’t stop but he calls it interfering, not love. They bicker and Kate thinks he’s doing everything wrong. Philip starts to laugh. That’s funny, coming from her! Kate remembers his relationships all ending terribly and Stephanie’s the one constant. Philip tells her to worry about her new family and bore them with her stupid advice and phony concern.

Back at home, Melanie and Nathan gaze into each other’s eyes. Nathan finds Melanie beautiful. They share a kiss until Maggie turns the lights on. She told them no hanky panky and though they deny it, she saw them and made it clear. They say it won’t happen again but it doesn’t matter to Maggie, who has lost trust for Melanie. Melanie tears up and Nathan admits they broke the rules but promise not to do it again. Maggie’s sorry, but she can’t have them living there together. Melanie offers to pack her things but Nathan won’t hear of it. He’s moving out.
