Sami gets a surprise call and John's candor hurts Marlena.
At the apartment, Sami and EJ pack for the safe house. Sami wants the twins to see a doctor before they leave but EJ puts the kibosh on that. Sami angrily sets ground rules. EJ's not to be anywhere near her unless the twins are around. She wants to avoid anything uncomfortable.
In his cell, Lucas increasingly becomes annoyed with being held with Stefano. Stefano suggests bail to Lucas and Lucas says it's being worked on. He wonders why Stefano's not out on bail. Stefano says lawyers are a funny breed and offers Lucas his lawyers to help bail him out. Lucas says it seems manipulative to him but Stefano calls it a simple proposition. Stefano says they'll discuss it later as he leaves to talk with lawyers. After Stefano is gone, Lucas searches his belongings and finds a cell phone!
Back at Sami's apartment, EJ cares for the babies while Sami takes a surprise call from Lucas, who calls from Stefano's cell phone and asks why she hasn't returned his lawyer's calls. She says she's busy handling her own problems. Lucas sees he made a mistake and asks how Ali is. Sami tells him she's fine and he wants her to bring Ali over. She can't, she explains because she's going to a safe house. Lucas is upset to hear this but Sami promises Roman will give him all the information he can. Lucas doesn't think Stefano can hurt them since he's locked up with him and they argue. When Lucas hears EJ's voice, he becomes sarcastic. "Is that your loving husband?" When they hang up, Sami tells a surprised EJ that Lucas is bunking with Stefano. EJ reminds her that it's probably the safest place for Lucas, considering Stefano never gets his hands dirty. Sami hopes he's right.
In his cell, Lucas returns Stefano's cell phone to his hiding spot before Stefano arrives and they continue to discuss getting Lucas out. Stefano says he needs help getting Johnny away from his parents! He stresses that this will mean Johnny's away from EJ. Lucas goes for exercise while Stefano takes his cell phone and ponders if Lucas made any calls. He calls Sami's number. Sami answers, "Lucas, you have to stop calling me. Who knows what that SOB has done to the phone?" Stefano laughs and hopes she's not talking about him. She hangs up and throws the phone when EJ walks in. He tells her it'll be alright.
At the hospital, Belle wakes up confused about the state of events. Philip assures her that John is alive but they've not yet found Claire. She begins to cry and relays a nightmare she had about Claire screaming for her. Philip is sure Claire will be back soon and urges her to rest. He lets her know Shawn's out looking for Claire. Philip gets her some water for a coughing fit and asks if he can hang around while she rests. Belle feels bad and tells him she's thankful for him saving her life. This isn't the way he planned things for them but Belle reminds him there's no 'them'. There's also no 'Belle and Shawn'. She starts to weep and worries about Claire. Philip stays with her while she rests and when she opens her eyes, she tells him it's nice that he's always the one she sees when she opens her eyes.
At an unknown location, Crystal comforts a crying Claire and hums to her to get her to fall asleep.
At the hospital, Hope tells Marlena that Bo is looking into leads on finding Claire. Marlena's on edge but she explains that since she knows how the mind works and has been tortured by Stefano and held hostage, she can forgive John of anything. She realizes it's going to take a while to get John back but refuses to stop fighting.
Meanwhile, inside John's room, he dreams about his torture and calls out to Marlena. "Doc." Marlena comes into the room and John tells her he had a dream about her but isn't sure what it was about. He blames the drugs and Marlena promises to find out if they can lower the dosage. John falls asleep and dreams again of being held by Stefano. In his thoughts, Stefano asks John if he has any memories, and explains that they're extracting cognitive thought, relationships, emotions… "You are going to be a clean slate, my friend," Stefano tells John. The screen in front of them shows 'Deleted' again. Once Stefano feels John is ready, he tells John that if he had a headache, he wouldn't be able to recognize it. Stefano tells John he cannot think or forgive him and holds a disc with John's entire life on it. "Incredible," boasts Stefano. John wakes up startled and yells, "Don't take it! Don't take it!"
Outside John's room, Marlena tells Hope that John had a dream about her, though she's not sure she believes him. Marlena and Hope go into the room and John tells them he's trying to remember but the drugs are messing up his memory. He yells for Dr. Carrington to listen to Marlena. While Marlena and Dr. Carrington go out into the hall, Hope asks John what he's thinking about. He tells her he doesn't like or trust her! Marlena asks to lower his medication in the hopes that it'll help him remember his dreams. Roman arrives and tells her that Abe thinks she lacks objectivity. He believes there is a conflict and they've decided that Dr. Carrington is the only one who will be permitted to treat John. Marlena is angry. They go back into John's room and ask Hope if John's asleep. Hope murmurs that John's probably thinking of a way to strangle her! John tells them he's sedated, not absent. Marlena tells him the Doc refuses to lower his medications and asks everyone to leave the room. John turns his head away from her as she apologizes. He doesn't believe her. She promises she'll love him and fight for him no matter what. She asks why he has his head turned. John tells her she can let go of his hand now. She can't stop the flow of drugs so she's no use to him. Marlena doesn't think he believes this but she takes her coat and leaves. Later, Marlena realizes to Roman and Hope that John's not himself at all. She watches Dr. Carrington up the dosage for John's medication and to herself, she says she may have to take matters into her own hands!

Carmen tells Chelsea that the creep Ford is dead. "What other story is there to tell?" Chelsea says, "The truth! I'm thinking that's what we should do."
Marlena asks, "Was this a mission that Stefano gave?" John has a fit when he hears Stefano's name.
Hope says, "I'm just really worried about Claire. Which is why I think it's time I got back in the game."
