I'm Shaking in my Boots!

Kayla finds Marlena looking distractedly through files at the hospital nurses station. They discuss the baby and Kayla asks if something is bothering Marlena. Marlena admits there is. "John seems to be spiraling out of control." And she can't do a thing about it. The more she tries to help John, the more defiant he becomes, she says so she is done with him.

Nearby, Daniel yells at a nurse about a patient. Kayla witnesses this and confronts him. She asks him not to yell, but he's too angry to listen and stomps off, only to bump into Chelsea, who is there to see Kate. Daniel can't discuss Kate's case with her, he apologizes. Chelsea asks him to remind her again why he couldn't tell her why he slept with Kate. He didn't want to hurt her, he says. She counters that he didn't want her to know. He'd already hurt her by sleeping with Kate. She wonders. "A man has needs, right?" Daniel tells her that's not it. Daniel says Kate never meant to hurt Chelsea. She doesn't want to hear it and says, "I'll see you around, Daniel," and stomps off.

Daniel apologizes to the nurse he ranted and raved at. The nurse is forgiving and admits she did make a mistake. She gives him Kate's x-rays and says Kayla wanted him to look at them. Once he does, he looks extremely concerned and calls Kate. He tells her they need to decide their next step. She needs to come in.

Pulling the Strings.

Daniel finishes his speech and he and Lexi leave the board meeting. The board deliberates while, outside the boardroom, Daniel cracks jokes about Eleanor being a constipated board member. Lexi knows she has made some mistakes, but Daniel asks her to stay positive. Lexi loves her job, but is having second thoughts, because of the pressure. "I need to be there for my little boy," she says. "Then you know what you have to do," says Daniel. They return to the boardroom and Eleanor is about to tell her that the board voted in her favor, when Lexi resigns as Chief of Staff. The board members are shocked, but she tells them it's best for her and for the hospital. Her focus needs to be on her family and on Theo. She'll continue her practice, with a more flexible schedule. She thanks the board members, but when Eleanor asks her once to reconsider, Lexi refuses to. She has made her decision, and leaves. Once the meeting is adjourned, Victor lectures Daniel about his fling with Kate. "How could you do this?" Daniel doesn't think it's Victor's business, but Victor disagrees. Daniel calls their time together a mistake. "It was only a couple of times." He's not giving up on Chelsea. They argue, but when Victor finds out that Kate is in the hospital, he rushes to her side.

Philip and Lucas sit in the waiting room while Kate is x-rayed. They discuss a surprise for Kate and when Chloe calls, Lucas shuts off his cell. Philip laughs and gives Lucas his blessing to date Chloe. Lucas is thankful, and they discuss how Sami's taking this badly. Lucas wants to be seen as reliable, and mentions he needs a job, so Philip invites him to come back to work at Titan! Lucas accepts, and they set up a laptop, before Kate arrives to her bed. Once Kate arrives, Philip says it's time for a family meeting. Billy's voice and Austin's voice are heard after Philip sets up a three-way chat. Kate is touched. After the chat is over, she tells them their intervention worked. Victor arrives and offers support.

In another area of the hospital, Daniel looks at Kate's x-rays and asks the nurse to get the x-rays to a doctor in Pulmonoligy.

I Quit!

Daniel arrives to the hospital in a dither. He just found out he has to testify at Lexi's board meeting. Lexi is crushed but Daniel thinks this will go in her favor, since he'll give her a good review. Lexi is worried about Eleanor, one of the board members and admits she has fallen behind in her paperwork and protocols. Daniel argues that the day to day performance is what matters. Julie shows up and tells Lexi that both she and Doug are on her side.

Kate and Philip arrive at the hospital. Since all of the other doctors are busy, and Daniel has time before the meeting, he offers to examine Kate. She refuses, but Daniel appeals to Philip and asks him to set aside any animosity he has for him. There was something on Kate's last test that they need to look into. Philip pressures Kate to get more tests and while Daniel examines her, she admits to having shortness of breath, but when she's asked if she has coughed up blood, she denies this. Maxine takes Kate's vitals while Philip asks Daniel what's wrong. Daniel tells him they need more tests and he has to leave for a board meeting but will return shortly.

At Salem PD, Abe shares the news about Lexi's board meeting with Roman, and the men agree that Stefano was to blame for the lockdown, not Lexi. Roman takes a call from the Mayor, who says he's on his way over. When Mayor Mariano arrives, he shows the gentlemen an opinion piece in the paper about the Salem PD's tepid response during the lockdown. Abe and Roman feel they handled the situation properly and Roman reminds the Mayor that they knew Stefano DiMera was in the hospital. Mayor Mariano says there was no evidence that DiMera was involved, but Roman and Abe know better. If there is evidence, the Mayor will send it to the DA himself. Until then, he needs to determine who was most responsible. Abe's anger gets the better of him and he points out that they followed protocol. Mayor Mariano disagrees. He found their attempt half heartedly. Abe has been there for 25 years, and knows what he's doing, but the Mayor thinks the city deserves better. Abe thinks this is the work of Stefano and accuses Mayor Mariano of taking a bribe from Stefano. Roman grins, as though he agrees, but thinks they should take a step back. "How dare you," asks Mariano, astounded by the accusation. Abe knows how Stefano works and is sure Stefano paid off the DA, right up to Mayor Mariano. The Mayor warns Abe. He's treading a thin line. Abe doesn't care. He refuses to be cowardly and intimidated like City Hall. "I'll find a way to get Stefano on my own," he says. Roman asks him not to do this, but it's too late. "Sorry," he says, and takes off his badge and throws it on Roman's desk. "I quit."

Lexi arrives at her board meeting with Julie and greets Victor, Mickey and Doug. They take their seats and the board meeting commences with Eleanor recounting all of the good and bad that Lexi has done for the hospital. She focuses on the negative, saying that Lexi has had cost overruns, outstanding collectibles and says there was no fundraiser this summer, as there is each year. Lexi admits she had no time to work on the fundraiser, and Eleanor barks that she could have contacted the fundraiser committee. That's what they're there for! Eleanor asks straight out if Lexi's personal life got into her position. "Dr Carver was given a position for which she was completely unqualified for," says Eleanor. Daniel arrives and replies, "I couldn't disagree more." He shares that he likes the way things work around here. That says a lot about the person running the show. Eleanor wonders if Theo's recent diagnosis of Autism has affected Lexi's job. Julie doesn't like the line of personal questions and lets it be known while Daniel disagrees that this is the case. Lexi says that though she has been through a lot, her personal life will not affect her position. Daniel calls Lexi compassionate and thinks she's the best person to lead this institution. He calls the hospital fortunate to have her and thinks it'd be a mistake to lose her. Lexi and Daniel are asked to step outside while they deliberate. Once they leave, the board discusses what to do with Lexi.

Glutton For Punishment!

At the Brady Pub, Lexi sits with Theo and another child who asks his mother why Theo never answers him! Lexi explains to the child that sometimes Theo gets too involved with his toys to notice someone talking to him. Lexi explains to the mom that Theo is autistic. Nearby, EJ confronts Nicole about calling the police on Sami. She pretends not to know what he's talking about, but he tells her he knows she's behind it! He asks her to save them both time and explain. She agrees. "Sami is the way she is because people like you keep cleaning up her messes!" Nicole maintains that she needs to pay for her mistakes for once, then maybe she'd stop making them! EJ concedes that Nicole may be right, but it doesn't make it okay for her to call the police on Sami. Nicole gets up and goes to the bar where Dr. Jonas soon appears. "Drinking alone?" They make small talk and she opens up to him about her reasons for staying in Salem. Suddenly she has to excuse herself to go and be sick! EJ heads over to see Lexi and Theo. Lexi lets loose with some of her frustrations about Theo, before asking how things are with EJ - and at the mansion. EJ tells her that Stefano is holed up in his own wing. Lexi wryly notes that he's probably plotting away. She says she needs to go see him, but she is dealing with other things - she confides that she has to go in front of the Review Board. EJ tries to reassure her that everything will be okay. They discuss how Abe is livid about Stefano being out free. She mentions that John backed out of pressing charges. As they talk, Theo repeatedly throws a spoon on the floor. When Lexi finally takes it away, Theo becomes extremely agitated!

Nicole returns from the ladies' room looking strangely at the upset Theo as she passes. Daniel explains to her that Theo has autism. She admits that she was sick and Daniel says if it keeps up she should come by for tests. They get back to discussing their reasons for staying in Salem. She says she has a guy, he admits that he is staying because of a girl, but they hit a roadblock and she went to France. She asks if it's Chelsea Brady. He concedes that it is. She asks what happened, but he won't discuss it. He then asks Nicole if EJ is the guy she's in love with - she's been staring at him! Nicole admits it, but tells Daniel that EJ is still hung up on his ex. He encourages her to hang in there. Over at Lexi's table, she explains to EJ that Theo misses Chelsea, that's why he is throwing the spoon. They talk about Johnny, and then Sami. He tells Lexi about what happened with Allie - he points out that Sami is reckless and he's worried, but he still cares about her. Lexi calls him a glutton for punishment. She talks to him about someday finding happiness with someone else. "Isn't there someone else you would like to get involved with?" He looks over at the bar. Lexi says, "Nicole." EJ says in some ways he and Nicole are kindred spirits. He tells Lexi how Nicole called the police on Sami in order to cause problems between him and Sami. Lexi notes that she doesn't trust Nicole, but she hopes that she will get him to stop chasing Sami! EJ turns his attention to Theo and his toy truck. Lexi watches and tells him that he's good with him. EJ says he has to go. Lexi tells him not to sell himself short.

The Dr. Phil Thing's Not Working!

Morgan and Philip arrive at the hospital, still arguing about her father. He tells her that her father was weak and that's why he's in the position he's in! Just then, Kate appears, sighs, and makes a rude remark about Philip being with 'her' again. Philip warns his mother to stop, but Morgan tells her not to worry - there is nothing between her and Philip and there won't be ever again! Kate asks what he's doing there, and he tells her that Daniel called - he's worried about her. Talk turns back to his romantic life and he laments that when it comes to him and Lucas, no one is ever good enough for them - ever! Daniel interrupts their argument and says he thought Philip might be able to convince her to get the x-ray. She says she doesn't need either one of them to tell her what to do, then dissolves into a coughing fit again! When Philip tries to talk to her about her health, she promises not to interfere in his love life again. As he tries to steer the conversation toward her health again, she diverts his attention by hinting at a relationship between her and Daniel! Philip is flabbergasted. Kate makes this her excuse for leaving. Philip turns to Daniel and questions what he was thinking! Daniel says he never meant to hurt anyone. Philip is left in disbelief. Morgan comes over. "I couldn't help overhearing. Sorry." Philip takes her sympathy as a cue to tell her how good they could be together. She gives in, and they kiss.
