Lucas is hauled off to maximum, Ava and John get passionate, Roman agrees to help John.

Lucas and Roman prepare for Lucas's transfer to maximum security. He's in chains and an unbecoming orange jumpsuit. "Not too late to change your mind," Roman says, quietly. Lucas refuses. Chloe arrives with an apology. Lucas reminds her he makes his own decisions and they needed each other. He'll always remember it, as will Chloe. Roman takes Lucas to prison.

Caroline and a nurse prepare Steve and Kayla's apartment to welcome home Joey. The nurse sets up an apnea monitor and Maggie arrives with food and donuts from Alice. Kayla and Steve arrive with Joey and the nurse explains they need to keep this apnea monitor on all the time. Steve is shown how to use the monitor and comforts Kayla, who worries. "Everything is going to be alright." Maggie and Caroline decide to leave the new parents alone, but first, Caroline asks Kayla how she is. Kayla confesses she's a nervous wreck. Caroline thinks it's only natural, and comforts her. After the ladies leave, Steve and Kayla watch Joey sleep. Steve again comforts a worried Kayla.

Sami runs to Marlena's room and tells her Lucas is sent to maximum security. She worries he'll be hurt. Marlena is surprised, but will talk to Roman about it. Sami admits the guy who is subletting her apartment is moving out, without notice. Marlena thinks she could move back in, but Sami can't. John interrupts and explains Sami could lose custody of Johnny if she does. Sami explains the court order. She thinks EJ blackmailed the judge. John thinks she's being unreasonable. EJ wants to exercise his right to be involved in Johnny's life. John mentions that Ava Vitali needs a place. Sami is up in arms about this, so John asks Marlena to leave them alone. Marlena goes off to call Roman and Sami says she thinks Ava will be found guilty, so why sublet to her? John says if she makes it a one year lease, she'll still be covered if Ava goes to jail. John asks Sami not to have false hopes about he and Marlena getting together, and says maybe he'll let Ava live in the mansion. This pushes Sami and she decides to show Ava her place.

At the pub, Ava hunts for an apartment. Pete gives her coffee and finds out she is having issues because she's well known. She explains she can't live in the estate because it's part of the investigation. She can't buy a house because her murder trial is coming. He's sure she'll find something.

Sami meets Ava at the apartment. Ava's grateful for the favor, and they go off to view the place. Sami stares at Steve and Kayla's place, with a worried look, then shakes her head. Ava likes the place and wants to take it but Sami needs to talk to her landlord first. While Ava goes to call John, to let him know the good news, Sami goes to Steve and Kayla. Ava is happy she'll be able to cook and John asks her to make her specialty sometime. She knows he played a hand at getting her the place and asks him to come over.
Sami talks to Steve and Kayla. She tells them she's showing her place to someone and came to talk to them about it. They ask who, and Ava shows up before she can say. Steve and Kayla are shocked. Steve asks, "What the hell?" Ava didn't know they were living there, but Sami did. "I knew you weren't going to like it, but…" Sami tries to explain and apologize, but Kayla and Steve don't want to hear it. Ava tells them she's sorry, she can't rent the place. She leaves and Steve says sorry, but closes the door on Sami. Sami's left dumbstruck.

Kayla flashes back to seeing Steve in bed with Ava. Steve asks her not to get upset with this, but Kayla thinks Ava knew they lived there. She blames Ava for the cause of all their issues this year. Steve agrees, but tells her it's over. Ava's got nothing to do with them anymore. Kayla is still dealing with the fallout, she says. She rants and raves, but Steve wants to move on. She admits she can't get the picture of him in bed with Ava out of her head. It wasn't his choice. He awoke from being drugged and didn't know if they were safe. Ava would have killed them all, Steve yells. He did this to save her, yet Kayla still feels betrayed. Steve didn't remember Ava, and felt the need to protect Kayla. Kayla yells that the baby came early and almost died because he didn’t trust her with the truth. Steve can't expect forgiveness but without her and their family, his life would have meant nothing. "I'm sorry," he says, emotionally. Kayla weeps against Steve's chest.

Ava stands on the rooftop of Kayla and Steve's building. She sadly asks if John knew Steve and Kayla were living there. John didn't and calls it bad luck. He tells her not to feel sorry for herself. She's the only one in this town who understands him, so he wants her to stick around. "Maybe I will, if you allow me to move in with you," she says, grinning. He refuses her. He's still legally married to Blondie but still wants to see her - in her own space, so they can get to know each other in private. They start kissing passionately and John takes control and pushes Ava against the wall and kisses her hard…clothes come off as things get heated.

Roman arrives back at Salem PD. Marlena is waiting and asks why Lucas is going to maximum security. He did the best he could and thinks Lucas will be fine. Marlena figures she knows how to get John's memory back. She needs his help. She shows him the broken disc of John's dormant brain wave patterns and he wants to know how she got it. She can't tell him but needs him to trust her and help John. He'll do his best. She thinks Rolf can repair it and if they can offer him immunity if he can fix it, this may help. Roman's unsure if it's possible and wonders if this disc could harm or kill John. Roman wants to send the disc to ISA to see what's on it and restore it, and then they can help John. This way they don't have to give a deal to Stefano's mad scientist! He asks how Marlena's holding up and she says she's taken on more patients and keeping herself busy. She avoids the real question, so Roman presses on. She explains John likes who he is now - ruthless and dangerous. Roman thinks she has done all she can. John's a different man. He isn't sure she should be around him. He thinks it's time to let him go, but she can't. Roman wonders if she has a choice.

Sami arrives at the pub and notices Chloe. She tells her Lucas is being transported back to prison today and places blame on her. Chloe blames Sami for Lucas going back to prison and says Lucas does, too. "You better damned well deal with it!" They argue and Chloe says it was eating at Lucas to see Sami with EJ. Sami accuses Chloe of seducing him. Chloe retorts Lucas needed a friend to talk to.
