Pining Away...

At the pub, Max apologizes for not being himself lately and Stephanie apologizes for snooping through his stuff. She knows there is something else bothering him. She thinks he's smarter than Nick, but thinks it's upsetting not to get recognition. He admits to having a problem with Dean Robbins. Just then, the Dean and Nick arrive.

Max dashes off into the pub kitchen and Dean Robbins sarcastically tells Nick that Max is charming. Nick stands up for Max and says his father passed on recently and he's going through a lot. Stephanie takes Nick aside and tells him Max and the Dean had a fight. Chelsea interrupts and to get food for Kate, who is in the hospital. Stephanie comforts her and gets Max to take her order, while Nick apologizes and offers to call her later. Nick returns to Dean Robbins as Max goes to Chelsea to take her order. Nick asks the Dean about his argument with Max and is told Max isn't a fan of his theories. Nick is stumped. Nearby, Stephanie tells Chelsea that Max has a secret. When Max arrives with the food for Kate, she takes it, offering to call Steph later. Nick finds Max and asks if they can discuss his issue with the Dean and why he changed his papers. Max asks, "You actually think this is about you?" He says he's entitled to his own opinion and he knows enough about the Dean to judge him. Nick is shocked and asks how he knows so much about physics. Max makes light of it but admits he altered Nick's work. Stephanie interrupts, glad it's out in the open, but Nick doesn't understand why they didn't tell him sooner. Max was trying to be a friend, but Nick asks why he did this behind his back. If he had told him, they could have collaborated. Max isn't proud of it, he says. Nick goes to Dean Robbins and tells him he's giving the grant money back! Dean Robbins tries to wrap his head around this but Nick tells him if he wants to build the eco-prototype, Max is his guy.

Beers to Pour.

Stephanie arrives at the pub and Pete tells her Max will return soon. She greets Dean Phillips and when Max arrives, he kicks the man out. Dean Phillips wants a word with his manager and Max smirks. "You're looking at him." The Dean came to see Max and wants to know how he knows about forward thinking. Max refuses to answer and tells Dean Philips to get out. When he leaves, Stephanie questions Max. Why is he being so secretive? "I've got beers to pour," he says, and leaves. Stephanie goes up to his room.

Stephanie returns to the bar, with a photo of a woman. She wants to know who it is but is insulted that his own girlfriend ransacked his room! He yells that it's a photo of his real mother. Stephanie asks for forgiveness and asks to see the photo again. She smiles. His mother is pretty and he has her smile. He stares wistfully at the photo. He doesn't have many memories of her but reminisces about going to the park with her. He's not sure if it's real or not. Stephanie wonders if they can find her and is happy he opened up to her. With a hug, they promise, no more secrets!

Spine Shattering Sex on a Submarine!

Max, Stephanie and Nick arrive at Java Café, for Dean Robbins book signing, for his book, "Cold Fusion". Nick leaves to get coffee while Stephanie reminds an annoyed Max she knows he's right into this cold fusion stuff! Nick returns and Max blandly tells him he's happy for Nick and his success. Nick's feeling a vibe, but tells Max that he can tell him anything. Max knows and tells them he's something to say. He's amazed by Nick's focus, determination and brain. Nick asks, "That's it?" Max nods, but Stephanie thinks there is more. When Dean Robbins arrives, Max is angry. He didn't know the Dean was the author of the book. He recovers by saying he thought they were going to meet someone famous. They laugh and when Dean Robbins is introduced to Max, he reluctantly shakes the man's hand, distastefully. After Dean Robbins discusses his book to his fans, Nick gets an autograph and the threesome leave. Max quickly returns and Dean Robbins asks if he wants an autograph. Max has no interest, and tells the Dean that he's a con man, a fraud and that his book is garbage! Robbins thinks Max doesn't comprehend his theories, but Max tells him that his ideas are flawed and his premise is wrong. He plans on telling the University all about it. Dean Robbins is astounded!

You're Done!

At the pub, Nick talks to Dean Robbins and is told his formula is years ahead of his time. "You're a brilliant young man," he says, much to Nick's concern.

Chelsea and Morgan discuss their grade. Chelsea has to make up for the time she was off with surgery, but Morgan did well. Stephanie arrives with good news about her high grades. Morgan leaves and Stephanie finds Pete, who tells her Max will be there soon. Max arrives and watches Nick with Dean Robbins, his mouth set in a grim line. Max asks Pete to take his shift. He'll pay him double, but Pete's worn out. Max makes a spectacle of himself by yelling at Pete to cut him a break. Max is distracted by Dean Robbins and Nick, so he runs off. Nick and the Dean drop by Chelsea's table to find out what the commotion was, but nobody can tell him.

Max is Spooked!

Maggie welcomes Lexie, Daniel, and Bo to the restaurant. They all compliment her on the green changes she's made to Chez Rouge. Just then, Hope arrives and kisses Maggie. Daniel's phone rings, just as Nick arrives. Not far behind is Chelsea, which takes Daniel off guard. Soon, a toast is made to Nick in celebration of his developing the alternative fuel source. Nearby, Chelsea grills Daniel on what he is doing there. He says he's meeting some guys from work, and steps forward to compliment Nick on his successful research. Chelsea makes a knowing remark about Daniel not liking commitment, which makes everyone feel awkward. Chelsea then walks away to speak to Nick, telling him how proud she is of him. He informs her that this almost didn't happen - he almost didn't get his grant! When he admits that a friend helped him out, she asks who it was. Just then, Stephanie arrives. Nick asks where Max is - after all, he had a lot to do with him getting the funding. Stephanie flashes back to Max admitting that he fixed Nick's work. She then tells Nick that whatever Max did it was to help, but Nick says he just wishes Max had given his papers back when he found them in the pub! Daniel stands with his friends at the bar, and is stunned when they start checking out Chelsea! Nearby, Dean Robbins arrives to present Nick with a check to build his new prototype. Everyone claps. Dean Robbins makes a nice speech about how the University is so proud of him! When Nick is asked to make a speech in return, he hesitates. Back at the bar, Daniel tries to stop his buddy from pursuing Chelsea, but to no avail. Just as Nick is taken away to meet some alumni by Dean Robbins, Daniel's friend accosts Chelsea. At a nearby table, Lexie confides in Hope that she feels her marriage may be in trouble! On the other side of the room, a guilt-ridden Nick admits to Dean Robbins that he had help with some of the calculations and may not be entitled to the check he has been given! Dean Robbins scoffs that all great men have help. He makes another toast to Nick and Bo yells, "Hear, hear!" Back at their table, Lexie tells Hope that they are getting therapy for their marriage and for Theo's sake as well. Hope smiles, and suggest they join the others. Chelsea, meanwhile, turns down the flirtatious friend of Daniel's, much to his relief. As the men tease Daniel that Chelsea has actually been looking at her own doctor, Daniel does a stiff shot!
