Family Dinner Night

At the mansion, Rolf informs John that dinner is almost ready. They talk about Claire, the only member of his family who doesn't ask stupid questions and annoy him. He just wants to get this over with. So does Rolf; he's a scientist, not Martha Stewart. The doorbell rings and the guests file in. "I've been looking forward to this," John announces. Rolf arches his eyebrow and then takes their coats. Belle still can't get used to her father living in the mansion. He assures them that everything there is his. He pulls Claire away from some antiques before she can grab them and thanks everyone for coming to "Family Dinner Night". Marlena hands him the gift they brought. It's a photo album. "No thank you," he growls. Belle thinks he should try to remember things, but John doesn't want to. Shawn points out that there are cute pictures of Claire inside. "You fight dirty," John mumbles before opening up the book. He flips through Belle's baby pictures and grumbles about his bad 80's hair. He seems disturbed but insists that he's not remembering anything and walks out.

Dreams at Discount Prices

At the mansion, Marlena isn't enjoying watching John gloat over Stefano's fortune. There's a ring at the door and John sends her to answer it. She's not thrilled to find that Rolf is standing in the doorway. She thought he was supposed to be in prison. John explains that he got him out. "This is crazy! This man can't go free!" she tells him. "I just can't win with you. I thought you'd be pleased I finally did something nice," John utters blankly. Marlena worries and John asks her what she's still doing there. She invites him to a family supper. He's not enthusiastic at the prospect. "I'll let you know," he says as she turns and walks out.

Alone, John asks Rolf if Marlena can cook. Rolf laughs but John probes him for details. Rolf says that he heard him mumble many things while he was unconscious. John wants more information, like how he should dress. Rolf reminds him that he's not a butler. This gives John the perfect chance to offer him a job as his butler. Since Rolf has no prospects, he can't turn it down. John demands that he lose his accent. "It really bothers me," he says. They start going through Stefano's accounts when Rolf notices the disk that contains John's identity sitting in plain view. He offers to help in any way he can but John starts to wonder if he should throw him back in jail. What would the old John do? He wonders. "I shudder to think," Rolf says. Old John was too much of a "goody-two-shoes," he says. New John agrees and repeats that the old John is not coming back. Rolf is happy to hear it and would be glad to be his butler. John tells him to go to the basement and lock up the laboratory. Rolf protests; that was his life's work. John doesn't care and Rolf sullenly goes down and does his bidding. When he returns, John tells him to clean up and asks him to get rid of his accent again. As he walks into the kitchen, Rolf grabs the disk and hides it in the safe behind Stefano's portrait.

Stefano DiMera Arrested!

Bo and Roman give Stefano a search warrant to search the mansion for John Black. Stefano says he lost some keys on a rabbit's foot. If they find it, he'll appreciate it but he hasn't seen John Black since he was in a casket. He plays chess while he asks what he'd need with a dead John Black. Roman and Bo aren't interested in his jokes and tell him they've evidence to support their claims but Stefano laughs them off and asks Rolf to give them a grand tour. They only want to see the tunnels and whatever is below them now. Just then, Hope races in to tell everyone they found John!

Bo and Hope run down to the lab while Roman stays with Rolf and Stefano. Stefano thinks he should have filed charges against Marlena when she tried to shoot him, but he didn't, because she was grieving. Roman tells Stefano the man Marlena was grieving for was right downstairs the whole time. Stefano tells Roman he saved John's life - he should be revered and is a saint! Roman calls Stefano a sick man and when they find out why he brought John back, he'll be prosecuted.

A cautious John is brought upstairs and Roman is blown away! Hope receives word that Belle and Claire may have been abducted. She tells Bo and they agree to keep it quiet. She runs off and Roman arrests Stefano and Rolf. Marlena wants to know what happened to John. Stefano says John is not the same John and he will never know who she is. While Marlena and Stefano argue, John gets aggressive and goes after Stefano but Rolf jams a syringe into his shoulder - a sedative, and John collapses into Marlena's arms. Marlena calls Stefano a monster but Stefano argues that John's the monster. Marlena promises to John she'll help him. When Stefano asks who informed them about John, Bo refuses to tell, since Stefano won't tell them what they want to know. Stefano and Rolf are escorted out. On the way out, Stefano tells Bo it's not over by a long shot.

Marlena and John reunite!

Meanwhile, in Dr. Rolf's lab, John is re- programmed and forced to watch various versions of chaos and destruction. Stefano tells Rolf they've located their enemy and they need John to go to work. Rolf wants to wait until the timing is right but Stefano thinks Bo is on to them. Rolf says Bo doesn't know but Stefano flashes back to EJ threatening to tell the Brady's about John. "I really don't know," he says.

Stefano asks John a few questions. He answers everything correctly, according to Stefano. It's 2008, he is in Salem, has no family and belongs to Stefano. Stefano is happy to hear this until he asks what John's mission is. John says he's on a mission to get the hell out of there! Stefano says, "No, no, no. You can't get the hell out of here until I tell you that you're ready." Rolf enters the lab and tells Stefano he was right about the police. "They are here."

Hope and Marlena arrive at the lab, where they find John being deprogrammed. Marlena starts to shake. Hope tells her not to approach John until Bo arrives.

Bo and Roman arrive at Stefano's door and ask for John Black.

Back in the lab, a weeping Marlena goes to John. She touches him and calls his name. He flinches and she takes off the goggles from his face but he doesn’t notice her. She quietly asks, "What have they done?"

My sofa for my son!

Stefano tells John there is no turning back once he has started. John just wants to get out of there but Stefano lies and says he is a fugitive and it's dangerous for him to be out there. John wonders why. Who is it dangerous for? Stefano dances around the issue but an agitated John demands to know why he is being held there. Stefano asks Rolf to take John to his quarters and up the medication but Rolf argues that if he does so, John may not comprehend simple instructions. Stefano asks why John has a need to get out and Rolf deduces that John's searching for something. Stefano wants reassurance that John's memory won't come back.

Just making sure the guts are holding up alright!

Back at the mansion, Stefano tells John if anyone recognizes him, they'll arrest him because he's a wanted fugitive! Rolf tells him Marlena is at the door and refuses to leave, so Stefano ushers John into another room with a listening device for him to overhear everything. Marlena pushes her way into the mansion and demands to know, "Where's Brady. I want to know what you've done with John's son." She asks. She also wants to know who Crystal is and accuses him of having something to do with Lexi's captivity. Stefano tells her he has nothing to do with any of what's going on and this angers Marlena further. She whips out one of John's old revolvers - she reports that the serial number is scraped off, so nobody will know she was the culprit. All the while, she takes aim. She'll do them both in, she says, so a weary Stefano dares her to do it. John comes down the stairs and hears Marlena's voice. He flashes back to seeing Marlena at her car and helping her then is startled to hear five shots fired. Marlena has shot up Stefano's desk! She told him not to push her and says that's his warning. "Next time I won't miss." Stefano starts to laugh and tells her to get out. Marlena leaves just as John comes out of hiding. Stefano laughs, "I've got to admit. She really is something!"
