Sami goes into witness protection, Nicole babysits and Chelsea and Melanie get into it.

Melanie burns her anonymous note, in her room. Nick arrives and smells smoke. "What's going on?" Melanie lies that she smells nothing and Nick sees her baggage packed. She tells him she's getting out of Salem. Nick calls her innocent and she says he's the only person who thinks so. He urges her to stay, but Trent's dead and Max has turned on her. Nick wants her to stay. He cares about her and knows she feels the same, much to Melanie's surprise!

While crying and looking up 'living with lung cancer' on the internet at Java Café, Chelsea is interrupted by Evan, who gets her to open up. Chelsea cries that Kate has lung cancer and never smoked a day in her life. She explains about the fight they had and how she wished Kate would get out of her life for good.

Nicole lies about on the DiMera settee and reads about cramps in her baby book. She finds out it's normal to cramp when you first find out you're pregnant and appears satisfied. She doesn't care that somebody took a potshot at Sami and rants to Pookie that if EJ's still holding Sami's hand, she'll shoot them both.

At the cabin, Johnny points to Sami's baby bump and says, "Baby." EJ wants to know what his son is talking about, and hounds Sami when she tells him she has no idea. EJ asks why she's acting shifty, and Sami says she has no idea when she'll be back from witness protection. Her kids could be in college by then! Chloe and Roman arrive and Chloe blurts out that she thinks Sami's milking it for all it's worth! Lucas points out that Sami's having a tough time with this and EJ says Sami still hasn't answered his question. Sami says Johnny's learning new words, and they remember how she and Eric had their own secret language as kids. "There's nothing like twins," she says and asks Lucas and EJ to let the kids see each other while she's gone. Sami says goodbye as EJ leaves something in her pocket, and she leaves. Roman introduces her to Darryl, her guard. He explains she is to have no contact with anyone from Salem. Once they leave, Lucas is heartbroken for the kid's sake, but Chloe is happy she's gone. She accuses Lucas of being sad that Sami's gone. Chloe rants and raves that she's happy that Sami's gone and feels vindicated, but Lucas asks her to stop and listen. He feels the same way she does. "Does that make you happy," he asks. Sami has driven him nuts his whole life. "I'm sick of it," he admits! Chloe calms down and say she feels paranoid where he and Sami are concerned. Lucas thinks Sami will be gone for a long time. He thinks that Sami's also using her pregnancy as another reason to go into the program. Chloe brings up bad memories from Lucas and Sami's past, but Lucas would prefer not to rehash their history. Chloe wonders how Sami has still not figured out how her schemes never work. Talk turns to Allie and Chloe admits she really loves that little girl. Lucas moves in and gives Chloe a lingering kiss.

EJ ambles into the mansion to Nicole, who is angry that he lied to her about where he went this evening. "John told me," she says and EJ says it was pretty harrowing. She asks why he was at the cabin and EJ lies that he was there checking on his son, who is fine and now in bed. Nicole's happy to hear he's fine and apologizes for being impatient. EJ apologizes and shares that while they were talking, somebody tried to gun Sami down. He asks if she can look after Johnny while he goes for a walk. Nicole's happy to comfort Johnny if he wakes up. She thinks it'll be good practice and for her to bond with their baby's half brother! She thinks it'll be a piece of cake, but once EJ leaves, Johnny starts crying.
Nicole reads to Johnny and rocks him, yet he continues to scream. Nicole paces with Pookie as she considers what else to do. She'll sing! When that doesn't work, she checks if he's dry. He needs changing, so she baby talks while she takes him upstairs. After she changes him and gives him a snack, he starts crying again, so she gets him a drink, that he promptly throws at her, covering her in milk! Nicole steps outside the great room and closes the door…then screams!
Much later, EJ returns from his walk to a quiet mansion. He smiles and laughs as he sees Nicole, asleep on a chair, with Johnny in her lap! When she wakes up, Pookie's in her lap and Johnny's gone. She panics and starts yelling, "Johnny?" She searches all over and EJ comes upon her. "Nicole, what have you done with my son?" Nicole's face falls until EJ starts to laugh. He's in bed! Nicole lies that Johnny was fine and everything was great! EJ moves in for a kiss and they hear Johnny giggling to himself on the baby monitor.

Sami arrives at her new home. She jokes that there's indoor plumbing, so it's a step up from the cabin. Darryl gets instructions from Roman, and after Roman's gone, Sami asks if Darryl's a good cook. Darryl says he's not, and he's vegan. He'll do the shopping and run errands, after he has backup for her. He explains she's not to go anywhere at any time, much to Sami's chagrin. "I'm stuck here alone, with a...vegan?" Sami asks. "That's about the size of it," he tells her! Darryl wants to smoke a cigarette, but Sami is allergic and makes him go outside. Sami goes to play cards but finds photos of the children from EJ, in her jacket. She hides them once Darryl returns, but he sees them and she says EJ must have left them for her. "EJ DiMera?" he asks. He looks through her baggage for a tracking device and they hear something outside. Darryl takes out his gun and goes to inspect.

Nick and Melanie wind up at Java Café, with Nick apologizing for coming on to her at her room. Melanie doesn't think he was being presumptuous or coming on to her and she actually appreciates his friendship. They discuss their master plan and his prototype. Her dad told her about it. Nick wants to use brainpower to help her beat the murder rap.
Nearby, Chelsea continues to read about lung cancer. Evan brings her a coffee and tells her she could use a friend. She sees Nick nearby and thanks Evan, then goes to Nick. He tells her he's busy, and she backs off when she sees Melanie. She realizes they're not as close as they were, and leaves him. On her way out the door, she tells Melanie that Nick's a nice guy, who doesn't see her for the loser witch she really is. She accuses Melanie of killing her own father and Melanie lashes out at Chelsea, reminding her of hitting her little brother Zach and leaving him to die. Chelsea slaps her and tells her she has no idea what she's talking about and tells Melanie that Max deserves better than a lying, trashy, murdering... "I feel bad for you Nick," Chelsea says and runs off, crying. Nick apologizes to Melanie. He knows Chelsea's angry at him. He promises to take her home, but first goes to get her a tea. Melanie starts to cry when he leaves her at his table, and checks flights on her cell phone. She has plans to leave Salem tomorrow morning.

The shooter tells somebody that Sami has disappeared. He'll find her though and she won't get away, he says. We see Sami holding her belly in the same shot.
