Wardrobe malfunction? (Soaps.com)
These are the "Days” of my week for July 20-24:
This week had a really slow and boring build up before giving us a great cliffhanger. When the show is slow like this, I start pining for past characters and reminisce about the good old ‘Days’. I’ll start missing Jack and Jennifer, Julie and Doug, John, Marlena, Chelsea, Steve, Kayla, Anna and Tony. I wished they’d done a Brady Fourth of July party. I’ve been thinking a lot about the newbies on the show and notice the characters start out promising but then seem to fall flat. I’ve been having major issues enjoying the characters, Arianna, Rafe and sometimes Chloe. Arianna came to us as mysterious, intriguing, protective, and annoying and way over the top. That’s a character that holds great potential but the writers haven’t given us much interest in finding out more about her past. Same goes for Rafe, who was fantastic as an FBI agent at the safe house. Now? I hardly recognize him. Where is his edge? What’s that old cliché? Nice guys finish last and we’ve seen it with Lucas and Roman. Lucas was fun when he was a schemer, but now he’s a bloody wimp and a bore. I miss Lucas scheming with Sami. Chloe returned to the show "edgy,” but wound up a wounded pup, boring us senseless. What happened to our spunky Ghoul Girl? I’m enjoying the new guys, Chad and Nathan, but would like to see them more, to get to know their histories more, instead of watching Sami cry and Nicole go insane.
Chia/Wia:
Chad has been busy marking his territory around Mia this week as Will has chosen the high road and decided not to delve into Mia’s privacy, finally got a last name, now, McKormick, and she’s writing a journal, which could be explosive if read by just about anyone except Nicole. Could there still be lingering feelings for Chad? We know she cares for Will and if done properly (not like Ejami vs Ejole) it could be an interesting triangle. It’s got to be organic. Think Jennifer/Jack and Frankie.
The Energetic Bunny!
The highlight of the show passed her examination without cheating and reminded us that she has a photographic memory, so I wondered why she’d consider cheating at all. She obviously has the hots for Nathan, but we know there’s still a part of her that wants Philly. Could the cabin kiss come back to haunt Philly? Can Melanie catch a break with a guy? How many times does this girl have to get stomped on before she gets a little lovin’?
Stephilip:
Can somebody tell me what exactly Stephanie’s job is? Is she a Hospital Administrator or in Public Relations like Carrie once was? I feel as though I missed that, but either fits.
She and the good doctor, Nathan, bonded this week, but I see no sparks. Maybe there isn’t supposed to be. They’re very similar, which could have the potential to be a fantastic love story or a bore or maybe they’ll just become greatest friends. It’s obvious she’s still in love with Philly, but to keep waffling like this is truly killing any feeling I have for this couple. I’d much rather see her taking the time to pine over him. You know, talking about him with a friend, flashing back to good times, picking up the phone, but hanging it up just before it rings… that would make me feel for her and might make me want them together. I dug Friday’s scene where Stephanie and Melanie went at it, and gather this was done to cement her friendship with Melanie, but something seems worrisome. Will she find out Melanie and Philly made out like mad?
Sami and Rafe:
This week, Sami cried and romanced Rafe and went poking around in his past, after she promised not to! (There's my girl!) Stefano poked around in Rafe’s past and we learned that Rafe graduated top of his class at the FBI academy, making me wonder why he isn’t using his talent working in a similar field instead of in construction. It’s a little far-fetched that
Sami’s secret spot (sounds naughty to me) is the same one as Rafe and Emily. Small town? Safe is pretty romantic. They spend more time making out than anything, which normally I’d be happy to see, because this show could use a shot of romance, but nothing these two do excites me. I really hate that! I’m trying to see what others see and I do think Roman’s right. He’s really good for Sami, but I feel there is unfinished business with EJ. I guess Dena Higley’s blog post (Where she says Ejami is endgame.) is niggling at me. We met Meredith this week, who I am not interested in, remotely. I’d have to care about Rafe and Arianna to go there. Sami was very sweet with her at first but then practically begged her to discuss Emily’s death. How insensitive, especially coming from somebody who has just lost a kid. Then, what does Sami do? She goes full on Sami-style and calls in the big guns! Roman agreed, no questions asked, mind you, to find out more about Meredith Hudson. Roman? Is he possessed? He’d never agree to this, at least without a lecture. Don't worry. He'll only find a little information out before he starts asking questions, but at what cost for Sami? Looks like Rafe will find out she's digging into his business! Maybe if he'd tell her the truth?

Bradianna:
My feelings have drastically changed over the last few weeks about Bradianna. Originally, I wanted Brady with anyone, because I like seeing him on screen. I no longer think of him as Ethan from Passions, but now, I’m tired of Brady and Arianna’s dance. It’s way too repetitious and though the writers started out writing Arianna with an edge, they’re now writing her the same as they do Brady. Notice that? With him, she’s quiet as he is but with Rafe, she’s lashing out at Sami. I’d like to see her edgy all the time but they’ve melded her into this low-key, laid back gal, like Brady and when they’re together, it seems like they’re sleepwalking through life. Not a captivating moment to be held with these two this week except for the kiss. Brady has been sober for a year, and this is a soap, so get on with it already. Let’s have them admit they like each other, she can have her secret and they can date loads at Chez Rouge. I miss Chez Rouge. I hope Arianna’s hiding something good and not what I think it is - a recovering addict who caused Emily’s accident. Then again, maybe she's got a secret that has nothing to do with Rafe? Addendum: As I reported yesterday,
Lindsay Hartley is coming to DOOL. Sadly, the current Arianna, Felisha Terrell has been let go and they will replace her with Lindsay. You may remember her as Theresa, from
Passions. Theresa and Ethan had a 7 year'thing' for one another and in the season finale, finally
married, so it appears as though the show wants to see if they can recreate the passion over here. We'll be seeing her in a few weeks.
Nicole and EJ:
Is there really anything to discuss with these two without me being repetitive? This week, EJ and Nicole argued, EJ was a hypocrite and I constantly ask myself what happened to the dynamic couple they started out as. I adore Stefano. I’ve always loved Stefano but does he have to be so bloody tame? EJ is no longer likeable to me, which is heartbreaking, truly, considering I have found him one of the most captivating characters – and actors on the show. Nicole too has lost her passion and I find myself fine without seeing either of them on screen.
Addendum: I watched Monday's show and there's a big turn around. Let's hope it lasts!! EJ's back in my good graces and he has to be in order for us to care when he finds out the truth!!
Murderess:
Kate’s rocking her new hairstyle. That’s the only good thing about her these days is how she looks. Lauren’s acting is spot on. I almost fell over laughing Friday when she said, "I don’t understand why anyone could be so malicious, so evil.” She even wondered if Chloe wasn’t the target. She’s good. You have to give her that! Though Daniel has taken the fall for this psycho, at least he knows she set him up. We can only hope he’ll be able to prove it somehow. But how? Unless Chloe wakes up, I am not sure how it’ll be possible. (And, I don’t think poor Chloe’s waking up for a good long time.) Bo and Hope thankfully don’t believe Daniel did it but the evidence keeps piling up!
A few thoughts:
Last I heard, Victor came to Stefano, to extend an olive branch, but I don’t recall any discussion of ending the blood feud after that.
We never hear about Stefano’s diabetes anymore.
Roman’s rocking his new hair colour. If I’m not mistaken, it appears lighter.
To wrap things up, this week wasn’t one of my favourite weeks but Friday’s excitement is sure to boil over into next week. This weekend is Carabana in Toronto, so that’s where I’m headed. Hope you all have a great weekend and if I don’t see you on Facebook or
Twitter @ soapoperafan, I’ll see you back here, next week!
