This was a short week for DOOL, and was very balanced with humour, melancholy and excitement. Overall, I enjoyed the week but still find myself missing Jarlena. It’s a grieving process that’ll take time to get over!
Poor Bradianna. First, let me say that this week, Lindsay Hartley as Arianna has won me over. Holy chemistry! She’s vivacious and I can now see how much she really cares for Brady. I felt so sorry for both of them when she broke it off with poor confused Brady, who didn’t know what to say or do with the unexpected dumping. Victor, who is normally smarter, kind of goofed, I thought, when he told Ari that he wasn’t interested in getting involved or having her arrested for dealing in drugs. I mean, she’s already wondering what his problem is, but now she’s got to wonder why he didn’t turn her in! How exciting! And more so that he thinks she’s a drug dealer but now we all know different, after seeing her scene with Roman. I’m so thrilled Roman’s getting his own storyline and I think Ari has a less than perfect past but that she’s trying to go straight or helping Roman in order to avoid jail. Thoughts?
My only beef? Melanie telling Brady that if Ari claimed not to be in love with Brady that she was lying. They’ve only been on a few dates and most haven’t gone well! They had sex, but none of that shows me love. I will chalk it up to what happens in Salem off screen… when we sleep!
Bope heading for a breakup still seems too far-fetched to me. Differing opinions aside, Ciara’s fine. Maybe I’m not putting myself in Hope’s shoes enough. Not that I’m siding with Bo, if it were up to me, neither of them would have been on the case. Bo did go rogue and that’s great if you’re a cop, but not a father or husband. Still, it got the job done. Ciara’s fine and though I understand Hope didn’t like the way he took charge, I still can’t side with her. Anyway, Ciara remembered the sound of a Zippo lighter clicking open and closed from her time in captivity and told mummy, "That’s him!" (That Dean was the third kidnapper.) Did you hold your breath waiting for Hope to respond? Dean saw the look of dawning on her face and acted fast. When Justin came to the door to check on Hope, (There’s something just not right to me there.) he realized by her lie about how she loves to cook and has something on the stove, that something was up. I thought that was a really nice touch but made me laugh out loud, and I’m not sure I should have been laughing during a hostage situation. I’m just glad the whole sordid mess is over. Now we have to deal with the aftermath, because knowing Hope, she’ll be angrier than ever that Dean wasn’t caught sooner. Friday’s show ended the kidnapping storyline thank goodness and again, made me laugh! When Justin got shot and Dean got up, Hope wanted to find out if Justin was alright. Dean kicked Justin’s foot hard and said, "Doesn’t seem like it." (I laughed my arse off!) He then accused Hope of killing him, Brenda and the other guy, whatshisface. When Bo saved the day, I thought it might count for something, until Dean’s mouth started flapping again and he accused Bo of the deaths of Dean’s gal pal and her brother. I saw Bope’s eyes meet and it was very telling.
Victor:
I don’t get how Victor can be so caring and understanding with Bo and his issues with Hope and the kidnapping and act so callous with everyone else. He’s intriguing. Friday too, he and Philly had a heart to heart and he droned on about how much family meant to him, so Philly moved back into the manse. What is Victor up to now!?

Samanther/EJ:
It was good to see Sami calling on her dad, Roman, since she has no friends and Caroline’s MIA. Sami admitted she loved Rafe still. Obviously. I mean did anyone ever doubt that? It’s been a week since the break-up! The scene with EJ in the park was well done, and I think Samanther did put herself in his shoes. There’s nothing she can do to change the past and Elvis will take time to get over the pain of it all and grief. I thought it was ridiculous that Sami would question him about Nicole’s hatred for Rafe and even sillier that EJ would carry her words back home to Nicole. I still say EJ doesn’t really have much of a reason to be on to Nicole for anything. He’s always working and she has explained away any issues he may have had with her in the past few months quite brilliantly. Why would he care if she doesn’t like Rafe when he can’t stand the man, himself. Wouldn’t he assume that her feelings for Rafe mirror his own?! I assume we’re to keep in mind he’s a DiMera and because they’re not trustworthy, he can’t trust anybody else. If that were my husband… see ya! But of course, Nicole deserves his lack of trust so I digress. Look for him to call off the honeymoon to Paris and for Nicole to consider moving there! Anything to get away from all those lies piling up!
Melanie made me so sad this week. She got it from Stephanie, and Philly and wound-up-tight Nathan. I’m torn with how I feel about what she did to Stephanie. They were friends and Mel had no business having sex with a friend’s ex, but I still can't get too broken up for Steph because I haven’t liked her with Philly for a while and because I’m mostly indifferent towards her these days. What about Nathan? Is he upset with Melanie because…
a) She betrayed a friend?
b) She got it on with Philly and he likes her.
c) She didn’t sneak into his bedroom across the hall, instead?
Mia:
Will read her diary, but in his defense, he was trying to wipe up a spill next to her computer and his eyes kind of wandered. Maybe if she wanted to keep it so private, she shouldn’t write in public? At any rate, he broke up with her after realizing she’s got a special bond with Chad and she refused to tell him what that bond was. I’m not sure how to take this. A big part of me is leaning towards her getting back together with Chad, when I’m probably "supposed to be" rooting for Will, but that could change. I can understand why he’d dump her. He’s had enough lies to last him a lifetime. Good for him for doing the right thing, but you know the truth will come out soon and it’s likely he’ll be fine with it.
To wind things up, the humour in the kidnapping storyline is something I will miss but the storyline itself needed to end. The week was strangely fun to watch, even though there were many issues that I chose not to focus on! Friday’s show was absolutely amazing and funny to me probably when it shouldn’t have been but I’m not complaining! Nicole and Rafe are so much fun together, sparring and all in all, the week was a good one and I look forward to the next, issues and all. How about yourself? I'd love to hear from you, whether you agree or disagree and am interested in your thoughts more than you know! If you'd like to have a few laughs, feel free to read Matt's Musings over on our sister site, Soap Opera Fan. He has a different take than me this week and is spot on, in my eyes, with loads of laughs! Enjoy!
Have a great weekend, everyone. If you’re in Toronto, be sure to check out a few films at the Toronto Film Festival and wander around Yorkville where you’ll catch a glance of a few celebrities making the rounds. Though I have yet to see one, my friends have spotted a few!
