Updated February 26:

Lori Wilson (Soaps.com reporter) just got off the phone with Rachel, who says that although she is unsure of exact dates, she will be done taping the last week of March. She believes her last airdate will be some time in late April. The role of Chelsea Brady will not be recast.

Updated February 13, 2009

Now that word has spread that Rachel Melvin is leaving Days, the actress has taken to her blog to discuss her reasons for leaving.

Among other things, Rachel writes about her time on the show saying, “If you had asked me four years ago what I expected from life and my career, I never would have guessed any of what I actually received. It's been a rush, a whirlwind, a crash course, and at times even a rude awakening, but above anything else it's been magical.”

Rachel also addresses the rumors and speculation as to why she has decided not to renew her contract.

It seems the hits just keep on coming over at Days, as hot on the heels of the news that Mary Beth Evans (Kayla), Stephen Nichols (Steve) and Thaao Penghlis (Tony) are leaving the show, comes word that Rachel Melvin (Chelsea) has elected not to renew her contract when it runs out this spring.

Even though Rachel was nominated for a Daytime Emmy last year, her character hasn’t been given much of a storyline lately, which has also been the case with her co-star Thaao Penghlis. Therefore, the actress’ decision might not come as too much of a shock to fans, even though things looked promising when the show re-teamed Chelsea with her ex-boyfriend Max.

There are no specific details on how Chelsea will be written out or when, but you can be sure Soaps.com will keep you up to date on all the breaking developments.

that is depressing. i liked her a lot. i can't believe they give characters nobody cares about frontburner s/l but they don't give the real talent anything. what a waste.

It is not a surprise that she would be leaving. She has grown a lot since she came on the show. She is one of the characters that I have enjoyed watched. Whether or not you liked the storyline, she delivered it well and grew in the process.

I think she was at her best when they began to pair her up with Daniel and when Bo was sick.

Good luck to her in her next endeavor.

I really grew to like Chelsea and hoped she would get some great story lines, but I kind of knew that the younger actors/actresses would not be able to continue working for peanuts. Ken says Max is staying, but he is already taking on other projects outside of Days, so I am not so sure.

Maybe so many of the younger actors/actresses will quit that Corday will HAVE to bring back our Vets in order to have a show!LOL

I love the character of Chelsea and I will miss her. They should get rid of Chloe. I cannot stand her.

I totally agree with you Ssyan! Poor Lucas gets kicked around again! And Chole's been with half the males on the show! Who's next Max?

kayell- I totally agree with you that she was certainly at her best when she was paired with Daniel, (SC). Too me, they had it all and I'm thankful I got to watch such an amazing love story. I think Rachel had grown so much in these last few years, she's a class act and I wish her all the best in life. I will miss her for my own selfish reasons but she is too talented to just be on the backburner at Days. Good Luck Rachel, you will be missed!

This is surprising on one hand yet its not. I love Rachel and she has done a wonderful job with the character Chelsea!!!
Even though she made the decision to leave its still not fair...I mean its not like she had much of a choice...I guess it was either quit or be fired...this just totally sucks that she was forced to quit when she is an emmy nominated actress & an outstanding actress at that...I just...will never get why this show gives front burner storylines to people like kate, chloe & melanie yet they fire other actors while other actresses are forced to quit...this just beats all!!!
I wish Rachel the best...she is certainly better than this show!!!
