Kate's diagnosed, Marlena moves out and Chloe confronts Lucas on his whereabouts during their previous call.

Daniel tells a nurse he needs more tests for Kate, as he walks into her room. He asks Kate once more, to run through her medical history. She mentions a hernia operation, performed by Mike Horton, here at University Hospital. Daniel calls for a complete medical history. Kate demands more pain medication as Chelsea arrives and asks for news. They've nothing new to share.

Chelsea follows Daniel outside of Kate's room and tells him she trusts him. She is grateful for everything he has done for her and says she made the stupid mistake of falling in love with him and it's not his fault! Daniel's head spins as he tries to digest this. "What? You're in love with me?" Chelsea doesn't answer. She knows he needs to focus on her grandmother. She returns to Kate.

Philip finishes a call when Victor arrives at the mansion. He asks if intimidation is his new style, along with arson! Phil tells Victor he had nothing to do with the fire. Victor's worried about Phil, and then tells Phil that his mother's in the hospital. Philip is immediately concerned.

Nicole meets EJ at the pub. He has found a way to force the divorce and get a huge settlement, without going to court, only if she promises to keep quiet about his annulment. She admits she likes holding this over him, but asks him for his respect. She doesn't think Sami's right for him, so he asks who is? "Someone who actually wants you." EJ winces. "Ouch." Nicole's trying to be a friend. EJ knows but he's not interested in others, because of his feelings for Samantha. He deserves better, says Nicole, and she promises to keep his secret. She asks, "Want a pinky swear?" He's confused. "A pinky what?" She shows him how to intertwine pinky fingers and he jokes that he now feels so much better! They seal the deal with a drink and EJ goes off to see Victor.

Stephanie finds Max working behind the bar. Caroline stops her and asks after Joey. Stephanie's happy to tell her that he's doing well. Max has finished his shift and is exhausted. When Stephanie asks what happened between he and Nick, he doesn't want to discuss it and kisses her and goes off to bed. Caroline comes to Stephanie and offers a friendly ear. Kayla interrupts and Stephanie goes after Max while Caroline hugs Kayla and tells her how happy she is that Joey's going to be okay. Talk turns to Max and Kayla tells Caroline that Max is great at physics, and relays the story of how he fixed Nick's work. Caroline is amazed. "He's a genius?" They discuss how Max has been waiting for closure with Pop's death. She wonders if she should talk to him.

Marlena greets John and Ava. Surprised to see Ava there, she's even more confused to see that her portrait is gone. When she comments on it being gone, John retorts, "So were you." He asks if she's there to stay. Sami runs in and hugs Marlena, who tells everyone that Eric's got a few broken bones but is doing fine and sends his love to all. John offers drinks and Ava thanks Marlena for her previous advice. It helped. Marlena is happy for her. When John asks if she's jealous, Marlena quietly reminds him they're still married, but asks that he not expose intimate details of their lives, when he reminds her that they're not sleeping together. She thought he was committed to her but he says he tried. She's still pining for the old John and because she's not interested in the new him, he's moving on. He's getting to know Ava. Sami tells Marlena about the turf war that has blown up between John and Phil and asks her to help John before he does something disastrous. Marlena is shocked to hear about John's warehouse going up in smoke. John tells her he has a plan to fight fire with fire, but she won't like it. He tried to do things her way but it hasn't helped. He's changing tactics. "I'm doing it my way." Marlena responds, "Or is that the Vitali way?" Ava thinks John needs to stand up and fight for what's his. "It's a new beginning," John says, in response to Marlena asking if he no longer values her opinion. John tells her she's in love with somebody else. Marlena agrees. "Then I need to pack my things," she says. After she's gone, Ava wonders if John loves Marlena and thinks he should try harder. He isn't sure it would work out and likes Ava because she has no expectations of him. Ava likes herself with him. She hasn't felt good about herself in a long time! They discuss Ava being in love with Steve and John asks how she stopped being in love with him. She didn't. She felt lost, and they agree, it's probably how Marlena's feeling. John invites her to have a hot tub but she refuses and thanks him for a nice night. She tells him she's available if he needs a friend. After she leaves, John whispers…"Doc."

Marlena prepares to leave the DiMera mansion, while Sami begs her to stay, but she's sorry, she can't. She'll send for her things. She leaves.

Outside the room, Lucas gets a call from Philip. "Mom's in the hospital," he says. Lucas is sick with worry. Marlena comes out of the great room and tells them she's moving out. Sami panics and runs after her while Lucas gets the door. It's Chloe. He can't talk now. His mother's in the hospital and he's going to visit her! "You can't leave," she retorts, and asks where he was when he called, earlier. On the pier? How did he know she was crying? He grins and tells her he's clairvoyant. She's not buying it and he denies it when she asks if he was on the pier!

Stephanie goes to Max's room. He wants to be alone, but she doesn't listen. She wants to know what's going on with him. She reminds him his Pop wouldn't want him to keep secrets and yells, "Damn it Max, I need you to tell me what's the matter." Stephanie cries. She's afraid for him. He can't talk about it, so she goes to him and holds him. They profess their love for each other and kiss, passionately and make love. Afterwards, as Steph sleeps, Max apologizes that he can't tell her anything. "No one can ever know about him."

Philip and Victor arrive at the hospital and visit Kate. She's upset that they told Lucas, knowing he'd want to be there. Kate's pain worsens and Lexi and Daniel usher everyone out. Daniel has to operate to find out the issue. She admits she took a power kick to the stomach in self defense class. It knocked the wind out of her. He checks her CT Scan and says there is an abnormality. He pre-operatively diagnoses her with Omental Torsion, which is uncommon, but he can fix it with surgery.

EJ arrives to the hospital waiting room and tells Victor it's time they had a little talk, but Victor prefers to talk tomorrow. "Go away," he says. Daniel tells the family the diagnosis and that he can help! The family is thrilled. Chelsea hugs Daniel.

Ava arrives at the pub to meet Nicole. She tells her that John's intense, yet playful. She asks about EJ. Nicole tells Ava that EJ's too caught up with Sami. Nicole asks if she kissed John. She did. She saw the bedroom, but didn't experience it! They giggle and Ava tells Nicole that Marlena showed up and after a heart to heart with John, she moved out! Nicole and Ava drink to Nic's divorce.

Daniel tells Kate, "I'm gonna get something to help relax you." Kate says, "No. I'm not going to let you do the surgery!"

Steve asks what's up with Max and Kayla says, "It's like he's living a double life. He's angry and has alienated his friends."

Victor assures EJ, "If you think you can blackmail me into settling, you're dead wrong."
