Show Me the Money!

Outside, by the pool at the Kiriakis mansion, Kate rants to her assistant on the phone, when she's surprised by a dripping and half naked Daniel, who has just come from the pool. They discuss Chelsea and how Kate thinks they're on their way to reconciliation. When Kate says she is feeling optimistic about the biopsy results, Daniel's face falls. He has no news for her yet and he'd like Kate to be prepared for whatever happens. Kate wants to seize the day, so they agree to split a bottle of wine. The lab calls and the results are inconclusive. The tissue showed no signs of malignancy, but that doesn't mean she is free of cancer. Kate tells him that having him there has helped her. She thinks it's true. When you face mortality, you appreciate things more. She trails her fingers though his chest hair as she tells him that the thought of wasting time and passing up happiness doesn't make sense. They move in and kiss, passionately, then have sex. He holds her hand and snuggles her close as he tells her to remember that he's with her every step of the way. They start kissing again.

EJ, I'm pregnant....

Chelsea finds Daniel at the hospital and he asks her to find Kate and get her back to the hospital as soon as possible. Her life might depend on it. He knows Chelsea knows a little about what's going on with Kate and tells Chelsea that he can't discuss the case, but asks her again to find Kate and bring her back. Theo interrupts and shows Chelsea his horse. "Zoo," he says. Chelsea is puzzled, and Daniel calls Lexi to tell Lexi that Theo is well and at the hospital. Abe and Lexi share a big hug and cry in relief! Meanwhile, as Chelsea tries to find out where Abe and Lexi are, Daniel returns to the room to explain what happened. Chelsea asks why Theo came to the hospital. "Don’t tell me you came here to see me," she says. Theo nods, and hugs her and she makes him promise not to do this again. He says, "Okay," then Lexi and Abe rush into the room and grab him. Hugs ensue, and they leave. Daniel tells Chelsea that she has a connection with Theo that nobody else has. When Daniel calls her incredible, Chelsea becomes uncomfortable. "Can't we be friends," asks Daniel, but Chelsea doesn’t think so. "You slept with Kate," she says and tells them they've beat this dead horse already. He never meant to hurt her, he says, and Chelsea tells him she can't be friends with someone she doesn't trust. It never would have worked out, anyway. "We're in different places and want different things." She has moved on and tells him he should as well.

Sweet Southern Squeeze

After Kate's biopsy, Kate tries to leave the hospital but Daniel stops her. When she starts to cough, she gets back into bed and allows Daniel to give her oxygen. She'd like an official diagnosis, and Daniel says they'll know, soon. According to the literature she has on lung cancer, she may not have much time, but he argues that it's not always the case. She doesn't want to spend her time in the hospital, she yells. She's launching a new line of cookware today and needs to be at work! Daniel tells her to delegate, and goes off to check on her biopsy results. After he's gone, Kate gets up to leave, but Daniel returns and catches her. She won't stay, so he asks to get her a portable oxygen mask, but she refuses and storms out. "If you find something out, call me," she says, between coughs.

It's a Sleepover!

Lucas arrives at Kate's bedside in the hospital. She tells him and Philip, who is also there, that there was an abnormality on her lung x-ray. She informs them it could be lung cancer, but says Daniel will know better after he does the biopsy. Philip explodes. "I don't want Daniel Jonas anywhere near you!" Philip starts hollering for 'Dr. Jonas', but Kate tells him to stop. She asks why he's so upset, and he explains that he shouldn't have told her she had cancer when he wasn't sure! "You don't do that!" Kate tells Lucas and Philip that she loves them and it's okay to be scared - but she's going to fight this with all she has. "I have so much to live for." Philip jokes that they need her to tell them when they're screwing up. She laughs, then somberly says she may need the roles to reverse - she may need them now. They vow to be there for her.

Daniel comes into Kate's room to prep her for surgery and Philip gets in his face. "Why are you involved here?" Daniel says he cares, but Philip insists he needs someone unbiased. He tells Daniel to keep away from his mother! Dr. Jonas informs Philip that that is Kate's decision. Lucas tells Philip to calm down, but he continues to spout off about how Daniel ruined Kate's relationship with Chelsea. Kate steps in then, and tells Philip that he is acting like she is a child - and her medical care is her business. "I want Daniel to oversee my case, because I know he's the best and will do everything he can to get me better!" Kate apologizes to Daniel for Philip's behavior, and Philip also gets humble. Daniel goes out, and Kate tells her boys it's time for them to leave too. The doctor comes in to put her under, and Daniel comes to her bedside. She tells him that she is glad he's there.

A Little Outpatient Surgery...

At the hospital, Daniel tells Kate that the suspicious mass on her x-ray gave them no choice but to do this biopsy. He tells her the success depends on where the tumor is and the doctor's ability to remove it all. Dr. Falk is the best doctor there is in his specialty, he says and asks if he can call family for her. She prefers to wait until she has answers and he says he cleared his schedule. He'll assist in OR. "No, you're not." He cares about her, he says but Kate thinks that's the problem. Daniel is keeping feelings aside.

Back at the hospital, Daniel says, this is professional and he's the best doctor for her. Kate points out that he had issues in his past with a woman with cancer and she worries it's what she has, and that he's anxious to tell her that's what she has. He has hopes she's fine, and will be the one to tell her so, if it turns out she is healthy. Kate agrees to allow it, considering she can't do much about it and Daniel says, "That's my girl." Kate retorts, "I'm really not, you know." Philip arrives and asks what's going on. Daniel leaves while Kate says, "I'm having a little outpatient surgery." She doesn't want to worry him. Lucas arrives and asks what's up. She asks why he's there and he tells her he brought Sami in, but she's fine. Kate tells them she's having a biopsy on her lungs and she may have lung cancer.

You're Pregnant... Nicole!

At the hospital, Daniel tells Kate he's not positive she has lung cancer and needs a biopsy. Kate's shocked and tells him she doesn't smoke. Shame that non-smokers account for 20% of all those with lung cancer. He hopes it's in the early stages, if she has it. She agrees to schedule the tests and asks that he keep quiet until they know what it is, definitely. Daniel is called away.

Daniel finds Nicole, leaning over the nurse's station feeling ill. Kate comes out of her room and asks what's wrong with Nicole. "What's wrong, did you run out of alcohol?" She walks away and Daniel says Kate makes a point. Nicole looks like she's going through the DTs. (Alcohol withdrawal.) Nicole tells Daniel she needs a drink- stat!

Daniel returns to Nicole in the trauma center. She moans that she needs a shot of booze. He tells her this is a fresh start for her. He's not sure it's Caroline's clam chowder, as she thinks, but they need to wait for the rest of the test results to come back. Nicole asks him about Chelsea. He shares that nothing has changed and asks about her own crisis. She tells him that Victor found out her marriage [to Trent] and their marriage is null and void. She has to pay back the money from the settlement. Daniel apologizes and she comments that at least someone is. Victor's ecstatic. Daniel goes to check on her tests. "Burn in hell, Trent," Nicole says, once he leaves.

Daniel calls Kate, who is already at a dinner meeting. She brushes him off and promises to schedule her biopsy later.

Daniel goes back to Nicole and she's writing a list of items to sell. Daniel asks if she's going to fight for her settlement. She is, but she's preparing for the worst. He knows what's making her nauseous. "You're pregnant." Nicole is shocked. "You've got to be kidding me."

A Person in the Trees!

At the hospital, Daniel tries to get a word in edgewise with Kate. He finally gets her attention. "You are coughing up blood, which is the sign of a serious illness!" She gets in a huff and asks what is wrong with her then. He admits he hasn't figured that out yet. Kate says it's probably just bad allergies. Suddenly Chelsea appears. She accuses Kate of being willing to do anything to stay close to Daniel! Daniel tries to explain that there really is something wrong, but Kate interrupts before he can. She says they have told her everything about their 'relationship' and it's over. "You need to deal with that." Chelsea wants to know why he called Kate then to talk about the next step. Daniel says she's completely misunderstood! Kate asks Daniel to leave. As she coughs, she explains that there is something wrong - that's why Daniel is wanting to run tests. Chelsea sighs, "I don't want you to be sick." Kate asks her to cut her some slack. She says she'd never hurt her intentionally, and reiterates that she is sorry. "Maybe it's time for you to start thinking about second chances." Chelsea says she can't get over it, and walks away, but she stops when she hears Kate coughing. Kate tells Chelsea that she knows she still has feelings for Daniel. She offers not to see him anymore as a patient, but Chelsea says nothing she does will change things and leaves. Daniel returns and has to break the news to Kate that she has lung cancer!
