John and Marlena, Austin and Carrie have similar thoughts, Kayla and Steve are in trouble, and Lexi comes clean to Abe.
John finally is able to give Marlena a gorgeous and huge diamond ring- her old diamond in a new setting with sapphires added, (one for each year they have been together) and he also gives her a miniature wedding band for her charm bracelet! She's overcome, thinking it's perfect. They feel they've gotten closer. John gets down on one knee for the third time, and Marlena tells him he is such an old fashioned romantic man. He tells her years ago she found a confused man and inspired him, giving him her love and their daughter. She has made his life worth living; he tells her and wants to be together for the rest of their lives. He asks her to be his wife again, as she weeps, and smiles. She has a proposal of her own.
Carrie and Jim, the hospital administrator, arrive at Lexi's office. Tom asks Lexi if Carrie's accusations against her are true. He tells her that what she has done is a breach of her Hippocratic Oath, and asks her to prepare her defense. Lexi is quiet, telling him she has none because what Carrie says is correct. She apologizes and is told that the state board has to determine if she keeps her license but he terminates her contract effective immediately, without severance or benefits.
Steve brings beer and "soady" (his word for soda!) to Billie's place. He kisses her but she tells him now isn't the time. She feels guilty because Chelsea will be home soon. Chelsea butts in, insulting an amused Steve. He's undeterred, and asks her if they can get to know one another. Billie gets them some food while Steve and Chelsea talk.
Kayla visits Stephanie in the hospital. She's depressed that Max tried to break up with her but couldn't because she hyperventilated. She tells her mom, "I just can't take anymore bad stuff right now." The black gloved person (E.J.) watches the two talk from outside the room. Stephanie asks, "What is wrong with us?" They're in love with men who love others! Kayla is paged and has to leave, but Stephanie thinks it's very strange that someone is trying to page her, thinking it's a set up. She presses her mom not to leave.
Kayla goes into an empty examining room, only to have the door lock shut behind her. She tries to call out but nobody answers her, and when she finds that the phone is dead, she starts to get suspicious. Heavy breathing is heard through the vents, and then she hears someone call her name over and over. She asks them who they are.
Carrie meets with Austin, at the Penthouse Grill, feeling empty. She dislikes that she had to get Lexi fired, but Austin tells her not to blame herself. This is brought on by Sami, and things probably won't change until Sami is out of their lives. They hold hands, as Austin tells Carrie he wants to give High Style back to her! Carrie is ecstatic, but tells him it's not needed. He tells her that he wants to do it and to relocate the offices to Zurich. She tells Austin with a playful smile that she can't or won't marry him unless they marry first! He gets down on one knee with a ring and proposes, then the run off to find a justice of the peace!
Lexi and Abe show up at Penthouse Grill, too. She starts out by telling him she loves him, and doesn't want anymore secrets hanging over them. She tells him once he hears the truth he may never want to speak to her again! She tells him what went down with Sami's blackmail and her part in it, and how she was fired, due to her lies. He has to wonder if she told him the truth because she didn't want any secrets between him or because she knew he'd find out why she lost her job. She admits to both being reasons, and isn't sure if she'll be able to volunteer at the free clinic. She tells him she can deal with this, but not losing him. He takes the news well, telling her he loves him, and as long as she doesn't take up with Tek again, they're okay!
At Billie's, Steve tries to explain his relationship with Billie and tells Chelsea she doesn't have to like what's going on but she has to accept it. She then tells him he needs to accept a few things if he's to be with Billie. She asks if he knows that her mom was a drug addict (he does) and asks if he knew that Billie has made porn movies, when a hurt Billie overhears, coming out of the kitchen, telling Chelsea "That's enough!" Steve is disgusted, asking her if she felt powerful telling him that; telling her that everyone deserves a second chance. He tells her people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Just then he gets a frantic call from Stephanie, begging him to come quickly! Steve leaves and Chelsea tells Billie that Steve will never be there for her, and whenever Kayla calls, he will go running, just like he did now!
Steve arrives at the hospital to an anxious Stephanie describing what happened. She asks that he go to exam room #113 and Steve does, unknowingly stepping over a black glove right outside Stephanie's door! Kayla hears Steve pounding on the door. She's thankful he has found her, and once he's in, they hug. He relays to her how Stephanie called him. Kayla is still pretty freaked out as she explains what happened. They both go to the vent and are hit with a toxic smoke. Steve covers Kayla's face, as they go down to the floor, coughing.
At the justice of the peace, Austin and Carrie arrive, all dolled up! They explain that they have their license and beg to be married as soon as possible. The JP's wife tells them that they're booked up, but when she hears that they've waited so long and Austin is leaving town, she takes pity, agreeing to do it after the next couple marry. Austin and Carrie turn around and find a dressed up John and Marlena! All four are shocked!

Billie tells Bo that this can't be happening, "They can't die!"
Tek tells Lexi that he's sure there is something she can do for Kayla and Steve, but she can't because, "I'm a doctor who doesn't work here any more!"
E.J. asks Sami "If they're so lawful, why do you care about how they feel?" and Sami takes a drink as she says she doesn't!
Carrie tells Marlena, "I'm gonna miss you like crazy." And they say goodbye as Carrie and Austin leave.
