Lucas comes downstairs at the DiMera Mansion and tells E.J. that as soon as he wins custody he's taking his daughter out of this pit of human degradation. Stefano applauds. "More good news." Lucas and Chloe leave. Stefano says, "That's one down!" He then tells Tony and E.J. that they should do the same. Tony says he's not going anywhere and E.J. says that he and Sami and the twins are quite comfortable. Stefano replies, "We'll see." Tony says he and E.J. have every right to be there. Stefano notes that he is challenging him. Stefano then turns to the subject of John Black being in control of his holdings. Tony says he can be dealt with, and Stefano counters that the two of them don't know what they're doing either! E.J. says he's wrong, and Stefano laughs. He raises a toast. "Here's to my sons! Bring it on!"
Nicole finds Lucas elsewhere in the hospital and asks how he is. He's good and glad this happened. It enforced his decision about Sami. Nicole adds, sarcastically, "But she's always been so loyal to you!" She's happy for him and thinks he's better off without Sami. Chloe arrives and agrees. Lucas needs to focus on Allie, and leaves Chloe behind. Chloe feels like she was blown off. Nicole understands this only too well, and Nicole asks if she can buy Chloe a coffee. Chloe accepts, and jokes. "You drink something other than booze?"
Nicole and Chloe drink coffee and toast to standing strong against the forces of Sami, and her influence over their men. Nicole discusses EJ and how attractive she finds him, but is furious for trusting him. Chloe blames Sami, and wonders what would happen if Sami wasn't in the picture. Sami always shoots herself in the foot in relationships, though they do as well. They toast to Sami. "Coming up empty!"
Lucas and Chloe come to, in Lucas's hospital room. Chloe still has symptoms of dizziness and starts to hyperventilate, so Lucas finds a paper bag for her to breathe into. It seems to help. She calms down, and they leave the room.
Chloe and Lucas leave his room and bump into Stefano! Lucas thinks Stefano's there to punish him because he shot EJ, but Stefano denies it. He asks why Chloe and Lucas are together, and then tells Lucas that he's not here to hurt him, but he has something that will. He holds up his cell phone and they witness live feed from the stairwell, where Sami and EJ are holding one another. Chloe's not surprised. "Neither am I," says Lucas. It's old news to Lucas! Things are over between them. "What are you here for, old man," asks Lucas. Stefano doesn't like the insult, but says for now, he won't punish Lucas for shooting EJ. Lucas thinks he'll let him sweat it out and asks what the point to all this is. Stefano shakes the cell phone at him and is happy Lucas is moving on with Chloe, because Samantha needs to be with EJ.
Lucas and Chloe check the phone in his hospital room. No dial tone. Lucas starts to mock Sami's waffling over he and EJ. She doesn't know what she wants, he tells Chloe, and history always repeats itself with her. "We're through." Chloe is sorry for him. He's not. He and Sami will never truly be happy with each other. "I'm free!" They discuss a future together, and start kissing, but when they hear a baby cry, they rush out in search of Joe...
Lucas and Chloe find their way downstairs and are comforted by Kate, who is happy they're okay. Lucas tells Kate he knows what happened between Sami and EJ, and doesn't care! "Things will never be the same between us."
Lucas sits at the PI office and thinks about Chloe, the little red hot tamale. He calls his wife a floozy and was more upset to see Miss Chloe Lane and Philip smooching, than his wife, cheating. He thinks back to being at Club Marlowe and Philip tells him he doesn't want trouble. Lucas tells Philip he's a married man, and Chloe pipes up that she doesn't fool around with married men. Lucas leaves and Chloe tells Philip that she's in love with Mr. Horton. She wants to run after him. She quit working for him because she was in love, and couldn't do anything about it. Philip says she won't be happy with Lucas and if she leaves this job, she'll have to sleep at the mission again. He tells her if she doesn't want that, she'd better go change for the next show. She runs off.
Lucas thinks more, in his PI office. "I need a drink bad. I earned it." He was jolted by two dames in the same day. He takes a call from Nicole, who tells him she did it - for both of them! She calls him over to her place at 711 Ocean Drive.
At Club Marlowe, Chloe practices a song, while Philip listens. After she's finished, Philip tells her he'll keep her on, even though he'll never have her. He angrily tells her maybe she and Mr. Horton can work things out. She doesn't think so, and Philip thinks she needs a way to move on. She tells him she doesn't want to be alone, and they kiss. He backs off, and Chloe asks, "Don't you want me?" Philip wants her to want him. He doesn't want to play second banana to her boss. If she walks out, she can't return, he says. He tells her to go get Lucas, and she rushes off.
Chloe arrives at Mr. Horton's PI office. He's not there and she thinks she has lost all chances with him. She watches at the window and thinks it's a long way to fall. Lucas rushes in and worries she'll jump. She's not jumping! She could never do that, much as she wants to. Lucas asks her to tell him what's wrong. They share a drink and Chloe admits she quit her job. "Philly K tried to put the moves on you, eh?" She denies it. He was a swell chap, had a good job, but she wants Lucas. Lucas tells her that's music to his ears. They kiss. "What about your wife?" Lucas has to make a call, first.
Lucas finishes his call (to the police) and tells Chloe he had to do it. Chloe is happy, and they plan a future together.
