Where's Marlena when we need her? (Soaps.com)
These are the "DAYS" of my week from November 23-25:

This was a short week due to the Thanksgiving holiday. I'm not sure there was a real theme to the week. There certainly wasn't much of a holiday which might have let some down. I think they made up for it with the extended scene in Maggie's kitchen. The thought that kept going through my head this week while thinking of the show is that we truly could use Marlena just about now!

What makes a good mother?
We realize that the mothers are written for a purpose but it’s still very complicated!

Nicole was obviously not being a good mother by stealing Sydney from her rightful parents, but when she had Sydney, she was a great mother. Sydney was well taken care of. Though Mary has a hand in things and I suppose EJ was around Sydney once in a while, Nicole was super attentive. Nicole would only get a sitter when she was trying to hide her secret. Hmm. When Nicole took Sydney out of the DiMera residence, I wasn’t upset about it. Sydney thinks of her as mum and Nicole merely wanted to get Syd away from Sami, EJ and Stefano’s yelling. If they weren’t yelling, she may never have taken the child. Who is to know?

Sami hasn’t been a good mother in the past, as we all know, but we’ll leave the past where it belongs. In the past! As a parent these days she has made headway with Will, but they still have major issues because of Sami’s issues in her romantic life. Her other two kids aren’t around her very much. They’re with their fathers or grandmother but they can’t be in each scene like Syd can. Let me digress. Syd isn’t in all those scenes you may think. We see a lot of fancy camera work and empty carriages! At any rate, the twins are with grandma and that’s important too, but it makes Sami’s parenting look shabby, as though she’s pawning her kids off, but that’s not what it’s really like! We must remember Grace and how attentive and loving she was with her. Then again, she hid her from her father… See? It’s complicated!

We can’t really compare, can we, if we look at all aspects of the two mums. In the weekly poll, already I can see that 80% of people find Sami the better mother, which I completely understand but given what I’ve mentioned above, I can’t say Nicole’s a terrible mother. Damned good acting on Arianne’s part for making me feel bad for Nicole!

Brady:
I’ve had people tell me that Brady is a loser for loving Nicole. I don’t think people actually take the time to think before they speak or write. I disagree with them. Brady’s no loser and loving somebody does not make one a loser. Though he probably shouldn’t have taken her at face value, he didn’t realize she was lying when he bailed her out of jail. After all, you have to keep in mind that Brady was the one person that Nicole trusted enough to tell most of the truth to! He already knew most of her secrets so why would he think there were more? He confronted her and told her they’re no longer friends, which was what she needed to hear and then admitted to Arianna that though he’s still in love with Nicole, part of him hates her. His heart and his head are conflicted. Who knows what journey that’ll take him on?

He’s not going to find a friend at the bottom of a bottle!
Whether or not you like EJ, you have to agree that he needs a friend. He seems to use booze quite often when he's upset, and that accompanied with strangling his father isn't really going to help him. Everyone needs somebody to bounce their problems off of and since he’s no longer talking to Stefano, who does he have? Perhaps Sami? I feel for him. He’s worse off than Tony was because he has nobody at all. Arianna left Brady high and dry after learning he’s still in love with Nicole, and EJ is free of his own wife, who just happens to be the same woman. Does this mean EJ and Ari will commiserate together? I can feel the Ejami and Ecole’s glaring at me for even suggesting this! *hides*

I almost lost my lunch.

Will came to make amends at the gravesite with Mia, who told him she lost her reputation, self-respect, and most of all, him. Who wrote that dialogue, Stephenie Meyer? Mia’s loss of self-respect is the most important thing, not losing Will. I almost lost my lunch listening to that poor child. She needs love, love, love. Maggie was such a dear to help get Mia out of her head. While I may talk about Maggie being a busybody, she also cares deeply and empathizes with all. This was a fantastic Thanksgiving scene and probably my favorite of the week other than Victor and Vivian’s chat at Java!
What to make of Carly…

What a bad place to hide the stash! (Soaps.com)
Soon she’ll be falling for Bo. I can see it now, but I don’t think it’s her fault. She’s the damsel in distress so one could argue that the old Florence Nightingale Effect is on the way, but these two have had a history, so perhaps old feelings will resurface, which wouldn’t make it a FNE. It’s not like they broke up on a bad note, years ago. Bo’s heart still belonged to Hope. Course, it still does, even now, so I’m not thinking of this as a triangle just yet. I won’t do that until I see that Bo is interested in Dr. Manning-Alamain. Did you love that Hope was so blatantly obvious snooping through Carly’s handbag? The gall! I couldn’t help but laugh aloud during that scene!

Abrasive Chad:
He can be such a nasty character at times because he’s so angry and hurt right now over Mia’s lies and omissions. Sometimes I dislike him and then remember he’s hurting and he shows how much he cares for the daughter he didn’t know, I like him and feel for him. That’s pretty good acting considering he has only been with the show a short time. It’s similar to how I feel for Nicole.

Two peas…Four peas in a pod...
Kate and Stefano seem to really be good friends within their sham of a marriage. They’re fantastic together and really do understand one another, considering they both do whatever they can to make their kids lives miserable happy. *wink*

Victor and Vivian are great frenemies. Victor even asked Vivian, a fellow conspirator, for advice on how to deal with Bo. She suggested he look to Kate for answers but his ex-co-conspirator is mixed up with Stefano DiMera, so that’s out. Still, these two are as much fun as Kate and Stefano and I’d love to see them double date!

Some friend...
Hope asked her very good friend, Mayor Abe, for another job and he told her that they’re not hiring until she moves out of Victor’s place. What gives him that right?! Shouldn’t Hope get a job based on her work ethic and what she can bring to the table? I wasn’t impressed by dear, perfect Abe.

Hope’s first meeting with Vivian was interesting. For a split moment I wondered if Hope and Vivi would work together to get rid of Carly but then I remembered Vivi wants to do away with Carly and Hope just wants her man. Hope’s also a cop…or was. I’m confused! After seeing her rifling through Carly’s things, I’m not sure if Hope’s still a ‘goodie goodie’!

Jealousy rears its ugly head!
Melanie doesn’t like that Stephanie is close to Nathan, but does she have cause to be jealous? Nathan seems to like Stephanie as a friend, but I haven’t seen any other spark in his eyes where she’s concerned. Stephanie’s showing a different side to her which is making people dislike her for a reason instead of merely wondering why she’s on screen. That’s a good thing!

Gabi has read "Twilight" so she knows "grown up stuff," now. Oy.
Yeah that was pretty funny. Never quote "Twilight" if you want somebody to take you seriously, dear. So far, Gabi does nothing for me. She appears to have been hurt by Ari’s drug dealing in the past and wants everyone to know how ‘mature’ she is, which is sad in itself. The one thing we can see off the bat is that she’s kind. Giving Nicole money and trying to reject Nicole’s delishush diamond tennis bracelet (can you see me drooling?) was a pure act of decency. My issue with the storyline between her and her siblings is that she found Ari’s stash way too soon for me. I thought that this storyline would last a little longer but perhaps there’s more to it. While I’m not sure how long Gabi will be a part of the show, I assume she’ll be involved with Mia, Will, Chad and Kinsey. Maybe she’ll give Mia some competition.

That’s all I’ve got to say about the show this week. I’m interested in reading about what you thought of the show and would like to wish you all a great holiday! Happy Thanksgiving to all of my American friends. Us Canadians already celebrated our Thanksgiving and had a wonderful time. I wish the same for all of you and in honour of the holiday, here’s a DOOL Thanksgiving Poll to vote on while you’re waiting for the turkey or tofurkey to cook.

I agree. We DO need Marlena right now. And John too. John was pretty good at finding missing people. The two of them could take over the "hero" spot and let Rafe and Brady deal with their love lives. LOL

Nicole did take very good care of Sydney, and could love her more if she were her own. What she did, however, was not right. She hurt and used way too many people.

She was married to EJ. If she had befriended Sami instead of being so nasty to her, she could have become Sydney's stepmother and spent quite a bit of time with her. She does not realize that the care and support of her friends would have brought her great comfort in her loss.

I really think EJ would have married her anyway.

Oh well. Coulda woulda shoulda.

Love it when Rafe shows some emotion.

Looks like Hope is beginning to rise to the occassion. I predict a Bope reunion by Christmas.

I think Sami would be a better mother and spend more time with her kids if she were not being jerked around by two ex-husbands all the time.

It's pretty hard to juggle 4 kids, 2 ex-husbands, and a boyfriend and still live up to the standards of "perfect mother". They can't even make it seem that way onscreen. LOL

I believe the theme of the show in general is that parents are not always perfect people who know everything and never make mistakes; but that doesn't mean they don't love their kids.

I disagree Nicole is not a good mother! There’s more to being a mother then caring for your baby. Nicole has no values all she knows how to do is lie, scheme, manipulate, and use people; this is what she will teach her children. She didn’t take Sydney because of all the arguing, she did it because she is a selfish woman and thinks only of herself! Really EJ and she is a match made in hell! They are two of a kind.

I enjoy SAFE they are always hugging, touching each other, kissing, playing with each other hair, they are so much in love, I wish they would have saved stealing Sydney until Nicole came back from her maternity leave, and let the Brady-Hernandez families have a happy holidays! I did enjoy the welcome home Sydney day, Sami kids love Rafe and its nice the kids have stability in their lives. Sami needs to get a backbone where it comes to EJ, I know she thinks if she jumps every time he calls and does what he asks, they will get along and won’t fight over the kids, but EJ doesn’t work like that. He will manipulate her until she puts a STOP to it!

I hope Victor and Vivian bring some spice to the show, going against Kate!

I don’t feel sorry for Brady, he knows Nicole’s background, all her schemes, and you can’t believe a word she says. I would hope that he would have asked the SPD why she was in jail, and not take Nicole’s word!

Stay SAFE!!!

Everyone have a blessed and Happy Thanksgiving!

Well I was thinking about the Ari situation with Gabi. You would think Ari had more sense on where to stash the stuff. I know she had to do it quickly when Gabi came in but after Gabi left, she didn't move it and when she left, why not lock the door! wow
When Brady was pretty much telling Nicole where to go, she had said why didn't I choose a life with you instead? I wonder if Nicole loves Brady or is it just Brady in to her. Her value system is out of whack despite taking good care of Sydney and being a good actress. She should have owned up to losing the baby. Who would think to do a baby switch??? Nicole! Kate does awful things, I guess there are those that are awful. I wonder if her and EJ would have had a real chance if she would have cried on his shoulder after losing their baby. I bet EJ would have still gone for Nicole.Coulda woulda shoulda lol
It's still weird to me that we are suppose to be in love with Sami too. She has done some hideous things. Can't recall them at the moment but weren't her and Lucas suppose to be, meant to be. It's just weird how fast she falls for a new man. Don't get me wrong Rafe is fine! But I don't know how Will grew up and is now descent.
ok that's all for now. Happy Turkey Day all!

EJ better get a handle on his drinking before it leads too more abuse like drugs being his next best friend. I wish there was an easy answer to the dillemna that EJ and Sami are confronted with. All of them love Sydney EJ, Stefano, Nicole and Sami. I hate to see Sami getting sole custody of Sydney she has no job and trying to raise 4 children alone is not easy. On the other hand Rafe deserves too be with a woman that does not have so much baggage. A EJ and Sami reunion is not the answer either. I would like for EJ to remain marry to Nicole and the 3 of them will be able to give Sydney all the love she deserves.
