At the cabin, EJ worries about Sami witnessing a murder. She brushes it off and tries to get him to leave.

Nicole and Chloe go through a baby names book at the DiMera mansion, but Chloe appears distant, so Nicole asks what's up. Chloe is worried about her, so Nicole cheers her up by telling her that EJ told her that he wanted a future with her, complete with a house and more kids. She admits to feeling insecure still, but Chloe encourages her to feel secure. Nicole finds Chloe a good friend and is happy she has forgiven her for past mistakes. Nicole thanks Chloe for her loyalty and knows she'd always be honest to her. Chloe feels guilty and steps out to make a quick call to Lucas.

Back at the cabin, the shooter takes aim as Sami tries to tell EJ to leave. Lucas receives a call from Chloe, asking permission to tell Nicole the truth about Sami's baby. Lucas doesn't think it's her secret to tell, and takes off for the DiMera mansion. Once Lucas leaves, EJ asks why she's living there. The shooter keeps trying to take aim, from outside the cabin, but Sami and EJ move around too much for him to get a shot in. Sami urges EJ to go back to Nicole and make out with her, and EJ grabs her and tells her to come clean with what's really going on. Sami say she wants to go to bed and pretend none of this happened. Suddenly EJ sees a red target in her hair, and pushes her down to the floor. "Get down," he yells.

Max arrives at Salem PD, wondering why Melanie's name is circled on their suspect list. Bo tells Max about what Stephanie said, that Melanie thinks she may have killed Trent. Bo wants to know if Max can collaborate her story.

Philip bumps into Stephanie at Java Café and he notices her crying. She confesses Max broke up with her and tells him all about how Melanie confessed she isn't sure that she didn't kill her father. She discusses the wallet with him and how Melanie planted it on her. Philip sighs and comforts Stephanie. Philip thinks Max will forgive her and quickly makes an excuse to leave.

After Melanie has a vision of Trent, accusing her of murdering him, at the pub, she cuts her date short with Nick, leaving him confused. She rushes to her room upstairs and has another vision of Trent. He again accuses her of murder and tells her she can't hide from him. "Killing someone stays with you. You've got to pay the price, Melanie," he says and Melanie cries that she doesn't remember killing him. He calls her a bad seed and she runs out of her room, yelling, "No, Dad, get out of here. I didn't do it!" She runs straight into Philip's arms. He tells her that Stephanie snitched on her, and Melanie tells him to get out. He asks her to explain why she had Trent's wallet, and when she doesn't say, he threatens the police. She denies killing Trent and tells him to get out. Philip feels guilty for hurting her feelings and knows her father abused her. Melanie mocks him and sarcastically says that this is why she's such a horrible person and why she killed her father! She rants and raves and Philip feels terrible. He apologizes for accusing her unfairly, and turns to go, but Melanie stops him. He's the only one who knows the truth about the wallet. Philip says he has to tell the truth about it, but Melanie would rather he didn't talk. She asks to buy his silence and tries to seduce him.

Max tells them that he and Stephanie broke up and that she's convinced Melanie killed Trent. Bo and Hope feel bad but they've got to do their job. Max lies that Melanie never confessed anything to him, and Stephanie walks into Roman's office and asks, "What?" She accuses him of calling her a liar, and Bo asks her to wait outside. Hope goes with her and Stephanie cries on Hope's shoulder as Stephanie rants about Melanie. Hope thinks Max is struggling with his own identity. He wants to do what's right with Melanie and his family.

Inside the office, Bo asks Max what he's doing. Max is defending his sister, he claims, but Bo tells him that he's not being noble. He has turned his back on the truth and is ruining his life. "Is that what you want?" Max reminds Bo that he did the same thing with his brother Philip! He rants that he wouldn't put up with Stephanie trying to ruin his life, but Bo says that's not what she's doing. Max swears Melanie is not guilty, but Bo reminds him that he doesn't even know Melanie. Max tells Bo that he was lucky to have been adopted. Melanie got ripped off. Bo lets him leave, and Max bumps into Hope outside the office. He asks after Stephanie and Hope says she's gone and she thinks he ought to go after her.

Nicole and Chloe toast to being best friends forever. Nicole asks her who she called, earlier, when she was upset. Chloe called Lucas to tell him where she was, and talk turns to Nicole's health. Nicole admits it's harder to deal with stress without the booze. The specter of Sami Brady hangs over her and she knows EJ is drawn to her. "She's like a fly in the baby ointment!" When Chloe doesn't laugh, Nicole asks what's up. Chloe almost tells her that Sami's pregnant, but Lucas interrupts and stops her! Nicole is upset by Lucas barging in. Lucas tells Nicole that things won't be the same as they are with EJ and Sami, when Nicole has her baby. Nicole yells that she knows this! Lucas says EJ and Sami have a passionate history and Nicole cuts him short and asks if he's trying to depress her and tell her that her baby won't be as loved as Johnny. Lucas doesn't answer, as he receives a call from Sami, who is sniffling, and tells him that somebody tried to kill her! Upset, Lucas repeats what Sami has said and tells them he has to go. Nicole and Chloe both lament that whoever tried to kill Sami didn't go through with it, and Lucas rushes to be with Sami.

Back at the cabin, EJ has pushed Sami to the floor. He tries to cover her, but she pushes him away and tries to cover her baby bump. EJ shouts that somebody is shooting at her and she panics. Later, Roman arrives with the police. The officers' cordon off the area and search for the shooter. Marlena and John arrive and Marlena comforts Sami, while John tries to figure out what happened. Since he isn't helpful, Marlena asks him to leave. Sami thinks the hit man knows she's a threat and he'll keep coming after her until he gets to her. After Roman makes a few calls, he tells Sami that he has arranged for an agent to guard her around the clock.

John arrives back at the mansion just as Chloe and Nicole are commiserating about Sami and her shenanigans. Nicole wonders where EJ is and John tells her that he's with Samantha, at the cabin. Chloe leaves, and Nicole is floored that EJ lied to her. John calls EJ a hero. He saved Sami's life. Nicole wonders what hold Sami has on him. John's not sure, but he figures EJ will want her close by, more than ever!

Nick bumps into Stephanie at the pub. She asks him if he has listened to all of Melanie's lies. He's confused and before they can talk, Max interrupts and tries to apologize to Stephanie. She's not interested in talking to him and tells him it's over. "We're done!" She leaves the pub.

Lucas and Chloe arrive at the cabin and find Sami is shaken up but fine. Roman tells Sami she is going into a witness protection program.

Max tells Stephanie, "Maybe it was an accident." Stephanie asks, "But what if it was Melanie and somebody else gets hurt because you're stopping Bo and the police from finding out the truth?"

Lucas tells Sami, "You have to do this for your children. You have to do what's right."

Philip buttons up his shirt and tells Melanie, "I just don't know how good I feel about sleeping with a killer."
