In the cockpit, John suggests dumping the fuel but Steve reminds him he has a plane full of family and friends. The pilots make a big show of drinking water from the same bottle. Nothing seems to be going well for them so John tells Steve to give the family the bad news. They'll be up there for a while.
Steve goes into the cabin and tells the freezing, huddling family that they've no radio, no instruments, no controls and they're losing cabin pressure. They start to panic and Steve says John's in the co-pilot seat, he has the two pilots with him and they're going to try to land safely. Belle asks how it happened but all Steve knows is that they had some electronic issue. Philip seeks survival supplies and when John comes out of the cockpit, Marlena asks if they can make it, he is optimistic and thinks if they try to descend safely to a warmer altitude, it may help. John can keep the plane in the air for two hours but he isn't sure how long they can stand it. He comments that they're already at 32,000 feet and there isn't a lot of oxygen at this altitude. Chloe starts to hyperventilate and John says they need to go down 10,000 feet in order to breathe. Shawn yells for John to figure something out for them and Marlena gives orders for everyone to bundle up.
John goes into the cockpit, where the pilots are both asleep! "Fine time for a siesta, gentlemen," he says.
On the jet, Kayla and Steve worry about what'll happen to Stephanie if they crash. John comes out of the cockpit and calls Marlena to the cockpit to show her that the pilots are out cold. She gets her bag and examines them and finds their pulses are slow. She asks if they'd been drinking. John says just water and Marlena finds the water bottle they'd been sharing to have residue in the bottom. John asks if they were poisoned, but Marlena isn't sure and tells him he has to land the plane for them. She guesses the residue is a narcotic but she can't give them anything for it because if she does, they could die. John asks her to help him fly the plane. Marlena has faith in him but John tells her not to be impressed until her feet are on solid ground. She ponders who drugged the pilots and damaged the plane and John starts to calculate how much fuel vs flying time they have and thinks he has figured out a way to save them!
In the cabin of the jet, Bo checks on Shawn Sr., who is resting his eyes. Belle tells Shawn that Claire is asleep and Philip holds a shaking Chloe close. Marlena comes out of the cockpit and tells them that John may be able to land the plane on land. She explains that the pilots are unconscious - drugged, and is sure it was the same person who tampered with the plane. "This was no accident," she says and tells them they have little oxygen. She drops the oxygen masks and John tells them that as far as he can tell, they'll be up there until they run out of fuel… then they'll join Santo and Colleen in the sweet hereafter.
In the cabin, on John's jet, Shawn reassures Claire that the jet won't crash, after their bout of turbulence. Philip also comforts Chloe and when John seems to remember a lot about how turbulence happens, Marlena comments on how his memory seems to come and go. He agrees and wonders why he knew all that. "You were a pilot," she tells him, so he goes to the cabin to find out what's going on and the pilot says there is a malfunction with the aircraft. Chloe continues to worry about Brady and about the turbulence they're experiencing and Philip tells her he has faith in John's pilots with whom he has been flying with for years, and has faith that Brady is okay. Steve notices that Shawn Sr. appears tired. He asks him to rest his eyes. Kayla says it's been a weird flight and again comments on why Steve got off the plane, earlier. Steve takes her had to put her at ease. Marlena tells Hope that John went to talk to the pilot to see if they can fly around the turbulence. Hope is stressed out and asks Bo about how his back is doing. Marlena admits he does look pale. Hope excuses herself and leaves the two talking and Bo admits he has some bad news to share with Hope but isn't sure how to. Marlena offers him help but Bo says soon he'll require her help but for now he wants to keep it to himself. Hope sits with Belle, Shawn and Claire and tells Claire how brave she's being. Belle comments that Marlena and Bo are in a deep discussion and Hope excuses herself and goes to Kayla. She wants to know what Kayla and Steve are keeping from her! They don't say but Kayla tells her everything will be okay. Hope is satisfied with this for now and goes back to her seat.
In the cockpit, John tells the pilots he's sure they'll do their best. "I have my family back there," he says. He soon realizes in surprise, what he has said and pauses momentarily. He takes the pilot's seat and wants to land the plane in Reykjavik Iceland. The pilot calls to Reykjavik on the radio, "This is HT439…." Nobody answers. "Perfect," says John. "This is just perfect." John closes his eyes and starts to remember a few things about being a pilot while Belle and Shawn try to take Claire's mind off the turbulence and the cold. Shawn compliments Belle and says their daughter looks just like her - beautiful! "She has your smile and dimples," he notices, grinning. Chloe and Philip discuss how many times they have been in love and she notices he uses the past tense on his feelings for Belle.
John comes into the cabin to ask if anyone has a signal on their cell phones. He needs their cell to use as a radio. Shawn Sr. calls out Caroline's name and Kayla reminds him she's not there, while John considers that they are too far from the mainland to get a cell signal. He lies that it's no big deal and the passengers all complain about how cold it's getting.
Back in the cockpit, the pilot tells John they're losing cabin pressure. John goes into the cabin to tell everyone to put their coats on until they get it all under control. Philip gets blankets for all and snuggles close to Chloe. Bo tells Hope he's chilly but jokes that he'd like any excuse to cuddle with her. This doesn't alleviate Hope's concerns and she worries about crashing. Shawn and Belle continue to keep Claire's spirits up and get her to think of a warm day at the beach, to take her mind away.
In the cockpit, John tells the pilot to descend to a lower altitude and asks to take the pilot's right seat. They discuss what could have gone wrong as John takes control of the plane. "Let's see what I can remember," he says, nervously. Steve arrives in the cockpit to ask what's happening and overhears that they've lost their gages. John thinks they should dump the fuel but Steve argues with him not to do it. John tells Steve to give everyone the news - they'll be up there for a while and it's going to get a lot colder. Steve goes out and tells the family, they're losing cabin pressure; they've no instruments, no controls and the family becomes more anxious.
Hope and Bo lead Shawn Sr. on John's jet. Shawn Sr. frets over leaving Colleen behind and Bo feigns checking his messages when he has pain in his stomach area. Shawn, Belle, Claire, Chloe and Philip arrive and Chloe tells Phil how upset she is over not finding Brady. Kayla and Steve arrive, but when Steve notices the mysterious woman on the ground below, he dashes off the plane after her leaving Kayla puzzled. John and Marlena arrive and John calls to the pilot to get them off the ground. The plane needs to be de-iced, so they need to wait. John reads, Soldiers and Commanders while Marlena asks how John's doing. She thinks he's sad. "I don't do sad," he replies. She reminds him his mother just died and he says not by his hand. He says he feels it's over - he didn't have to hurt her so he wonders why he should feel sad. "Because she was a good woman and she loved you," Marlena says and wonders why he lingered after the spreading of the ashes. He says he thought he saw Colleen meet Santo DiMera in an apparition but doesn’t want to discuss it. He assumes it was a hallucination.
Marlena goes to check on Shawn and shares John's 'hallucination' with them. Marlena thinks they found peace in the afterlife. Shawn thinks that's a lovely thing to say. John tells the gang that they're ready for takeoff and they take their seats. Steve refuses to tell Kay about why he got off the plane and instead lies that he forgot his cell phone below. Kayla does not trust or believe in him and continues to pressure him for the 'real' reason why he left. Outside the plane, we see the mysterious woman. Steve tries to get her to relax and check on Shawn who is trying to stay strong. Shawn tells the two that he missed a lot of years with Colleen but Steve says it's the last few days that mattered.
In their seats, Bo and Hope have a strange conversation where Bo appears to want to tell Hope about his condidtion. Since he doesn't know much about it, he tells her that Kayla came to Ireland not just to bring Pop, but for another reason. Hope is a little frustrated and implores him to tell her what's on his mind but he simply asks her to trust him!! "You're asking a lot," she says, with a sigh. Hope comments she hasn't been able to eat in days. Bo worries about her not sleeping or eating but Hope says she'll be fine once she's home with Caroline's chowder!
Philip catches Chloe deep in thought about Brady. He comments that he thinks it's a matter of time before Victor finds Brady but Chloe says she'll still worry. Philip asks if she'll divorce Brady upon his return but Chloe isn't sure. She reaches for his hand and strokes it.
Belle visits Colleen and tells her she just got word that they're related. Colleen is in good spirits. Belle is emotional as she tells her she can't believe she's her grandmother. Colleen tells her it means a lot to be with her, since she's been watching over her for so long. Belle asks if she's coming home with them but her home is in Ireland. Belle says she barely knows her but she'll miss her. Colleen has a present for her. She gives her the symbol of the Celtic Woman Warrior which she calls a symbol for never giving up. She wants her to pass it on to her child someday. Belle gives her a hug and the tears flow freely.
A knock on the door brings Shawn and Hope and Belle leave with Claire. Shawn is sorry for all the time they lost but says he could never hate her. Belle wants her to return to Salem with them but Colleen isn't going anywhere. She says she's glad he's with her for the end. "I'm dying," she tells her brother. Shawn is upset and wonders how they can help but Colleen just wants her family one last time.
Shawn puts Claire to bed and thanks God for her return. He flashes back to her abduction and to visiting Belle in the hospital. Belle arrives and Shawn flashes back to sitting downstairs at the pub with her and telling her he wants to focus on family and Colleen for now and not get into their issues. Shawn admits to Belle that he thinks something's off about Steve and Kayla's visit. Belle thinks he needs to take a breather from his concern for Claire and thinks Kayla and Steve showed up to bring grandpa Shawn.
Shawn and Belle sit at the Aubin pub with Claire and fawn over how happy they are to see her. Belle wants to discuss the future but agrees now may not be the time. Kayla and Steve arrive with Shawn Sr., who is using a cane to get around. He's thrilled to see Claire and gives her a big kiss. Steve tells him they've a big surprise for him but he has to rest first. Shawn goes up to a room while Steve tells Kayla that Shawn is looking frail. He's worried about his reaction to seeing his sister. They blame Stefano.
Shawn, Belle and Claire leave the Aubin pub and bump into Philip and Chloe. Philip asks after Claire and Belle admits that Crystal surprisingly took good care of Claire. Chloe and Philip are relieved. Belle wonders if Colleen knows anything about Brady but Chloe doubts it. Chloe and Philip don't want to get in the way when Shawn Sr. sees Colleen, so they let Shawn and Belle know they won't be around but would like to have a late dinner with them. Shawn and Belle don't commit themselves to it and appear disinterested. They head out for a walk with Claire, and when they're gone, Chloe comments, "That didn't go well!"
Everyone gathers outside Colleen's door and Shawn Sr. is confused as to why he's there. They take him in to see Colleen and one look at his sister and a shocked Shawn's jaw drops! He cries out, "Leenie? Leenie!" Colleen starts to weep and goes to her brother for a hug. Shawn holds her close as he struggles to believe she's alive. Colleen starts explaining how she wanted everyone to think she was dead and after she left her habit on the cliffs, she ran from the guilt and shame. She knows he always felt responsible and will never be able to forgive herself for that. She says there wasn't a day she didn't think of him. Shawn weeps as he says this is overwhelming. She asks for forgiveness and Shawn already has forgiven her! He just thanks God that she was brought back to him! Kayla stops the conversation and tells Shawn he can visit with Colleen later. He has a hard time tearing himself away from Colleen but agrees to go rest. Bo introduces Steve and Kayla to Colleen and says they've another brother and sister at home. "I know, Roman and Kimberly," she says and thanks them for bringing Shawn. Bo berates her for allowing Shawn to suffer all these years but Colleen says she suffered too but she had to protect him. Kayla tells Colleen about Stefano's catatonia and this relieves Colleen, who tried to keep the Brady's safe. Marlena points out that not all of them are Bradys and Colleen says she tried to keep them all safe. She says she paid for everything by being away from family and John thinks it's her fault. She tells him she senses a lot of pain in him and hopes he finds his son. She asks to rest and asks Kayla to promise to bring Shawn back later. Everyone but John and Marlena leave the room. John asks to speak to Colleen alone but Marlena refuses him. John asks if he can have a word with her a moment and as she turns to the door, John makes his move and smashes her head into the door! Marlena crumbles to the floor, out cold and Colleen gasps in shock. John takes out a knife from his boot and tells Colleen if she makes one sound, he'll kill whoever steps through the door. Colleen gasps, "Why in the name of God are you doing this?"
At the Aubin B&B in New Ross, Ireland, Colleen tells everyone, "It is I, in the flesh as any fool can see!" Hope and Shawn don't think it's possible but Colleen says the wrinkles have changed her. She is proud to know that Samantha is the spitting image of her when she was young! Marlena tells her they've read the letters to Santo and Colleen reminisces about them. She longed for Santo's strong arms around her but had to settle for his words. While his love held him to her, it also tore him from her at the same time. She says what she did was a disgrace to the church, God and her family and that's why she left her habit on the cliff and ran and hid. She did it in order for Santo to go back to his wife and son, after he lied to her and dashed any hope for a future. She says she heard Santo never smiled since then and Stefano bore the brunt of his pain. "For all the days of his life," she finishes. She says she never loved again. Marlena tells Colleen that Stefano hated her for his father's heartbreak. Colleen knows and says she didn't want to be found out so she moved to another part of Ireland, changed her name and took work as a seamstress, then moved to South America and became a clothing designer. With the money she made, she hired help and grew an empire. With the money she made, she searched for relatives and found them in Salem. After finding out what Stefano had done to them she took some responsibility and tried to help. Marlena doesn't blame her. Bo calls Stefano evil and Colleen agrees. She asks for their forgiveness for taking Claire and calls to Crystal, who brings Claire to them. Everyone hugs and kisses Claire and tells her how much they missed her and Colleen smiles as she watches. Unnoticed, John takes out the knife he stole earlier and stares Colleen down. Marlena reminds John that Claire is his granddaughter and asks him to go to her. He does so and Bo berates Colleen for kidnapping Claire but Colleen says she had to protect her and felt the same about Brady Black. Chloe's eyes grow wide and suddenly everyone is quiet. Chloe yells at Colleen to tell her where Brady is but Colleen doesn't know. She wonders if Chloe does, but Chloe denies it and runs off crying. Colleen says they can only pray that no evil befell him, and she sits down to rest. Marlena tells John that Brady's his son but he is disinterested. Outside the room, Chloe sobs for Brady and when Phil tries to comfort her, she pushes him away.
