Lucas and Chloe walk through the park and Chloe alludes to the fact that after their surgery, they can’t... (make love). Lucas feigns innocence and asks her to show him what she means, so she kisses him, passionately.
Hysterical Feminism.
In Kate’s hospital room, Kate tells Chloe that she knows she’d help her if she could. Kate asks for Daniel, but they haven’t seen him. Kate thinks he’s finding it hard to face her. Lucas gives Kate one of Will’s first art projects, which is a plaster cast imprint of his hand, when he was young. Kate tells Chloe that there was a time when she and Lucas didn’t get along. Chloe had no idea. Kate says she knows when Lucas is hiding something, so Lucas comes clean and tells Kate about the engagement. Kate thought it was something like that. An upset Chloe runs out, giving them time alone. Chloe returns and Kate asks her not to presume to know what she was thinking. She admits she was overwhelmed but is in a position to look at the bigger picture. She can’t micromanage her sons' lives. She can see that Chloe makes Lucas happy and thanks her! Chloe is relieved and Daniel, who has been on the computer in the lounge, looking for a way to save Kate, arrives with a way for Kate to get the marrow transplant from Chloe. He has a colleague who might have a way to treat Chloe’s marrow and blood to be transplanted to Kate. The issues are that not only hasn’t it been approved yet, it could cause considerable risks. Kate can’t risk this and asks Lucas to go. Chloe tells Kate that she can’t force her to accept the donation, but she can’t stop her from making it. Kate grins and calls Chloe a venerable woman. “That means you’re one tough cookie,” says Lucas. Chloe and Daniel leave and Kate tries to talk Lucas out of doing this. It’ll compromise her immune system. Lucas reminds her that Daniel can be trusted.
Outside Kate's room, Daniel counsels Chloe to talk to her oncologist before she makes any decision but Chloe has made her decision. Still, she says she will discuss it with the oncologist.
I Know What I Want for Christmas!
Lucas ends a call in the park and tells Chloe that Austin and Will’s results are being sent over, as are Billie’s. Chloe is happy to hear and knows how hard it is to wait for a match. Lucas knows that 70% of all patients don’t find matches within their family. Chloe asks him not to show Kate he’s afraid. Lucas changes the subject and kisses Chloe.
Chloe and Lucas wind up in bed, basking in the afterglow at the cabin and Lucas is sorry that this engagement isn’t a happier time for her, but Chloe is understanding and glad to have a happy secret. Lucas is thrilled with the happy spin she puts on everything. Chloe says how much she’s looking forward to their future, which leads to more love making.
Philip returns to Kate’s room when the results are in. Kate asks him to call Lucas, so he leaves the room and calls Lucas, interrupting Chloe and Lucas’ love making to tell him the results are in. Lucas says they’ll be right there, so they get up.
Chloe and Lucas arrive at Kate’s room and Chelsea and Max arrive at the hospital. Chelsea leaves Max outside the room while they wait for Daniel, who shows up with the results. They’ve a match, but it’s not one of the children. It’s Chloe!
Stage Four....
Chloe and Lucas kiss in the park and he tells her to act like it’s Christmas and pulls out a small box from his jacket. Chloe asks what it is and Lucas puts it away. He’ll wait until Christmas. Chloe begs for her Christmas present and they playfully argue. Lucas gives her the box, which holds a key to the new house! She is shocked to learn papers are signed and construction is on the way! They hug and Lucas says there’s a hot tub at the house, a fireplace in the bedroom, and a brick stove. Chloe hopes that doesn’t mean she has to cook. He has one more present for her that he had made for her – a ring! They profess their love for each other and he gets on bended knee and asks her to marry him.
In the park, Lucas slips the ring on Chloe’s finger and they giggle. When Kate calls, Lucas finds out the cancer has spread and that she’s going back into the hospital.
Kate arrives at the hospital with Daniel and settles in. Daniel gives her privacy and finds Chloe and Lucas outside her door and tells them that they’re going to kill Kate’s immune system and rebuild it from scratch. She needs a bone marrow transplant; he says….though he has told none of this to Kate. Lucas goes to see Kate while Chloe tells Daniel that Lucas proposed. She didn’t want Kate to see the ring, to give her something to worry about, and asks him to keep it private. He agrees to it.
Inside Kate’s room, she tells Lucas that she worries about him and he can help her by showing her how strong he is and asks if he’ll be okay without her. Lucas asks her not to talk like that and they both cry as Lucas promises he’ll be okay without her.
