CHELSEA BENSON-BRADY'S HISTORY
Chelsea hasn't always been the “good girl” she seemed to be. Coming off as Abby’s sweet and innocent best friend, Chelsea was surreptitiously encouraging Abby to smoke, drink, and lie. Meeting Abby’s friend Patrick Lockhart gave Chelsea a new mission in life: to get Patrick for herself! With Abby’s help, Chelsea worked hard to keep Patrick out of Jennifer Deveraux’s clutches and then to keep him away from Billie Reed.
Her dogged pursuit of Patrick led her to drug him, hoping he’d sleep with her, and then later to spike Billie’s drink, an act which backfired, actually driving Billie and Patrick together.
On Abby’s 17th birthday, tragedy struck, as a car accident claimed the lives of both of Chelsea’s parents. Billie stepped in and took the orphaned Chelsea into her own care, and the two of them moved in with Patrick.
Soon after moving in and still mourning the loss of her parents, Chelsea was shocked to learn that the parents she was grieving weren’t her real parents. Her real parents were actually Bo and Billie! Seems the stillborn daughter, Georgia, that Billie had suffered years before had actually been alive and healthy…and stolen by the DiMeras.
This new development was a problem for Chelsea, who was no friend to Billie – her biggest obstacle to getting her hands on Patrick! But eventually Chelsea came around when it came to Billie, who had so taken up for her – so much so that Chelsea sent a fake email to Hope, pretending to be Bo, and saying he wanted a divorce, just so Billie and Bo could get back together. This proved to be a mistake, as a livid Bo disowned Chelsea when he found out.
Chelsea’s troubles extended behind the wheel as she has so many reckless driving moments that her driver’s license was revoked. She took driving lessons to appease Bo and was eventually given car privileges on New Years Eve. That would prove to be a fatal mistake, as Chelsea, taking her eyes off the road while text messaging, “hit something.” Later she learned that the “something” she hit was her half-brother, Zack. Zack died from the accident and Chelsea was sure she’d be in deep trouble. But Billie took the blame and Chelsea got off the hook.
Later, Chelsea found herself involved in an online affair with someone calling himself Dr. Shane Patten. Falling for Dr. Patten, Chelsea asked Nick to find out who the guy really was, but found out that “Dr. Patten” was really Nick, trying to get in Chelsea’s heart. Chelsea was so hurt by this betrayal she ended her friendship with him. Later, when she found out that Nick had slept with her mother, Chelsea moved out and went to live with Bo. Her mother has tried to repair the relationship, but things are still icy between them.
In yet another dramatic turn of events, Bo’s house is set on fire by Willow Stark, who used Chelsea’s hairbrush to frame her for the blaze. Frightened, Chelsea turned to her good old friend Nick to steal the hairbrush so Bo wouldn’t find out about it. Nick, afraid that Chelsea was lying, went to Willow who tried to steal the hairbrush from Nick and ultimately died in the ensuing struggle.
Since, Chelsea has moved on and, while Nick has vowed to win her back, her eye has been caught by Jett Carver, who she almost kissed. When she witnessed Jett get shot in the back in a Vegas casino, Jett delivered an ambulance confession: he told Chelsea he loved her!
Jett recovered from his gunshot wound and got a job in security with Billie, her mom. Chelsea and Nick reunited but their relationship hit several bumpy paths. Stephanie convinced Chelsea to join a sorority at Salem University and they became close friends with her sorority sisters. When rape crimes ensued at the University, Chelsea learned that one of her sorority sisters, Cordy, was raped by campus rapist, Ford Decker. She and her Theta sisters devised a plan to incriminate Ford Decker. Chelsea lured him to the sorority house where Ford tried to rape her. In a struggle, Ford fell down the stairs to his death. Worried that they would be charged with murder, Chelsea and her sorority sisters decided to hide Ford's body (with the help of Max Brady), and deny that anything happened. Chelsea's visions of Ford and feelings of guilt haunted her and put a strain on her and Nick's relationship. Ford's father suspected that Chelsea and the girls were responsible for Ford's disappearance. The truth eventually came out but Chelsea's grandfather, Victor, convinced Ford's father not to press charges.
Nick and Chelsea once again reunited and when the story-line in Ireland wrapped up, Chelsea learned that her grandfather, Shawn Senior, had died a hero on the plane from Ireland. She also learned that Bo was in serious danger when his pancreas started shutting down. Chelsea desperately feared that she would lose her father. Not knowing that she was the matched donor for Bo's pancreatic surgery, she ended up drunk in the park, where she first met Daniel Jonas. Chelsea was found in time, taken to the hospital, and went through detox before she underwent a risky surgery to donate a part of her pancreas to save Bo. While in the hospital, Chelsea learned that the guy from the park was her doctor, Daniel Jonas, and she developed a crush on him. Bo's transplant was a success and this brought Chelsea and her father much closer. Meanwhile, with Nick's physics project taking a lot of his time and attention, Chelsea felt distant with Nick. She eventually broke things off with him because she couldn't deny her attraction to Daniel any longer. Chelsea pursued Daniel, who first rejected her. Much to everyone's dismay, Daniel couldn't deny his feelings for Chelsea any longer and they started dating.
Chelsea continued her studies at Salem University and got a job at the hospital working with children with disabilities. She enjoyed her rewarding job and grew closer with Theo Carver, Lexi and Abe's Autistic son.
Eventually, Chelsea learned that Daniel and Kate had slept together before her and Daniel were in a relationship. Disgusted, Chelsea broke up with Daniel and grew to resent Kate. To get her mind off her problems, Chelsea met up with Stephanie, Max, and Nick who were in France to find Max's long lost sister, Melanie Layton. There, Chelsea was bothered to see that Nick was getting closer to Melanie.
Back in Salem, Chelsea decided that she couldn't forgive and forget what had happened between Daniel and Kate. When Kate became ill and was eventually diagnosed with lung cancer, Chelsea tried her best to be there for Kate, despite their strained relationship. Chelsea continues her work at the hospital. She has tried to mend her relationship with Nick, but Nick is preoccupied with Melanie. Chelsea worries that Melanie is taking advantage of Nick.

Thursday, January 08 2009: There is No Us!
Chelsea picks up the engagement cake and bumps into Max, who has come to pick up his cell phone that he left it there New Year’s Eve. He sees Chelsea and asks if she’s avoiding him. She hasn’t returned his calls. She denies it and reminds him he just got his cell phone back. He reminds her that the last time he saw her, she ran out on him! Chelsea’s cake comes and she explains that it’s for the engagement of Chloe and Lucas, but she doesn’t feel good about going, since there will be couples there, with the exception of her. She mentions Philip and Stephanie and apologizes, but Max is indifferent. He invites himself as her date but she thinks he is only offering because he feels sorry for her. He doesn’t and she tells him she’ll be fine and puts on a brave show. “I’ll see you around,” she says and apologizes for not returning his calls.
Chelsea shows up at Kiriakis mansion and senses something’s wrong. Lucas tells her not to ask about Daniels’ face, when she sees him. Later, Kate arrives and they sample the o' d'herves. Kate goes off to check on the rest of the food while Lucas gets up to check on Chloe. Chelsea stops him. “Girls don’t like to be rushed,” she tells him, so he sits down.
Wednesday, December 31 2008: Happy New Year!
Chelsea greets Max at the pub saying, “What’s it going to be, sex or football?” Chelsea jokes that when guys want to talk it’s usually about one of those. Max picks football as he reveals that he’s giving up sex as his New Year’s resolution. Chelsea makes a joke that she’s giving up canoeing. She tells him to lighten up and invites him to Chez Rouge with her. Max agrees but Chelsea remembers that he can’t come because she’s worried he’s going to see Stephanie. Max says he’ll be fine and Chelsea reminds him to have fun because resolutions don’t kick in until January 2nd.
Kate arrives at Chez Rouge with Chelsea and Max. Max exchanges a smile with Stephanie at the table. Kate asks where Chloe is and Lucas says he doesn’t know. Kate makes a toast to health, peace, and happiness. Kate tells Philip to ask Stephanie to dance, and they get up as Chelsea asks Max if it was a bad idea to invite him. Philip and Stephanie dance as Melanie looks on. Max bumps into Melanie and wishes her a Happy New Year. Kate gets worried about Chloe’s absence as Maggie announces it’s almost time for the countdown. The guy from the bar spills his drink on Stephanie as Melanie looks on with a smirk. Stephanie goes to clean her dress as Melanie approaches Philip and asks if he lost his dance partner. Philip is not amused and tells her that was subtle. Max and Chelsea stand beside each other as Maggie counts down. They wish each other a Happy New year and kiss, while Melanie and Philip share an intense look.
