Will the baby pop up alive, years later? (Soaps.com)
We’re here for a good time, not a long time:
Before I get into my thoughts, I wanted to ask your opinion about vets. Remember when you started watching soaps? Which of the characters do you remember the most, from those days? Was it the vets or was it the younger crowd, or both? For me, it was the vets, such as Lisa McColl and Lucinda on
As the World Turns, and Victor, Nikki, Ashley and John on
Y&R. What’s my point? The show is letting go of John and Marlena, who account for most of their ratings for cast like Melanie, Stephanie and Max, that not as many care about. If …if there is a chance that the show is only going to be on another 18 months, I would just make it a good time and consider that quality vs quantity.
Nick, Melanie, Stephanie and Chelsea:
Nick will be gone in January. Storyline related, obviously, when he goes to jail or to a psychiatric hospital…
Stephanie and Chelsea couldn’t blame their dear friend Nick for killing Trent or for hurting Melanie the way he did, so they did what they could do and blamed the victim – Melanie. Human nature...and I’ve been there. It’s what we do sometimes, to protect ourselves when we’re still in shock, but it is never the victim’s fault, no matter what type of person they are. Melanie may be a brat. She may be the least liked character, but she did nothing to make Nick stalk her and kill her father. He does not love her. Stalkers do not love their victims. He doesn’t even know Melanie. Stalkers rarely know their victims, truly. They know what they have built up in their imaginations, which is usually something far different than the truth. Nick needs psychiatric help. Like bad girl witchy Melanie or not, if you were in her position, you would never take the blame for a stalker’s actions! That being said, I couldn’t feel sorry for Melanie when she started a physical fight with Chelsea. It didn’t fit the story or her. I was baffled by the whole exchange.
Melanie and Melanie and Philly:
Don’t worry, you won’t see these two getting together. I was – surprise – a little confused about the Melanie/Philly exchange on Tuesday’s episode. It didn’t make sense. Melanie knows that Philip owns and runs Titan. She knows his last name, too. We know all of this because she found out the day of their first meeting, when she introduced herself to him, at Chez Rouge. Remember that she asked for his help in finding out who murdered her father. Fast forward to Tuesday. She applied for a job at Titan, and walked into the Brady pub – where all Salem business meetings take place- and interrupted a man behind a newspaper. It was Philly. All in all, it was an awkward scene that wasn’t well executed, in my humble opinion and no, I couldn’t do better – or perhaps I could. Nah! Melanie was shocked that though Philly owned the company, he still worked. This shows us how little Melanie knows about life beyond her horrid life with Trent. She showed us that she is desperate and doesn’t have anybody else in her life that she can go to for help, when she stole a patron’s (Bob) wallet from the pub Now, I’m curious as to who her mother is. I’d love if it were Nicole, as everyone keeps suggesting. I think it’s fitting. Nicole’s had a rough life and could teach Miss. Melanie a few things. I think they’d be comical together. I feel for Melanie that she hasn’t learned right from wrong – a little bit like Nicole and Sami. She’s a mess and I hope somebody will figure out a way to find her heart…it’s buried somewhere amongst all the hurt and pain that Trent gave her. For those that still hate her, keep hating her if you like, or consider this…keep in mind, she’s a young girl, coming into her own. She needs guidance, therapy and a friend who won’t take any of her crap. She has had no mother (I kind of wish it was Nicole) and her father was a piece of trash. (Sorry dear Trent, rest your soul! *giggle*) So who has she had? Herself. She has had to rely on herself and nobody seems to have taught her much of anything. I still don’t “like” her but sometimes I feel for her.
Philly and mate:
No, not Melanie. Consider Stephanie and Philly. Good match or no? We might see things going this way and I’d like your thoughts on that!
Chelsea and Max:
Is it just me, or are these two giving each other gogo eyes? I like this twist…they could be good together. IT’s the first time I’ve actually “approved” of a relationship on the show in a while.
Maggie:
It’s good to see her “used” more on the show. I really do like her and am thankful she’s around! She’s honest and doesn’t pussyfoot around. I like that.
Doc seems to have a Paraphilia. (Soaps.com)
Nicole and Brady…and EJ:
One thought: Is it possible that Nicole's baby is still alive? I mean, maybe years down the road, they could revisit this. Just a thought. Not a spoiler or rumour.
Nicole’s anguished screams at losing her baby had me in tears. Too bad Days never have a real chance at the daytime Emmys. (Politics) She’d be a shoe in with those scenes. Love her! She was a very naughty girl, lying to EJ about losing the baby. I guess she doesn’t watch soaps to know that this’ll never work. Somebody will find out and she’ll be caught. I wish for once that a girl on a soap would do the right thing and just say…”Screw it. I lost the baby, but I’m still here. Want me or not?” If he doesn’t, then he’s not right for you and there’s nothing wrong with that. Good thing that soaps aren’t exactly educational! That won’t happen. Spoiler: Nicole is going to bring home a pregnancy pad and EJ will be in the dark.
John and Marlena:
Marlena gave John an ultimatum and now he’s finally going to get some help, but it doesn’t ring true, because nothing has changed for him to suddenly acquiesce to her demands. Watch Monday for her to overstep some boundaries. I’ll get into that next week.
Paging Dr Daniel Jonas/ The Euuww Factor:
He seems to have a paraphilia involving sick women or women who have been very ill in the past. Chelsea, Kate and now Chloe. Matt says he thinks it’s some form of Morbidophilia and I agree, along with perhaps a bit of the Florence Nightingale effect? (Google them if you’re not sure.)
I’ve been avoiding discussing Dr. Jonas for weeks and weeks, because Matt (Matty’s Musings on Soap Opera Fan) already did it for me, so well! I can’t avoid it any longer. I’ll start from the beginning…set things up. I like the actor. Always have. He played Mike on
As the World Turns and I really liked him and his chemistry with Chelsea when he first came to Salem. I thought he was intriguing, and looked past the surfer talk because he’s cute. The new dialogue is a little different for him. He’s not as surfer dude-ish and I like that. I have an issue with the fact that he was with Chelsea and is now doing her grandma (Pardon the expression, it could have been worse, but this is a family site!) and now he expects Chelsea to be thrilled with the fact. Wrong. She’s right on target. The Euuww factor hasn’t left her and I don’t blame her. He needs to back off and leave her alone. Eventually, the Euuww factor might go away for Chelsea, but wouldn’t it be fun if they always had a difficult relationship from this point forward? A little animosity could be fun. She could get in a few grandmother jabs here and there! I’m bothered that Daniel’s with Kate, yet he’s flirting with Chloe, who is taken. Such a dog (dawg). I see in the boards that we’ve still got many Dansea fans…and Daniel fans. I’m curious as to why people like Daniel so much, because there isn’t much to him. He is a dog. He dogged Chelsea and now he’s dogging Kate!
Kate:
Spoiler alert! Speaking of Kate, many have been blasting the show about the bone marrow transplant Kate is to have, but actually, bone marrow transplants are performed on those with small cell lung cancer, though let’s be honest…small cell is a death sentence. I know somebody who had this and they died within two years. Will this happen, or will there be a miracle?
Brady:
I’m still on the fence for the character who blends into the background for the moment and who’s about to become Nicole’s patsy. Wednesday’s scenes showed how decent he is, which makes the next few weeks all the more distressing. His goodness will certainly be his downfall. Nicole is going back to being her bad girl self. Brady let Nicole lean on him during her miscarriage, stopped her from getting into the sauce and I foresee difficult times ahead for him. The majority of people seem to really like him, according to my poll this week. Chelsea sure seems to as well, eh? Can somebody tell me how these two even know each other?! When Chelsea greeted him at Kate’s party, they acted like long lost friends, but I swear, she wasn’t even in town until after he left… That’s a huge history rewrite.
The party for Kate was ridiculous. Victor treated Chloe like a piece of dirt, and she didn’t deserve it, Daniel dashed out to the hospital to get more bad news on Kate, (Just how big is this town that nobody really questions the length of his disappearance?) they had Philip giving away watches under his trench coat and all this was done around the pool….in the end of November. In Salem. Massachusetts. Where it’s about 7 degrees Celsius (44.6 degrees F) Not my kind of party! Look for a scene between Kate and Daniel on Monday’s episode, where you’ll see snow on the ground. Who sits outside in snow, unless they’re a smoker?!
Hilda the Hun:
Love her. Love that gravelly voice. Love how she’s a crusty dude-type who watches football. Love anyone who is the opposite of me!! I think they should keep bringing her around. Too bad she’s FBI, because I’d like to see her wandering through Salem PD, making her snide comments and making fun of Salem PD from time to time. That would really perk things up.
Rafe:
This week Rafe eavesdropped on Hope and Julie, and found out all sorts of juicy gossip. I detested that scene. I detested writing it. I can’t stand gossip or listening to it and Julie’s become quite the gossipy hag, along with her little
“get in yo biznezz” friend Hope. I digress. It was done for a reason, to show eavesdropper Rafe why Sami’s so adamant to keep her child from Stefano and EJ. I can’t say whether or not this means a reprieve for us with regards to the incessant arguing.
Sami:
I really just hate this storyline. Sami, who is in the witness protection program, because a killer is after her, and now her family, decides to just wander out on her own to a nearby convent. When I think of this, I want to name call. It’s preposterous, outlandish, absurd, ridiculous….please end the insanity. I wonder how the noobs will react to this. Will it keep them watching?
What’s keeping you watching?
