Roman blasts Sami, Hope grills Nicole and Tony dies.
Sami tells Grace that Will is just mad at her, but he’ll come around. Roman walks in and asks whose baby that is. “She’s mine, Dad,” says Sami, who says she adopted Grace. Roman is skeptical, and Sami explains that in witness protection, she visited an orphanage and it’s where she met Grace. Roman reminds her she already has three children and though this is a nice story, he wants to hear the truth. Sami doesn’t like his line of questioning and tells him to accept this and love her and stop asking so many questions. Roman calls her impulsive, but Sami denies that. She has thought this decision through and through and needs his support. Caroline watches from the bar as Roman tells Sami he’s not going to say this is a good idea to placate her. She has no husband or job and he wants to know how in the hell she’s going to take on more responsibility than she already has. Sami yells that she loves the child and will take care of her come hell or high water. Roman’s not trying to hurt her, but he is, says Sami. Will’s a teenager and can practically take care of himself. Caroline comes up to them and tells Roman not to be so hard on Sami. Caroline reminds Roman that when they adopted Frankie and Max, the timing wasn’t good but it came from their hearts. They did fine. Roman says they did, but Sami’s alone. “There is a recession going on,” Roman reminds Sami. Roman finds out that Will’s meeting with Grace didn’t go so well. Sami thanks Caroline for standing up for her.
Rafe tells Will that Grace needs Sami more than he’ll ever know. Will thinks it’s another chance for her to play mommy, and runs off. Rafe follows. Will repeats that Sami has found a new toy, but Rafe says all he heard about in witness protection was Sami’s kids and the reason Sami adopted Grace was because of Will. Rafe reminds Will that people were getting murdered while Sami was in hiding and there were nights she’d cry herself to sleep, missing her kids. Sami sacrificed to save this orphan. Will doesn’t care, but Rafe urges him to stop acting like a jerk and see things through Sami’s eyes. Rafe says Will’s family just expanded. “Be happy. Suck it up.” Will doesn’t want to. Rafe says, “When I was 16…” he trails off and asks Will to do the right thing. Will says Rafe doesn’t get it. Sami can’t handle another kid on top of two toddlers, but Rafe disagrees. Will can help her. Will calls Rafe Mr. Positive, and Will realizes if he tells Sami he’s cool with this, it’ll make Sami happy. Will thinks that in six months the kid will end up alone just like him. Rafe tells Will to get over himself and stop reliving the old days. Rafe asks Will to consider seeing how much Sami has changed.
Back at the pub, Roman says Grace looks a little like him and says he’s proud of her for bringing the little one into her life. Sami’s thankful and Roman thinks someday soon, he’ll tell her this is the best thing she’s ever done, was to adopt Grace. Caroline returns and Roman tells her he’s on board. Caroline asks if he’s in love and he says he just met her. He probably will be, soon! Roman says to Sami that if she needs anything, he’s there for her. They hug. “I love you, sweetheart,” says Roman.
Hope grills Nicole, in the hospital waiting room, asking if Philip pushed Tony on to that piece of wood or if Tony fell. Nicole is nervous and refuses to answer. Philip urges her to tell the truth but Nicole runs off, yelling that she needs to think. Meanwhile, Stefano watches her like a hawk. Bo tells Philip to relax and Stefano asks Nicole if she’s going to tell the police what Philip did to Tony? Bo tells Stefano not to influence the witness and Hope tells Nicole they need an answer. Philip tells her not to put a DiMera slant on it and Bo tells Philip to shut up. Philip is worried she’ll lie. Victor comes into the hospital and tells Philip not to say another word. Stefano confronts Nicole, who walks away. He follows her and demands that she talk. Lexi and Bo rush to Nicole’s side and tell Stefano to stop badgering her. Nicole reminds Hope that last time she spoke with her, she was the one who was being grilled for murder. Lexi asks Nicole not to let Stefano upset her too much. Stefano picks on the easiest target. Nicole wonders if Tony will live through this. Lexi says Tony’s chances aren’t good. “I think he knows that.” Lexi says Tony wants to clear the air with EJ about something and that’s why he’s with him.
Victor thinks Philip did what he did to try to get back into his good graces. Philip says he just got into a fight and was ten feet away from Tony, during the fall. Bo hopes that Tony or Nicole backs it up. Otherwise the DA will make her own ruling.
Inside Tony’s room, Tony tries to communicate to EJ that Sydney’s not EJ’s kid with Nicole. EJ says he’ll be able to speak when the tube comes out of Tony’s mouth. “Are you sure this can’t wait a day or so?” Tony shakes his head and continues to write. He runs out of ink and EJ goes to grab a pen while Tony thinks to himself that EJ has no idea what’s coming to him. EJ asks Tony to forget about this. It’s making him so upset. When he comes home, he, Anna and Nicole will all take care of him. Nicole comes into his room and Tony becomes very agitated. EJ tries to calm him and Lexi rushes into his room, demanding to know what the hell is going on. Nicole and EJ leave the room and Lexi calms Tony down.
Outside Tony’s room, EJ lets Nicole know that Tony’s upset about something and is trying to write it down. Hope tells Nicole it’s time to get her statement. EJ goes back to Tony’s room while Nicole tells Hope that she saw Philip and Tony arguing at the pier. Bo pulls Hope aside.
Victor apologizes to Philip, thinking this is his fault. Philip reminds Victor that he would have fired himself as well, for what he did. Stefano comes by and tells them that it’s the authorities they should be worried about right now. Stefano tells Victor they once almost worked together and that once Philip took over Titan, the gloves came off. Philip goes at Stefano, and Victor stops him. If Philip is responsible for Tony’s death, Victor can expect him to do what any father would do.
Nearby, Nicole has to make sure Tony’s going to be okay first, before she tells Hope what she saw at the pier. Hope is confused.
Back in Tony’s room, Lexi tells Tony to stay calm. She needs to consult with Dr. Jonas and will be right back. EJ returns and agrees to get the pen and paper for him if he agrees to relax. Tony starts to write. EJ asks, “Is this something about Philip?” Tony becomes more agitated and suddenly his monitor goes crazy as he flatlines. EJ yells, “Tony! Tony! Help!” A nurse rushes into the room and works on Tony. EJ looks at the letter B on the paper and wonders what on earth it means. Lexi works on Tony with the nurse and when she can’t bring him back, she calls his time of death and starts to cry, as she holds his hand. EJ walks out of the room and a weeping EJ tells Nicole Tony had a heart attack. Nicole comforts him. Lexi returns to the waiting room and tells everyone they did all they could. “He’s gone.” She cries and EJ comforts her as Nicole ponders her next move and Stefano goes white and turns to Philip.
Sami meets Rafe outside the pub and Rafe wanders off when Will returns to apologize to Sami. Sami hugs him and tells him this is the best. Will says he’ll be home for dinner and leaves as Rafe returns, noticing Sami’s tears of happiness. She wonders what happened to make him turn around. Rafe says, “Who knows. Kids sometimes change their minds!” He grins happily.
