Steve takes the cell phone call on his phone at Ava's urging. Kayla is on the line and he tells her this is a bad time. Kayla, exasperated and worried, starts to yell at Steve to tell her where he is. She says her stress level is off the charts. Steve tells her to relax and she tells him she knows all about Ava. Steve laughs and Ava tells Angelo to get the phone and find out whose number it is. Steve yells that she already has his answer, and smashes the phone into smithereens! He tells Ava the person on the other end of the line was a jerk - a Real Estate Agent who wouldn't take no for an answer. He doesn't like to be told what to do.
Back at Ava's place, Ava holds the gun on Kayla and Steve, while Steve tells her to have faith in him. Steve has never loved Kayla the way he loves Ava, he says and asks to go somewhere quiet with her. "Let's forget about her," he says, motioning to Hope. Ava likes the idea and asks if they can get married. Gun held to his head, Steve agrees to it. She wants a magical wedding by the ocean, in Hawaii and a honeymoon. Angelo arrives and interrupts. She has a session with her doctor and has to leave for a time. After she's gone, Steve and Hope think of ways to get out and assume Ava's appointment was with a psychiatrist. They go through the room but Ava soon arrives back and wants to know what they're talking about.
Smokin' Hot!
Angelo shows Steve back to Ava's room where Hope is waiting. He tells her that dinner didn’t happen because Ava passed out! Hope assumes it was the medication she took and they agree there is something off with Ava. They are interrupted by Ava who thinks they've been arguing. Steve says Kayla's (Hope's) jealous of Ava and thinks something went on last night. Hope calls Ava a tramp and Steve tells her not to talk to Ava like that. Hope demands to know what happened last night so Ava elects to discuss it alone. After Steve is taken away, Ava lies that she and Patch made love. Hope feigns shock and disbelief. She and Steve were having issues long before this but she didn't thing things were that bad. She puts on the tears and wants to know whose idea it was. Ava says he warmed up to her during a few drinks and this makes Hope double over with laughter. "So you had to get him drunk?" Ava denies it and wants to know what happens now. Hope admits she's not sure. She and Steve have had problems but she thought he loved her. She calls the situation sick and hates how attracted Steve is to Ava. She yells that she wants nothing to do with that bastard, much to Ava's delight. Steve arrives with Angelo and walks right into a slap across the face! Hope (Kayla) accuses him of lying and sleeping with Ava but Steve denies and says his feelings for Ava are complicated. He asks if she's giving up on them and Hope says, "It's hard to believe…" Angelo, still in the room, is unconvinced of their act but Ava believes it. Steve's cell phone interrupts them and Ava pulls a gun and tells Steve to answer it but not to try anything funny.
Grunt Number Three!
In Ava's room, Steve urges Kayla (Hope) to follow his lead. They hug and at Ava's request, they almost kiss, until she pries them apart and comments that they weren't passionate enough for her liking! Hostage situations don't do it for Hope, she says and Steve asks Ava to let Kayla (Hope) go and keep him. She refuses. She doesn’t think Hope will let him go without a fight. Instead, she'll go to the cops! Hope and Steve try to outwit Ava and encourage her to let Kayla (Hope) go. Ava thinks it's a trap and reminds him that he destroyed her. Hope is confused about the lack of trust that Ava has for Steve, but Ava asks him to prove himself to her. Ava starts to hear an echo when Steve talks and she clutches her head, in pain and yells for him to shut up. She takes a pill and explains she gets migraines but the doctors can't figure out why, since she never had them before! Steve apologizes and Ava tells him that it's his fault! "That's why you have to pay," she says through gritted teeth. Steve apologizes for hurting her and tells her he was really messed up at the time. Ava tells him he can prove it by having dinner with her. She smiles and he asks her… "What about Kayla?" Ava freaks out and yells that it should be the two of them. She goes to Kayla (Hope) and places a hand on her stomach. Hope flinches and yanks her hand away! Ava is puzzled and comments that her belly is really flat. "How far along did you say you were?" she ponders. Hope says 12 weeks and Ava says asks if Steve is sure Kayla (Hope) is pregnant. Steve saw the sonogram. Ava insists on getting a house call from her doctor to examine Kayla (Hope) but she refuses. She only trusts her doctor. Ava doesn't want to get blamed if something should happen to the baby. Ava calls Angelo into the room and asks him to take Kayla (Hope) to another room so she can dine with Patch. Once they're gone, Ava kisses Steve passionately.

Ava waits impatiently for Patch to show but eventually figures he doesn't care about his wife and tells her driver to leave. Steve shows up and gets inside the limo and asks how his wife is. Ava tells him to forget her and then says she's fine. She refuses to tell him more and sulks that people don't like her. Steve can't imagine her father would allow that but she says things have changed. Ava thinks Steve loves her and he says, "Yeah…" He asks her to take him to Kayla but she just wants them to get back together and marry. He doesn't see it happening and says she has all the power here and he yells, "Where is my wife?" Ava tells him to quiet down or her cousins will take Kayla away from him for good. He comments on her sabotaging the plane and they rehash that. Steve notices she's upset and goes on about those she killed and it gets to her. She yells at him to stop it and that she didn't mean for it to happen. "I hate you," she yells and tells him he doesn't want to see her when she's upset. She gets a headache when it's about to happen and doesn't like herself when she's mad. She blames Steve for the plane sabotage and brings up his leaving her. Ava changes the conversation to marriage and kids. He has ruined her life and will ruin Kayla's life. She says they don't even have kids yet and Steve lies that he loves her. He can be the old Patch for her as long as she doesn't hurt anyone else. She says her life has been hell and moves in closer to him. She wants to know when he will marry her and have their three babies with her. He says they'll talk about it later and she kisses him and professes her love for him. They arrive at her mansion with Steve looking grim.
Ava and Steve arrive at Ava's mansion and Ava stops them from hugging. Hope says she's fine and she's been treating her well. Ava thinks Hope is lucky she is understanding and asks her not to push her but Steve reminds her that she promised she wouldn't hurt anyone. Ava isn't sure she can trust him and thinks Kayla (Hope) turned Steve into a sniveling wimp. Ava accuses Kayla (Hope) of going through her stuff.
Happily Ever After...
Still held hostage by Ava, Hope tells Ava that she's excited this whole thing will be over soon as Steve should make his decision once they meet. Ava's excited too but doesn’t' know why Kayla (Hope) is. Does she think he'll choose her? Hope yells that he will never want Ava after she sabotaged the plane. "Three people died in that crash," she cries. Ava argues the plane wasn't supposed to get off the ground, but refuses to take responsibility for her actions. Hope asks what her plan was and Ava admits she hoped the pilots would tell the family they couldn't take off just yet. Then, she'd have a chance to talk to Patch. She tells how he'd have snuck away from them, come to her, gone somewhere to chat, fell back in love with her and they'd wind up happily ever after! Ava apologizes but Hope says it’s not good enough. It doesn't bring them back. Hope talks about how Pop was the sweetest kindest man and Ava quietly says it sounds scary but points out the oxygen masks had to have dropped down. Hope yells that they didn't have enough oxygen for them all as the masks malfunctioned. She cries that Pop had to sacrifice it and she tells that Steve's friend Bo was very ill and offered his own oxygen but Pop refused. That's why he died. Ava turns away, crying and apologizes. "That wasn't supposed to happen." Ava asks for her father's last name and Hope tells her "Brady, Shawn Brady." Ava pauses and talks Angelo into letting her out.
Max shows up at the cemetery and Pop's grave with two beers, and tells Pop that Nick got his grant and he's happy for him. Nick's a smart guy but makes mistakes from time to time. "He needs a little guidance," he says with a laugh. He updates Pop that he's taking care of mom and the pub but he'll never go back to school. He comments, "You didn't and you did fine and so will I." He wants to find something else because he wants to take care of Stephanie. He tells Pop he misses him and Ava stops by with a potted flowering plant, apologizing for the interruption and asking if this is Shawn Brady's grave. He asks who she is and Ava tells him a friend told her about him. She wanted to pay her respects. Max tells her he's family and calls Pop the best man he's ever known. Ava asks Max to tell her a little about him. Max says, "He was from Ireland, had a pub in Salem, had six kids and the biggest heart of anyone I've ever met. He was kind and understanding, strong when he needed to be... full of life and love." Ava says he sounds wonderful and Max nods. More than she can imagine. He says he was involved in helping children who were given up on. Ava touches his hand in a moment of care and Max decides to leave. Ava winds up in tears and apologizes to Shawn's grave.
Ava gets back in her car and calls Patch to say she'll see him soon. She flashes back to making love to Patch and asking him to make an honest woman out of her.
Meanwhile, Hope breaks out of Ava's room but sirens go off when she tries to escape. Angelo grabs her and says she's being naughty. If she gets away, Ava will blame him, and that's not going to happen. He tells her to sit back and relax. "Enjoy the ride, " he says as he touches her, inappropriately…
High Maintenance...
In her room, Ava refuses Hope to use the phone. Hope wonders why Ava's father doesn't kidnap Steve for her but Ava doesn't want to discuss her father. He's out of town anyway and she can get away with anything, since her goons are family and will protect her. They all blame Patch for what happened to her and they want to see him dead, she explains. Ava wants to know her story with Patch so Hope says she met him almost 20 years ago. He had a wild side and it took time but despite obstacles, they fell in love and stayed in love. Ava reminds her that it's impossible since Patch fell for her. Hope tells Ava that everyone thought Steve was dead. That's why they weren't together. She explains he only returned last year, with amnesia due to Stefano DiMera. He didn't know who he was when he was with Ava. When he returned to Salem, he remembered his love for her. Ava fumes after hearing this but Hope doesn't care. She's just as angry if not more. After all, Ava has her held hostage! Ava flashes back to making love to Steve and discussing their wedding. Ava comes back to the present and tells Hope that Patch will love her again as he did once. Hope says that it sounds like she and Steve had happy times and wants her to prove to her that she's going to get him back by calling Steve to set up a meeting.
Steve takes a call from Ava and puts her on speaker phone. He asks to talk to Kayla (Hope) but Ava refuses and says Kayla's fine. She asks to meet him at an old meeting place.
