PHILIP KIRIAKIS'S HISTORY
Philip came into the world through the convolutions of the power struggle between Kate and Vivian. As the women struggled for a place next to Victor, they took drastic measures. When Kate sought to get implanted at a fertility clinic, Vivian managed to switch their embryo and be implanted with it herself.
As his parents battled over him, the young Philip rapidly aged into a high school student. He spent his time with rich kids Jan Spears and Jason Welles, tormenting Chloe Lane. The nasty games would stop for a moment when Philip, discovering more depth to her than he originally imagined, fell in love with her. Things got nasty again though when she accused him (falsely) of rape. He dumped her soon after, once her nude photos began to circulate in public.
Moving on with his life, Philip left Salem and joined the military. He soon returned to town to serve as the 'mystery hunk' in the Love is Blind contest. While back in town, his feelings for Belle Brady were soon reawakened. As they pursued a relationship, he continued his covert work for the ISA. Along with Tek, he worked to get the dirt on Tony DiMera. Eventually, he and Belle became engaged. They almost had to postpone the wedding when he was called to serve in Iraq. Instead, they rushed ahead and wed before he left.
While he was away, Belle couldn't help admitting to herself that she was truly in love with Shawn-Douglas Brady. Despite wanting to run off with Shawn, she had to stop herself after Philip lost his leg in the war. She became pregnant and Philip was ecstatic to have his own daughter. They began planning for more children and went to a fertility clinic. There was a mishap at the clinic however and she became pregnant with Shawn's child while Mimi became pregnant with Philip's. Soon, another fact would shake up his life. It came out that Shawn was Claire's biological father. He nearly broke down and ran off with Claire, refusing to ever let anyone take her away from him. After he settled down, he returned to Belle's side and promised to be there for her and her new baby. Sadly, things weren't working out for the young couple and they came to understand that neither of them were really happy in the marriage.
He left Salem, returning to combat. Soon, he returned, now unrecognizable thanks to the reconstructive surgery done to his face after it was seared by severe burns in Afghanistan. His father, Victor, tried to look after him and brought Claire to visit him on a regular basis. Victor bribed a judge to grant his son legal custody of the little girl, a move which would push Shawn and Belle to take Claire and go on the run. He followed them, first to Toronto and then onto a ship as they stowed away for Australia. Although he manged to get them confined to their quarters, they escaped and were presumed dead when their boat washed up smashed and covered in blood. Philip still clung to hope and joined forces with EJ Wells to track them down.
Philip had a change of heart when he was in a tsunami near Australia, with Shawn, Claire and Belle and now wants to make things right.

Thursday, November 20 2008: They’re Ingrates!
Melanie flies over the balcony of the hotel, screaming and holding on for life. Meanwhile, Stephanie and Philip watch in horror, below, as Bo grabs Melanie’s arm and pulls her in, promising she’ll be alright. Hope makes a call for backup while training her gun on Nick. She tells him to back away from Melanie and Bo, but he’s too concerned with Melanie’s safety. Philip notices a fire escape and starts climbing. Hope leaves Nick for one moment and he grabs his drugs and heads to the door. She arrests him for the murder of Trent Robbins. Philip grabs Melanie, just in time, and Stephanie yells that the cops are there.
Inside the room, Hope asks if Nick understands his rights. His only concern is Melanie, who they say is going to be fine.
Outside the office, Stephanie can’t believe they could have been so wrong. They hug, and Max shows up. Nick hasn’t been the same since Willow died,” he says, and Chelsea comes in behind him. She faults herself. Crying, she blames herself, but Max tells her something pushed him over the edge. Melanie walks in and everyone becomes quiet. Stephanie tells Max she’s fine and she thanks Philip. He hugs her and apologizes for what she went through. Stephanie and Chelsea blame Melanie for Nick having to go to jail for the rest of his life. Max yells at them while Melanie tells them that Nick tortured her. Chelsea says she has lied to the police and obstructed justice, while Stephanie tells Melanie that she lied to him and ruined his whole life.
Maggie rushes into the police station and into Bo’s office, taking Nick in a big hug. Hope realizes that Nick used his one call to call Maggie and not his lawyer.
Wednesday, November 19 2008: Dream Home.
Nick and Melanie struggle at the hotel and his cell phone drops to the floor and dials Stephanie by accident. She picks up and says she’s glad it’s Nick. Philip grabs Stephanie’s phone and he overhears Melanie accuse Nick of killing Trent. Melanie tells Nick there is no going back. She remembers. “I know the truth now.” Nick tells her he’s sorry she does. “You’ll never know how sorry I am.” Philip listens in to the cell phone and tells Stephanie he hears shouting but can’t make out what’s being said.
Philip hears a plane in the background on the phone and Stephanie listens in as Melanie yells as she tries to escape. Melanie hates Nick, she cries. Philip heard a plane in the background and thinks he knows where they are. Meanwhile, Melanie continues to tell Nick to leave her alone. He finds his cell phone on the floor and picks it up, asking for forgiveness. He did this for her. Melanie’s surprised he’s sorry. “I feel horrible,” he says and Melanie softens. “Maybe I was too hard on you?” Nick did what he thought was right and wanted to make her feel free. Melanie still thinks he can make it right. If he can, she’ll forgive him. She tells him to call the police and confess.
Philip and Stephanie arrive at Salem PD and tell Bo and Hope what they’ve heard. Hope and Bo ask them to stay there while they go find Melanie and Nick, but as Hope and Bo run off, Steph and Philip decide to go after them. First, they find out from the computer that Nick’s at the Salem Airway Hotel. They dash off.
Philip and Stephanie can’t get into the hotel. Stephanie gives Philip a nail file to jimmy the lock. They look up as they hear Melanie’ screams.
Meanwhile, Melanie tells Nick that he hasn’t ruined anything. She sees how much he has done for her and says they can leave now. Nick accuses her of lying. She begs him to trust her, but he tells her she’ll have to stay there. Melanie runs out the patio doors. Nick runs to her and grabs her. They struggle on the balcony and outside we see Hope and Bo have arrived. They yell for Nick and bust through the door as Melanie screams. She clutches at the balcony and goes over, hanging on for dear life!
