Don't leave Rachel....please stay

Posted by passionsfan2582 at Thursday, February 12 2009 07:04 PM

Guys if any of you are interested heres the interview that Ken Corday did...I am so mad with him and this show right now...I can't believe Rachel had to make the decision to quit...she was practically forced to choose be fired or quit!!! I can't believe that she had to do this yet it appears that people like chloe, kate and melanie are safe...Ken Cordays says they are done with the firing...this is just ludicrous!!! ken Corday saying the door remains open for her to return and the character will not be recast is not concrete...that gives me NO assurance that she will be back just like the rest of these actor's that have been fired. Rachel had a wonderful storyline with Bo's illness and her budding romance with Daniel until days royally screwed that up now, instead we are forced to watch more porn from daniel/chloe who make NO sense whatsoever and kate after she horribly portrayed a cancer patient and melanie who is only 18 who we don't even know if she has graduated high school because they have made no mention of it and chloe, who doesn't know what she wants, this crap between her and daniel needs to end because its sorry storylines like that-that is wasting air time for the rest of these people!!!

This week's SOD features an interview with Ken Corday about the recent firings.

- Corday says about Stephen Nichols and Mary Beth Evans: "They're not leaving Salem. They're not dying. They're just not going to be on the air. You might see one or both of them pop up on other episodes, but it's not going to be a significant exit."

- Corday explains that "there is only so much airtime". He says that if the show were "cash richer", they would have kept Nichols and Evans, but "if you keep people with that much history, regardless of how much they make, they should be in story." Corday explains that because of the financial restrictions on the show, only so many people can have story, so he had "some hard choices to make".

- Nichols and Evans have already taped their last shows.

- Thaao Penghlis was out of the country doing mission work when he found out that Tony would be written out. "I've spent over 20 years on that show, and a producer from Passions came in with a vision, and all I can say is I'm in good company," he says.

- Penghlis will be in a big story before he leaves. His last tape date is March 4th.

- Corday was asked about whether the age of those fired played a role. Corday says no. "Maggie has more story, Caroline has more story, Stefano and Victor have more story, so it's not an ageist thing." He says it's not true that the "old guard" is leaving Days; he says Bo and Hope aren't going anywhere and that they have a story and "that will continue". He acknowledges the show is losing "two huge couples", but "in their place, you'll be seeing appearances by other veteran cast members."

- Rachel Melvin has given her notice and will be leaving when her contract expires this spring. Corday says, "I called her and I applauded her move." He told her it hurts to lose her and that the character will not be recast; the door remains open for her return. He also told her that "it's time for you to spread your wings, and I want to see you in feature films and big television". Corday says he's sad to lose her because they had a "warm and fuzzy" storyline with Max and Chelsea, but Darin Brooks is staying and they will find Max another love interest.

- Corday was asked about the report that he "hates" Drake and Deidre. He says that nothing could be further from the truth - "I love them both." He says "it was never a personal thing" and he considers them "lifelong friends". He hopes their paths cross again.

- Corday says regarding the possibility of more cuts: "We're done." This week, Corday will address the cast and crew and hand out t-shirts with a special message. He is going to tell them that this week their new contract with NBC starts, "and the difficult, onerous, painful bloodletting of this transition is over."

WOW this is just unreal!!! How could she be forced to choose either quit or get fired and more importantly why would she have to make that decision when people like kate and melanie and chloe should be fired. There are some very talented people on days but why is days getting rid of that talent and keeping on people like chloe, kate and melanie and you know what, i like stephanie but if i had to choose, i would get rid of her before getting rid of chelsea!!! Chelsea had a wonderful storyline last year and I LOVED her and daniel together, rachel and shawn were nothing short of amazing together and they were MUCH better together and better to watch than daniel/kate and daniel/chloe!!!

She will be missed!!!! I wish days would get it right for once!!!

Another blow. Now that they finally have made the character likable, they back burner her which causes her to make the decision to leave. I was really hoping they would pair her back up with Max. Now that she has grown-up, the two would be good together (much better than Max with Steph). Not sure I could deal with a recast though. I agree with many others that Stephanie should stay with Philip. They work much better together. Why, oh WHY can't we just get rid of Melanie... she is so whiny and I can't hit the fast forward quick enough when she comes on screen. Days keeps losing good characters... says something when I can watch the taped show in about 15-20 minutes because of all the fast forwarding I am doing these days.

this show is tanking fast, these new characters(stephanie, melanie, mia, sami(never could stand her) cannot carry this show, and they've really put the screws to the vets. they won't have a show in 6 months. Peter and Kristian shouldn't be expected to baby sit a bunch of kids who can't act. This show has never regained it's punch after they killed Steve off,(in the early 90's)

She will be missed. I didn't like her at first but as she changed she grew on me and I was looking forward to watching the reunion between her and Max. Best of luck to her in her future endeavors.

I have to agree. When your show is on the verge on destruction, you don't get rid of the best actors, you make sure you keep them. Stephanie just jumps from one relationship to the next, Melanie is always smirking, and every time a decent couple gets together, something always happens. I know that is the basis of soaps, but I think people actually want to see happy endings for a change. The entire base of actors for this show is gone. Bo and Hope won't have a storyline left after all their friends are gone, we rarely see Abe and Lexie, Roman has been single forevere and he was great with Kate, and Philip has always been nice and now his character has done a 180 degree turn. Rachel is an amazing young actress(more believable than Stephanie, Chloe or Melanie) and she's the one going!!!!!!!!What is wrong with this team on Days? They don't know good talent when they have it. I hope Rachel moves on to ATWT.

That's what I do too.

I sure hope she knows what she is doing and has a large savings account to live on for a while. Jobs are scarce even in the acting field and she may not get work for a while. If I were her, I would not have opted out so soon before the economy improves. I wish her a lot of luck.
