Philip arrives at Kate’s party. Lucas jokes that he took the term ‘fashionably late’ to the extreme. Philip wonders where Daniel is, and Victor says he’ll return in a moment. Victor is uplifted to see Kate up and around and Philip is encouraged as well, but Kate reminds them she’s not cured yet. Victor sings Daniels’ praises and Philip gives Kate her blessing with Daniel. Kate’s very appreciative, and pulls her son into a hug.
Nearby, Chloe rants to Lucas about how Victor’s treating her. Lucas tells her the only thing that counts is that he loves her. She repeats his words and her mood slightly changes.
Daniel arrives back at the party and Kate tells him this party is as much for him as it is for her. Philip gives Daniel a gift – a beautiful watch that Philip says he bought for his brother, as well. Daniel apologizes, and sadly says he can’t accept it. It’s a job and what he does. He’s thankful, and apologizes for offending Philip. He leaves the two and Philip feels like an idiot. He wanted to do something nice. Kate is sure that Daniel didn’t mean to hurt his feelings and Philip says it’s fine. As long as she’s happy, he’s fine! Philip makes a toast to Kate, and calls her the heart of the family. Daniel frowns as Philip drinks to Kate’s continued health, and Kate catches his eye.
Samantha is my Past....
At the pub, Maggie tells Hope that it was devastating to tell Jessica and Joshua Fallon that their son Nick was arrested for murder. She cries and blames herself for not taking better care of their son. Chelsea asks Bo if Nick can get off easy, but Bo says his behavior after the murder makes things worse. Chelsea wants to visit Nick, but he needs psychiatric help, so she has to wait. Bo says Nick was once obsessed with her, but Chelsea denies it. She says they had a relationship. Talk turns to Kate and Bo asks Chelsea to join in the celebration of Kate’s release from University Hospital. Maggie goes off to stop by Mickey’s office to check on Nick’s defense.
Brady shows up at the pub to Chloe and Lucas’ table. Chloe asks Brady to join them, much to Lucas’ chagrin and Lucas brings up Brady being clean for a year. In a jealous display, Lucas brings up buying the house for him and Chloe. Chloe tells Brady that Kate’s going to arrive for a celebration because she’s being released from the hospital today. “She has cancer.” Brady’s shocked and apologetic toward Lucas. He gets up and takes a call from Nicole, and she tells him that EJ’s on a plane to Argentina and there’s something wrong with the baby. He agrees to go get her and after he leaves, Chloe accuses Lucas of being jealous. They laugh as he admits it, but Chloe calls Brady her past and Lucas her future. They kiss.
Daniel and Kate arrive at the pub to welcoming hugs from Chelsea and Lucas. Chloe welcomes her home. Kate wishes she could have seen Allie, but Daniel says she had a cold, and glares at her. Kate wants to see her tomorrow, on her way to work, but Lucas raises an eyebrow. “Work?” Kate’s kidding. Daniel goes to get more drinks and Lucas ushers Chloe after him, so he can urge Kate not to go back to work so soon.
At the bar, Daniel apologizes to Chelsea for what happened to Nick. Chelsea says it’s ironic. She broke Nick’s heart to be with Daniel and Daniel did the same thing to her! Daniel thought they were past this but Chelsea spits out, “Apparently not!” She storms off.
Later, Daniel and Chloe wind up outside. Chloe calls Chelsea a drama queen, saying she has a history of that herself. Daniel had no idea, but Chloe points out that he doesn’t know her well, though they’re practically family. She goes back inside.
Kate is happy that Chelsea came to her celebration and Chelsea apologizes to her grandmother. She thinks she’s a great person and respects her. Kate feels the same. She knows Chelsea has difficulty forgiving people but Kate says she doesn’t want her to continue with her anger, and blames others because life is too short.
Dream Home.
Chloe arrives at the pub to an excited Lucas who shows her a photo of a five bedroom house with a pool that he put a bid on. He takes her hand and she smiles. He says she’s been a big part of Allie’s life and he sees her as family, though they haven’t discussed marriage yet. He has felt ambivalence on her part and wonders if she doesn’t think he’s committed. He says he is and thinks he’d be a great husband for her. “You will be. I truly believe that,” she says, but she doesn’t sound convincing. She admits she saw Brady in Salem. Lucas is surprised and thinks it’s great. Chloe says he’s been clean for almost a year. Lucas asks if she’s going to leave him and go back to Brady but that’s not what she’s saying. Seeing Brady made her realize how lucky she is to have Lucas. Lucas is happy to hear this and leans in for a kiss.
Lucas and Chloe visit with Kate at the hospital, as Kate listens to David Bowie on her iPod. She feels good, though the treatment was rough, and thanks both Lucas and Chloe for their support. Daniel arrives with the test results and says it was a success and the tumor has shrunk! Kate shares her happiness with Chloe and Lucas and Daniel tells them to enjoy their visit. He’ll go over what comes next, later. He leaves the room and seems troubled. Chloe leaves the two alone, saying she’ll go get Allie another picture book and will return later. After she leaves, Lucas comments on how things have improved with she and Chloe. Kate says Chloe has been kind and she makes him happy. “My feelings towards her have changed…slightly,” she says. He shows her a photo of the house he plans to purchase. It’s his dream home. Kate doesn’t want him to move too fast. Lucas plans on asking Chloe to marry him, much to Kate’s shock. She says she’s happy for him if this is what he wants. Lucas hugs her – he wants her at his wedding! That’s what Kate wants but she just wants Lucas to be cautious. Lucas loves Chloe unlike anyone he has ever loved before. She talks about love and Lucas tells her he has a good feeling she’ll have that.
Daniel paces the park where Chloe finds him. She notices his mood and asks if he’s all right. He chalks it up to a long day, but Chloe sees through him. It can’t be about Kate, she comments but wonders if he’s keeping a secret about her cancer. Daniel downplayed how successful the results were. He’s supposed to be detached but he becomes emotionally involved. He’s working on it but Kate’s not another patient. He sees this as a personal failure that he can’t detach. He felt anxious because he can’t tell Kate she’s cured, either. He asks for a huge favor and asks Chloe not to tell Lucas about their talk.
Be Prepared!
Chloe pokes around in her purse for money to pay Pete for her take-out when Brady arrives. "This should cover it," he says and Chloe spins around. "Brady!" He tells her he has finished treatment and came back to see her. She is surprised and he says he wanted to sort out what was their marriage. Chloe says she was self-consumed and he got into drugs. She's gotten past the anger but he hasn't gotten past the guilt. He remembers his commitment to her to make her happy and he failed. "I will never forgive myself for that. I was just hoping you can." Chloe reminds him that it's not all his fault. She knew he wasn't happy living in Europe. Brady counters that he should have supported her! He has lost the one person he cared for the most. Chloe cries that she should have helped steer him away from hurting himself. They realize they've matured and they decide to forgive each other. Chloe forgives him for giving up on their marriage. She takes his hand and asks for forgiveness in abandoning him when he needed her most. Brady forgives her and holds her as she cries. He says he's not sure he's back in Salem for good and heard from Marlena that Sami's in witness protection. Chloe says it's sad, she's away from family and her kids but her heart's not breaking. He asks if she and Lucas are taking care of Allie and Chloe apologizes that she should have told him. He wants to know if she's happy. "Lucas and I get along really well, "she says and asks about John. He shares how things went badly. She mentions how John and Nicole are friends and how she and Nicole are friends, too. Brady laughs and thinks she is kidding but she explains Nicole has changed!
Chloe arrives at the hospital to ask Daniel how Kate is. She can't receive visitors he says and Daniel smiles. Kate told him about Chloe's visit and how it inspired her to take the risk and go aggressive. Chloe was glad to help and calls Kate a good person - a great mother. Daniel thanks her and gets a call and leaves.
Control Freak!
At the hospital, Daniel explains to Philip, Lucas and Chloe that Kate's become anemic and that it's a critical time for Kate, who asked to see them. Philip and Lucas beg Daniel to stop the chemotherapy but Daniel explains she'll only get worse after a few days. She needs to make her own decision about her treatment. The men step outside as Chloe sits with Kate and tells her that her sons love her so. "That's a credit to you. Your big heart." She gets emotional as she tells Kate that her sons want the doctors to ease up. Chloe knows Kate's a fighter and she knows what it takes to beat this thing. She urges her not to give up on the treatment. "It's your only hope," she says, brushing her tears away. She tells an unconscious Kate of how she wanted to let go during chemo, but she knew her family needed her, just as Kate's family needs her! Kate wakes up and thanks Chloe for the pep talk.
Chloe leaves Kate's room and tells the men that Kate's awake. They all pile into her room and she tells them she's felt better. They express how they want her to quit chemo, but she refuses. She feels it's her only chance, so they decide to stick by her.
In the hall, Daniel goes to Chloe and realizes that she talked to Kate. He thanks her.
Acquired Taste!
Daniel finds Chloe working out at the gym and helps her fix her form with using weights. Chloe is surprised. "Is there anything you don't know how to do?" He tells her, "Opera singing!" They discuss Kate and how Chloe thinks she's lucky to have him as her doctor, until Philip interrupts. "Maybe not!" Philip thinks that Daniel is abandoning Kate, who is having terrible side effects from the chemo. Daniel reminds him that they knew this would happen and says Dr. Knapp is taking over for him so he can have a break. Chloe takes Philip aside and tells him Daniel's doing the best he can and that he's an excellent doctor and if Kate trusts him, that should be worth something. She encourages him to apologize to Daniel, so he does. When Philip goes off to take a call, Chloe goes to Daniel and says he doesn't understand the randomness of life-threatening illnesses. He can't get used to this. Chloe asks, "You really love her, don't you?" Later, Chloe tells him she was out of line for asking and thanks him for being so nice to Philip. Daniel calls his relationship with Kate complicated. She calls her situation very domestic and different. "Life is good," she grins, but Daniel asks, "But not great?" Chloe says she's lucky to have both Lucas and Allie, but admits sometimes she misses traveling. She had an exciting life in Europe that was a little lonely, but always exciting! She misses singing, but Daniel thinks she could have the best of both worlds. He misses the ocean and surfing and says surfing is in his blood. "So you're saying we can have our cake and eat it too?" Daniel replies, "Damned right!" Lucas wouldn't want her to give up her dream. Chloe smiles. Nicole would say the same thing. They discuss how Nicole's in jail for Trent's murder but Chloe knows she's innocent. Nicole's kind and caring and important to her. Chloe admits she's not exactly Ms. Popularity, but Daniel says maybe she's an acquired taste and tells her that's a compliment. "So are you by any chance airing the taste," she asks. Daniel says, "Definitely." Chloe calls this good for her ego, but Kate wouldn't like it. Daniel says he'll try to talk to Kate about her. Chloe's thankful.
Two Tigers and a Ball of Twine.
Kate paints her fingernails as Daniel looks over her chart. She recalls the first time she painted them and how sophisticated she felt. Daniel says she has another half hour of Chemo. Kate's tired, so Daniel leaves her. Kate reads and a nurse interrupts.
Outside her room, Chloe and Lucas arrive and Lucas has questions for Daniel. He wonders what Kate's odds are at beating this. He knows that it depends on early detection and how the patient responds to treatment. Daniel agrees that's true but isn't sure about her odds. There are too many variables, he tells Lucas and Chloe, but admits the odds aren't good, but Kate has a lot to live for and is going through an aggressive treatment. "It's her best chance to survive," he says and invites Lucas to call him anytime to discuss it. Chloe supports Lucas and thinks Kate will get through this. They hug, and when the nurse leaves Kate's room, Lucas goes in alone, to see her.
In her room, Kate continues to read until Lucas arrives. She welcomes him to the penthouse and laughs. She says it's feeling like a mini-vacation, but Lucas thinks she's trying to prove how strong she is. He asks her to use her energy to fight. He returns to Chloe and asks if she'd talk to his mother about fighting cancer while he goes to the gift shop to get her a present. Chloe's skeptical that Kate will want to see her but agrees to it. She goes inside, but Kate tells her to get out! Chloe cares for Lucas and knows she means a lot to him. She was happy to come in here, she says. Kate apologizes for being so rude and admits she cares more about her kids than herself, probably. Since her illness will be the hardest on Lucas, she'd like to call a truce. She still hasn't forgiven her for breaking Philip's heart. Chloe says that's fine and once she leaves, she stands outside Kate's door, taking deep breaths. Daniel comes upon her. "Are you alright?" She confesses she's a cancer survivor and still takes anti-rejection drugs. She still feels she's on borrowed time. Lucas arrives and they're set to take Allie out trick-or-treating. They plan to take photos for Kate. Daniel asks if they'll return tomorrow and give Kate time to rest this evening. Chloe thanks Daniel for the talk and they leave.
Daniel goes to Kate with the magazine Lucas purchased for her and lies on her bed and visits.
