Let's find out who put themselves up for a nomination! Peter Reckell (Bo) and Thaao Penghlis (Tony) were both pre-nominated for the lead actor category, while Lauren Koslow (Kate) and Renee Jones (Lexi ), were pre-nominated for lead actress. Supporting actor and actress pre-nominees go to Jay Johnson (Philip) and Stephen Nichols (Steve), Arianne Zucker (Nicole) and Tamara Braun (Ava). The younger actor and actress pre-nominations went to Blake Berris (Nick) and Darin Brooks (Max), Molly Burnett (Melanie) and Rachel Melvin (Chelsea).
Shall we revisit 2008 to find out what the characters got up to, causing these actors to get a salute for their work?
This year, Bo mourned for Shawn Sr.’s death, when he passed on due to lack of oxygen after Ava Vitali had thugs sabotage the Brady plane. On the heels of that, Bo went through a pancreatic transplant storyline.
Tony provided a much needed comedic edge to the show, with Anna at his side. He also showed he was a good DiMera during arguments with Stefano about his wrong doings – this after Stefano came out of his debilitating state and poured hallucinogenic vapors into the hospital vents!
Kate made a mistake and slept with her granddaughter’s (Chelsea) ex-beau and went through a lung cancer storyline, showing soap fans in an unobtrusive way that even those who have never smoked a day in their life can get lung cancer.
Granddaughter Chelsea went under the knife for Bo, saving his life by giving of herself, and after dating and being dumped by Daniel, Chelsea learned that grandma Kate slept with her ex-beau! She spent most of the year trying to find forgiveness, while dealing with Kate’s cancer.
Lexi was thrown a curve ball when her son Theo was diagnosed with Autism. When Abe quit as police commish and ran for mayor, she learned to cope with their personal lives being open to the public and decided to step down as hospital Chief of Staff.
Philip was shot by Ava’s goon, Eddie, trying to protect Morgan Hollingsworth. Later, his business dealings with Morgan’s father, caused a rift between the two, and they separated. Licking his wounds, he had a fling with Chloe, and spent the year going through an emotional time, dealing with mother Kate’s cancer.

Nicole returned to Salem and we found out she was married to Trent Robbins, some time ago, making her marriage to Victor invalid. Trent threatened to go to Victor with the news, but the truth comes out, anyway! She had EJ help her with her divorce to Victor, Nicole and EJ shared an attraction, and after sex in an elevator, Nicole conceived a child, lost it and decided to provide herself with another. She got involved with Dr. Baker, the baby broker.
Speaking of Ava, Ava came to town searching for her ex-fiancé; she was drugged up and psychotic and was kept her in a state of nuttiness over the years by her father and psychiatrist. Her day to day life included being locked up in her room, sabotaging a plane, kidnapping and finally getting off the drugs to show she was actually quite sane! After dating John, she didn’t want to risk going to jail for her misdeeds, so left Salem and hasn’t been seen since.
Nick had an interesting year. He went from nerd to stalker, and obsessed over Melanie Layton, the entire year, while working as a professor at Salem U, where he created the alternative fuel project, with Trent Robbins! He went to jail for killing Trent, amongst other misdeeds.
Max had a difficult year all around. His dad died (Shawn Sr.), he and Stephanie had loads of issues in their relationship, he met his long lost biological father and sister and broke up with Stephanie, in the process. His biological dad, Trent Robbins, who he hated, was shortly murdered by his best friend, Nick, though Max was a suspect for the longest time!
Bad girl party blogger, Melanie, was found in Europe by Max and Steph. Melanie was used and abused by her father Trent. She was shocked to learn she had a brother in Max, and the two forged a relationship, though Melanie didn’t get along with anyone else in Salem.
