EJ arrives at the pub and asks Caroline where Arianna is. "She quit. She’s packing as we speak."
In her room, Ari mopes. Her door is open and when EJ turns up, he overhears Ari leaving a message for Rafe so he’s aware she’s moving out of the pub. EJ’s eyes narrow when she asks Rafe how things are going with the DNA tests. He walks away and Arianna flashes back to having sex with Brady in her room. She gets an idea and rushes out.
Nathan bumps into Stephanie at the pub and they greet one another until a woman starts choking and Nathan grabs his grandfather’s medical bag, rushes to her side and does CPR. He, Caroline and Stephanie are flabbergasted when Nathan saves the woman’s life.
Brady goes to Arianna at the pub. He wants to make sure Caroline is okay. Arianna tells Caroline she’s giving her notice, effective immediately. Caroline is surprised.
At Ciara’s birthday party in the park, Bo and Hope unwrap a gift with Ciara as Nathan shows up and takes Ciara to play. A mysterious man holding Ciara’s picture watches them from behind the bushes. Abe and Theo arrive and Caroline welcomes them. Hope offers them cupcakes and Abe thanks her for the generous check she gave to the autism charity, but Hope insists that was supposed to be anonymous. Hope, Caroline, and Theo walk off to find Ciara. Bo playfully tells Abe that Ciara thinks of Theo as her “best boy friend.” Abe asks Bo how things have been between him and Hope with his visions. Bo says the visions are still active. Abe asks him about the latest vision and Bo explains that Zack warned him if Ciara loses her teddy bear, something bad would happen. Bo says he’s not taking any chances as Hope interrupts. The mysterious man continues watching Ciara from a distance. Later, Bo and Hope clean up as Ciara plays with her friend, Tracey, with Tracey’s mom watching them. Tracey runs off and her mother chases after her. The mysterious man approaches Ciara and tells her that they are birthday buddies. He offers her a lollipop and Ciara takes it. The stranger tells Ciara he has more of those and it could be her birthday every day. He tells her to have fun and walks off. Hope and Bo walk by just as Tracey and her mom return. Hope asks Ciara where she got the lollipop from and Ciara says her friend gave it to her. Hope unwraps it for her.
Victor is angry that Stephanie broke up with Philip but Stephanie says he doesn’t have her under his thumb. Victor tries to apologize for the way he has come across. He knows Philip is deeply in love with her but Stephanie says this is about survival. After she testifies, Victor will change his tune. Philip arrives at the pub and finds Victor there. He tells him to leave her alone. They’ll work this out on their own.
Caroline comes to Victor’s table at the pub and asks if he has another place to be. He’s giving his son and Stephanie privacy. Caroline is angry, she says, and wants Victor to leave her granddaughter alone! She calls him a sentimental fool and won’t let him put Stephanie through what she went through.
Outside the pub, Stephanie tells Philip to stay away from her. She has to stick to her guns. Philip will be there for her, he professes, but Stephanie says this is a no-win situation. She begs him to let her go. It’s hard enough as it is. He says goodbye and kisses her on the cheek.
Bo calls Max and tells him he’s on his way over to say goodbye. Max says there’s something serious he has to ask him when he gets there. They hang up and Caroline wonders what she’ll do without him. She says the new manager is fine and Chelsea’s waiting for him. The pub will be fine, but she’ll miss him.
Nearby Arianna is cleaning and Caroline chastises him for not yet asking her to become the manager! Max goes to her and asks her. He says the workload will go up, but so will pay, and he’s sure after a few weeks she’ll know how to handle the pub and Caroline! Arianna says Caroline’s a good friend and agrees to manage the pub.
Bo arrives at the pub and Max says he loves Chelsea and wants to make her happy – always. There was a time when Bo didn’t approve of them being together, Max says. He wants Bo’s blessing, now. Bo laughs and says he won’t give his blessing! That’s meaningless. Max doesn’t need his blessing! He needs Chelsea’s blessing. Bo says if Max decides to take his relationship with Chelsea to the next level, they can fly over and celebrate here, or the family can go overseas. Melanie overhears this as she comes into the pub and yells, "You’re going to marry her?" Max says if he and Chelsea get married, it’s not going to happen in the coming months or year, but Melanie has to know that he’s serious about Chelsea. Melanie cries as she worries Chelsea will change him. Max assures her this isn’t going to happen and they’ll be able to talk all the time with internet chat. Melanie knows how selfish she’s being, but she loves him so much. They hug. Max looks at Nathan seething, and says he’s paying her an awful lot of attention! Melanie laughs and Caroline tells them Max’s taxi is here to take him to the airport. Max hugs Bo and agrees to take care of Chelsea for him. Melanie tells him if he doesn’t answer every email from her, she’ll fly to London and strangle him! They hug and Caroline holds his hands, saying that it’s okay that he’s leaving, as long as he’s happy. He reminds the family that this is only a temporary goodbye. Caroline thinks Shawn is looking down on him and is very proud. Max is thankful and leaves the pub. He waves once more, before heading to his taxi.
Nearby, Bo tells Nathan that Ciara has a big crush on him, then is about to warn him off of Melanie, but Nathan has heard that before, so Bo leaves it alone.
EJ and Nicole arrive at the church. In the vestibule, EJ mumbles he doesn’t even remember what Grace looks like as he holds the photo of Grace that he finds on the casket.
By the casket, Father Matt tells Rafe that God’s plans can be bewildering, but it only makes things worse. Rafe blames God for taking Grace from him.
Arianna and Brady discuss Sami and Rafe and the funeral today. Brady worries about Sami, but Arianna knows she has family support. She’s more concerned about Rafe and all the lies he has told for Sami.
Back in the vestibule, EJ makes a move toward Sami, when she arrives, but Roman and Bo stop him. Mia and Hope stand by as EJ tells Sami that he wouldn’t dream of disrespecting his daughter’s service. It wasn’t him who made her life a lie. Will comes in after Mia and makes a snide remark about EJ being Grace’s father. Bo asks him to support his mother today. Everyone goes inside the church but EJ and Nicole, who urges EJ to take this time to grieve, before taking revenge. EJ looks inside and sees Mia and asks Nicole who she is. Nicole stumbles over her words as she explains she thinks Mia babysat for Grace. EJ is angered that a stranger knew his kid more than he.
Inside the church, Will tells Mia that he does understand Sami’s reasoning for keeping Grace from EJ. He knows she would do what she could to stop her children from growing up in that house.
Nicole goes inside while EJ makes a call, giving orders to somebody to drop the papers off, soon. Stephanie interrupts EJ and tells him what she thinks of him, which isn’t much. She feels for Sami, who lost a child but doesn’t think EJ deserves children. EJ seethes and tells her she’s lucky to be alive, so Stephanie smacks him across the face and points at him, telling him not to dare threaten her again. Philip walks in just after the slap and EJ tells her to exercise a little control, saying he’s sure Philip will side with him on this one. EJ leaves and Stephanie apologizes to Philip. She’s got nothing to apologize for, he says, knowing full well that EJ should be in jail. They enter the church.
Back inside the church, Mia is unhappy for Sami. Nicole sits behind her and stops Mia from apologizing for being there. "You should be here for Grace." Caroline arrives while Stephanie goes to Sami to give her condolences. Sami knows she didn’t have to be there, considering her recent ordeal with Owen. Caroline goes to Sami and hopes Will has decided to sit with her. He hasn’t. Sami blurts out that she’s sick of the lies. Brady arrives with Arianna. When Arianna takes a seat, Brady tells Nicole she should know how Sami feels. She should have had a service for her lost child. Roman tells EJ if he hurts one more member of his family, he’ll turn in his badge and deal with EJ the way EJ deals with others. "No mercy." EJ takes out the custody papers from his pocket and thinks back to Stephanie’s rant.
Nearby, Arianna takes Rafe’s arm and says she knows this brings back a lot of memories. She admits she was wrong to tell him he was in the wrong for helping Sami.
Near the casket, Brady hugs Sami. Brady explains he understands completely, why she lied about Grace. He loves that about her, he admits. Meanwhile, Nicole tells Grace she was the first one to hold her and will never forget her.
Bo and Hope hug Sami and offer to talk to her anytime. Sami was worried they’d be angry at her but they could never stay angry at her, they confess. Father Matt starts the somber ceremony. Caroline does a reading and then Will tells a cute story about Grace, but has a difficult time finishing it, so Father Matt tells him he has done a good job, and Will takes a seat. When Father Matt asks if anyone else has any memories to share, EJ gets up. "I don’t have any memories to share but I do want to say something," he starts, causing Nicole, and the others to cringe. He goes up to the podium and says his only reason for getting up daily, is to ensure his children are safe. He discusses children and how one loves them before they see, hear or meet them. He says to Sami and Rafe, "I trust you’ll take some comfort in your memories of my daughter," reminding them they’ll always share memories of Grace, while he has nothing. He takes one last silent look around and takes a seat. Mia decides that though she has nothing to say, she’d like to sing. She starts singing "Amazing Grace," and Caroline joins her in song, while Sami chokes back tears. Most of the mourners get up to sing while Sami cries on Rafe’s shoulder. Father Matt gives a blessing and the Eucharist is given out. Later, roses are placed in a basket on top of the casket by everyone. Mia has to go back to work and gives Will a hug before she leaves. Sami and Rafe place a rose on the casket and Rafe tells Grace they’ll always love her. EJ and Nicole go to the casket and EJ says she’ll never be forgotten. Ever. Father Matt says another prayer and it’s time for the final farewell. Stephanie hugs Sami once more and then goes to EJ and blasts him for making Sami feel even worse than she already does. She tells Nicole to remember the blood on his hands next time he holds Sydney. EJ tells Philip to control his woman better.
Arianna goes to Rafe, and they discuss the support Sami has. Rafe thinks it was a mistake to let EJ find out the truth at all. Arianna asks him not to take all of this on himself in order to protect Sami, but she knows this falls on deaf ears.
Nearby, EJ is angered that Sami named Grace after Rafe. Roman tells Sami she’s strong, just like her mother, and they hug. Hope hugs Sami and then Bo, who tells her to call if she needs anything. The guests file out and all that is left is Sami and Rafe and EJ and Nicole.
Caroline encounters Stephanie outside the Kiriakis house and says she's worried about her. Stephanie says she should be concerned about Sami. Caroline is disappointed that Philip has left her to go on a business trip after what she just went through! Stephanie asks her not to talk about Philip that way, and assures her that Owen can't get near her again. Caroline is concerned about Stephanie's plan to go to the funeral today - what will happen when she has to face EJ? Caroline feels that EJ had nothing to do with what happened to her, but Stephanie disagrees, but assures her grandmother that the truce will last.
Will, Rafe and Sami huddle together in Grace’s room. Will holds his baby sister as Sami cries. Will leaves Grace’s room and sits with Mia. He thanks her for encouraging him to go in and see her. He’s glad she’s sticking around Salem. "So am I, Will."
Caroline visits Grace. She tells Sami she has called Father Matt, knowing Grace’s time with them will be short. Sami angrily tells her grandmother she refuses to give up.
Nearby, Lucas and Chloe see Caroline go into the coffee room with Father Matt. Caroline apologizes and says he was right. Sami’s upset he’s there. She asks if he’ll wait.
In Grace’s room, Sami complains about Father Matt being there but Rafe tells her they’ll do whatever she likes. "I just want her to be okay," Sami cries. Rafe holds Grace, and then leaves the room. He goes to Father Matt and nods. Caroline and Roman look down, sadly. Across the room, Chloe gazes at Daniel, who hangs up on a call in anger, as he watches helplessly, as Rafe and Father Matt go into Grace’s room.
Inside Grace’s room, Father Matt says last rites as Grace sleeps. Rafe and Sami discuss how Grace had Rafe wrapped around his pinky. He breaks down and Sami tells Grace that she brought them so much love and happiness. Grace’s heart monitor races and suddenly, she flat lines. Rafe asks if he should get the doctor, but Sami wants to be with her alone, for a time. They cry together as they gaze at Grace. Daniel arrives and turns off the monitor, telling them both how sorry he is. He asks for a moment and removes the wires and tubes from Grace, then tells them to stay as long as they like. He asks if Sami wants her family there, and she barely gets out a 'no'.
Daniel leaves Grace’s room and tells the family and friends that Grace went peacefully, about five minutes ago. Everyone collectively cries and Daniel tells them Sami has requested time alone for now. He leaves the area and goes into another room and cries.
Caroline tells Roman that this is impossible, and wonders how Sami can bear this.
Back in Grace’s room, Sami covers Grace up in her favorite blanket. She knows her daughter can hear her and tells her they love her. They’ll love her forever. Sami cries as she talks and Rafe holds her, tight.
Will goes to his father and tells him it all happened so fast, he can hardly believe it. Lucas asks him to be there for his mother. She’ll need him. "And you can lean on me," he offers. "I will," Will says, and Lucas turns to find Chloe has disappeared.
Chloe finds Daniel at the chapel. She watched him tonight and the reason he’s such a good doctor is because he cares so much. Daniel thinks calling him a ‘good doctor’ is an overstatement. Chloe wants to believe God wanted Grace, but Daniel says it’s all part of the plan. He tells her to go be with her husband, so she leaves.
Nicole flashes back to Grace’s birth and knew from the second she saw her that Grace was an angel, and now she’s in heaven. She looks at Mia, unhappily.
