DR. DANIEL JONAS'S HISTORY
Dr. Daniel Jonas comes to Salem March 4 2008. Victor Kiriakis calls upon his expertise in dealing with Bo Brady's illness (pancreatic failure).
With Bo's daughter, Chelsea, as the donor, Dr. Daniel performed a risky pancreatic transplant that saved Bo's life. Soon, Daniel realized that Chelsea developed a crush on him, but he tried to stay away from her. When pursued and questioned by Chelsea, Daniel finally revealed that he feared getting close to a patient because he might lose them, just as he lost his wife when she died from cancer. Chelsea made him see that that wouldn't happen with them and Daniel finally gave in to his feelings for Chelsea. Daniel faced scrutiny from Bo and Victor, especially about the age difference between he and Chelsea, but they dated anyway. Their relationship ended when Chelsea found out that Daniel and Kate had slept together before they started dating. Chelsea couldn't forgive Daniel and though he tried to stay away from Kate, he couldn't deny his attraction to her.
When he saw that Kate had a bad cough, he suggested that she have tests done, but Kate insisted that it was just a cough. Daniel sought Chelsea for help to convince Kate to see a doctor and Kate finally agreed. She had tests done, including a lung biopsy, which revealed that she had lung cancer. When the truth about their relationship first came out, Kate's sons, Philip and Lucas, insisted that Kate get a different doctor. Later they all agreed to do the best thing for Kate, even if that meant Daniel treating her.
Dr. Daniel Jonas is currently treating Kate for her recent diagnosis of lung cancer. He is caught between his feelings for her and his fears of the past repeating itself.

Thursday, January 08 2009: There is No Us!
Kate goes to Daniel at the hospital to invite him to the engagement party, but Daniel’s very uncomfortable. Kate assumes it has something to do with Chloe, but Daniel denies this. Kate’s not buying it and tells him he’s a part of their family and their lives, just as much as Chloe. She again asks him to the party.
Daniel arrives at the Kiriakis mansion and Kate’s happy he came. Lucas is puzzled. Why wouldn’t Daniel come? Kate tells him that she and Daniel are no longer seeing one another, so Lucas hits Daniel! Daniel goes down and Kate blasts Lucas, telling him that it’s not his fault.
Daniel goes to Chloe’s room. She and zipping up her dress and is surprised. She notices his face and asks what happened. He says not to worry. He didn’t tell Lucas about them. “There is no us,” she tells him and Daniel helps her zip up and tells him something happened today that made him realize she doesn’t have to marry a man she doesn’t love with her whole heart. Chloe thinks it’s cruel to break Lucas or Kate’s heart and she loves Lucas. Daniel wonders, “And you feel nothing for me?” Chloe doesn’t answer.
Wednesday, January 07 2009: The Fraud Continues!
At the hospital, Stefano asks Daniel for the straight skinny on Theo's condition. Dr. Jonas tells DiMera that if they don't perform this procedure on Theo - he will die! Lexi tells him to do whatever he has to do, as Hope and Bo look on. Abe arrives and Lexi tells him it's all her fault. Abe asks Lexi to be kind to herself.
Abe reassures Lexi at the hospital, noting that she has great faith in Daniel. Abe goes for coffee and Stefano tells Lexi that he is flying in another doctor. Lexi says she doesn't want another doctor. Stefano says he had to do something - he's going crazy worrying about Theo. Lexi asks Stefano to leave! She says that he is part of the reason that this happened. Just when Stefano is protesting that Theo needs them all praying for him, Daniel walks out. Everyone is relieved when he announces that Theo survived surgery! Abe and Lexi embrace, and she asks him if he can forgive her. Abe says she has to stop thinking that everything is her fault. EJ arrives and hugs Lexi. Abe goes to call Bo and Hope. Lexi tells EJ to go home and take his little boy in his arms. EJ hugs her again, then leaves. Daniel comes over, and Lexi says this incident proves you should express your love to the people who matter to you, while you have the chance! Lexi and Abe go in to see Theo.
Kate arrives at the hospital to see Daniel. He fills her in about Theo and says the surgery was a success. Kate says her invitation seems inappropriate right now, but she is giving a party for Chloe and Lucas at the Kiriakis Mansion tonight - and she'd like him to be there.
