Daniel tells Lexi he is leaving, Chloe reminds herself that she loves Lucas, Stephanie tells Melanie that love isn't enough, and Philip tells Brady he can’t lose Stephanie.
At Ciara’s birthday party in the park, Bo and Hope unwrap a gift with Ciara as Nathan shows up and takes Ciara to play. A mysterious man holding Ciara’s picture watches them from behind the bushes. Abe and Theo arrive and Caroline welcomes them. Hope offers them cupcakes and Abe thanks her for the generous check she gave to the autism charity, but Hope insists that was supposed to be anonymous. Hope, Caroline, and Theo walk off to find Ciara. Bo playfully tells Abe that Ciara thinks of Theo as her “best boy friend.” Abe asks Bo how things have been between him and Hope with his visions. Bo says the visions are still active. Abe asks him about the latest vision and Bo explains that Zack warned him if Ciara loses her teddy bear, something bad would happen. Bo says he’s not taking any chances as Hope interrupts. The mysterious man continues watching Ciara from a distance. Later, Bo and Hope clean up as Ciara plays with her friend, Tracey, with Tracey’s mom watching them. Tracey runs off and her mother chases after her. The mysterious man approaches Ciara and tells her that they are birthday buddies. He offers her a lollipop and Ciara takes it. The stranger tells Ciara he has more of those and it could be her birthday every day. He tells her to have fun and walks off. Hope and Bo walk by just as Tracey and her mom return. Hope asks Ciara where she got the lollipop from and Ciara says her friend gave it to her. Hope unwraps it for her.
At the Horton cabin, Philip apologizes to Stephanie and wants to give her a proper goodbye. He tells her he’ll always love her as Melanie watches from outside. Brady walks up behind her and asks her what she’s up to. Melanie jokes that she’s working on her sunburn, but Brady says she’s trying to get Philip and Stephanie back together. They both look on as Philip asks Stephanie how she could say it’s over if she still loves him. Philip kisses Stephanie, as Melanie tells Brady that she is “two for two.” Brady tells her that he and Arianna flopped since she turned him down. Melanie tells him not to give up. Brady says what Melanie’s doing is great but wonders what’s in it for her. He reminds her that she had a crush on Philip but Melanie says that’s in the past and she just wants to see them happy because she feels guilty for what she did to them before. Inside the cabin, Stephanie tries to explain to Philip again why they can’t be together but he doesn’t want to hear it. Stephanie tries to leave but Philip stops her and pleads for another chance. Stephanie says it doesn’t matter how many times they pick up the pieces, and walks out as Philip follows her. Brady stops Philip and leads him back inside the cabin. He reminds Philip that women hate being pressured. Outside the cabin, Stephanie tells Melanie she can’t believe she did this, but cools off and says she doesn’t blame her. Melanie reminds Stephanie that she still loves Philip, but Stephanie says that even if you're madly in love, it is not enough. Melanie apologizes for interfering but Stephanie says it’s okay since her heart was in the right place. She leaves to catch the ferry. Brady walks out and asks Melanie how it went, Melanie tells him it didn’t go well and Brady excuses himself to catch the ferry. Melanie walks into the cabin and tells Philip that he must hate her for what she did. Philip reassures her that he doesn’t because she meant well. Philip says there’s nothing he can do to change Stephanie’s mind and it’s finally over this time. Melanie says she’ll help him get Stephanie back, but Philip says he’s not going to pressure her anymore. Philip thanks Melanie for her help and calls for his speedboat to get them off the island.
At the Java Café, Chris shows up to meet Kate who tells him that she cringes at Chloe and Daniel’s lack of talent. Kate tells him that Daniel has “a thing” for Chloe, and suggests that something is going on between them besides “healthy snacks.” Kate thinks that it’s better Daniel is quitting instead of her having to fire him. She says Daniel is replaceable while Chloe is her daughter-in-law. Chris says that Kate isn’t the “typical mother-in-law” since she actually cares for her daughter-in-law.
At the hospital, Daniel gives Nurse Maxine his letter of resignation to give to Lexi, but the nurse tells him to give it to her himself. In Chloe’s room, Lexi asks Chloe if she really wants Daniel to stay away from her, even if he’s the best diagnostic doctor they have. Chloe insists that she doesn’t want Daniel to treat her. Lexi leaves Chloe’s room as Daniel tries to enter. Lexi tells him this patient is off limits. She explains that she has it under control and tells Daniel to go home. Daniel hands Lexi his letter of resignation and Lexi asks him why he’s leaving. Daniel says he’s tried to make it work but he needs a clean break professionally and personally. Lexi asks if this decision has anything to do with one of his patients. Daniel says there are no extenuating circumstances and insists he just needs to move on. Lexi reminds him that he’s an asset to this hospital and asks if she can talk him out of it, but Daniel insists that she can’t, and walks off.
Kate and Chris show up at Maggie’s and as Kate takes a phone call, Chris informs Jett that Daniel quit the show. Maggie overhears and asks why. Kate excuses herself with Jett and Maggie asks Chris what happened between Daniel and Chloe to make him quit. Chris hesitates and Maggie reminds him that Chloe is her nephew’s wife and she wants to know what’s going on. Chris gets a phone call from Kate and tells her about Maggie’s prying. Kate tells him to tell her discreetly but to keep her name out of it. They hang up and Kate says he’s the perfect accomplice. Maggie asks Chris what’s going on and Chris explains that there’s been tension between Daniel and Chloe. Chris wonders why, instead of being happy with his job, Daniel resisted it.
Chloe recalls making love with Daniel and reminds herself that she loves Lucas and has to keep her promise to God. Lexi walks back into Chloe’s room and wonders how the resignation letter involves Chloe. Chloe dreams about Daniel being in her room, where Chloe reminds him that they can’t be together because it was a mistake. Daniel tells her they fell in love and there’s nothing wrong with that and holds her. Chloe tosses in her sleep and says, “No Daniel, no!” as Lexi overhears and wonders what Daniel did to her. Nurse Maxine walks in with the latest test results that show what caused Chloe’s illness is still invisible. Lexi orders another test. Chloe has another illusion of Daniel being in her hospital room, but it turns out to be Kate. Kate explains that Lucas is out of town so she’s here for her. Kate tells her that Lexi told her about her decision to ask for another doctor besides Daniel. Kate says that was a good decision considering their history, and apologizes for forcing them to work together. Chloe says she can’t do it anymore, and Kate assures her that it’s not going to be a problem since Daniel has quit the show. She says after the next taping, Chloe will never have to see him again.
Nathan bumps into Daniel in the hospital locker room and asks Daniel about his resignation. He wishes him good luck and Daniel packs his things and leaves. Daniel pauses in front of Chloe’s room and recalls memories with her.
Later, in his apartment, Daniel sees a shirt and recalls a memory with Chloe wearing it. Daniel throws it into the garbage bin but then takes it out and packs it. He tells himself that he can do this as long as Chloe’s happy. The camera zooms in to show the bottle of poison planted on his desk.
Stephanie enters the hospital and asks the nurse where orientation for her new job is. Brady calls her to check up on her but Stephanie says she doesn’t want to talk about Philip anymore. Her voice cracks as she reassures Brady that she’s fine and hangs up. Brady doubts that Stephanie is okay. Crying hysterically, Stephanie walks into the locker room and Nathan asks her if she’s okay. Stephanie falls apart in his arms.
