Higley left to go on to work for One Life to Live from December 13 to September 10 2007,and though she has garnered several Daytime Emmy Award Nominations for Best Writing in 1987, 1994, 1997-1999, and 2006, her writing has been met with criticism from not only fans but the actors. In a March 2007 interview with, Emmy Award winning actress One Life to Live's Erika Slezak, Slezak comments, "Dena doesn't care about the rich history of the show, which is evident in what she writes," and that Higley "wants to write stories that she thinks are interesting but nobody else does." The fans were also upset with the writer of the show as told in another article on Soaps.com: Higley Fired!. Fans may be happy to see the last of Sheffer's work, Hogan Sheffer precedes Higley, as Head Writer from October 2006 onward. He was let go during the Writer's Strike of 2007/2008 and was also met with criticism about his writing both for his work on As the World Turns and Days of Our Lives. He started off well but the ratings, much like the writing, went downhill shortly thereafter. Please feel free to read more about this here.
Soaps.com always has faith in the show and we try to stay positive with any new change but like the fans, we too wonder… does this past criticism of the show's new Head Writer hold any bearing on the future of Days of Our Lives?
