At the hospital, a crying Marlena tells John how much she loves him and remembers past times they’ve kissed. John wakes up and tells her, “I remember…. I remember all of it, Doc. Especially you!” John struggles to tell her he loves her when Kayla walks in just in time to hear the good news. She’s upset and tells Marlena, "John's central nervous system has had a catastrophic episode. If he stays here even one more day, his chances of recovery are slim." Marlena refuses to lose John again, so Kayla recommends they move John to a facility in Lugarno, Switzerland for treatment. Marlena runs to get Brady and John calls him Brady and declares he remembers him. “I always loved you,” he tells Brady, as tears stream down his face.
Marlena goes to John, who panics, when he realizes he can’t feel his arms and legs.
John finds out he can’t walk and tells Marlena to walk out the door and never look back. He’s no good to her. Marlena shares the information about the treatment facility in Switzerland. They need to go now. John’s astonished that she’d leave with him but she reminds him he’s her life. She’ll work hard to help him. John tells her before they do any of this, he’d like to marry her – again, before they leave! Marlena does too, and they decide to call the priest. They kiss.
Marlena tells the others in the lounge the good news. Stefano tells her he had nothing to do with this but Marlena doesn’t care what he says. He can’t hurt them again.
Marlena goes into John’s room, where Father Jansen starts the wedding, in front of Roman, Kayla and Brady. Father Jansen presides and Stefano salutes John, before they start. Marlena says her vows and tells him she knew they’d be together again. John thinks she’s the only reason he’s there. They profess their love in their vows and kiss, passionately.
Convent of The Holy Cross.
Marlena asks the paramedics for adrenaline as Hope hangs on tight to Dr. Taylor. Bo does CPR on an unconscious John as Marlena readies the injection, and once she injects him, Dr. Taylor sneers that they’re too late. Hope drags the doctor out and Marlena asks Brady to leave, while Bo continues CPR. Marlena talks to John, begging for him to fight, and reminds him that he has remembered his past and needs to keep fighting. John sucks in a deep breath and says, “Blondie,” causing Bo to sigh in relief and Marlena to cry out in happiness. “Keep breathing,” she tells him.
John is taken to University Hospital. Marlena consoles Brady, who wished he had killed Charlotte. Marlena calls her disturbed and Brady tells Marlena she should have seen John’s face when he saw the tape, remembering his love for her. “He loves you so much,” Brady says, emotionally.
In his room, Kayla asks John what Charlotte did to him, then goes to Brady and Marlena to tell them that John has had an episode. She’ll know more when the test results return. She asks them to talk to him. They’re not sure of the extent of the damage. Marlena worries it’s a stroke, but Kayla tells her not to go there yet. Marlena saw a tape of John’s hypnosis and explains they can talk about the review board later, but admits John recalled her and other things and Charlotte kept this from him. Kayla thinks it’s a good idea to discuss memories with him, though Marlena’s not sure he can access those memories now. Brady comes out of John’s room and tells them he thinks John already has! Brady admits he’s the one who took the tape of John’s hypnosis from Charlotte. He says he played it again for John, who told him he sees light. Marlena cries out and runs to John.
Back in John’s room, Marlena tells John they’ll reach each other through their memories. She holds his hand and starts telling him about their history. We see flashbacks of them when they were younger and John squeezes her hand when she asks if he remembers. She flashes back to their first wedding vows, and then their reuniting on the pier, but John starts to seize. Kayla rushes in. Later, Marlena kisses John and tells him she loves him. She flashes back to kissing him in various places and John suddenly opens his eyes. “I remember,” he says. Marlena starts to cry.
Non-Negotiable.
At the pub, Brady tells John that he’s getting his memory back and that the hypnosis was a success, except Charlotte didn’t tell him. When John becomes irate, Brady reassures him he has proof, and shows it to him on his iPhone. John is flabbergasted and doesn’t understand why Charlotte would keep this from him. Brady says he showed Marlena and they’ve got to figure out why Charlotte would keep it from him. Brady says Marlena’s furious and he doesn’t envy Dr. Taylor. John worries she’s talking to the doctor now and wonders why the doctor kept this from him. Nearby, Daniel sits at the pub, drinking.
Braxton Hicks
Kayla finds John at the pub and tells him her gut feeling says not to trust Charlotte. John thinks she needs to do better than that. She tells him that she had to intervene a heated dispute between Charlotte and Marlena, about him and his therapy, and calls Charlotte's behavior inappropriate. "I thought at one moment she was going to hit Marlena," she confesses and wonders after Charlotte's mental state. Kayla encourages him to check it out for himself.
Charlotte seethes about what Marlena has done. John stops by her office to ask about the argument she had earlier with Marlena. Charlotte tells him she refused to discuss their last session with Marlena, and she became hysterical. "Kayla had to intervene." John confesses that Kayla said Charlotte's not to be trusted. Charlotte wonders who Kayla is to say that. John says they're friends, and they agree that Marlena might be jealous that she isn't the one to be helping him. John decides to quit therapy. "I'm not coming back," he tells her. He leaves and Charlotte has a meltdown.
John sits with Brady at the pub. Brady tells him that Dr. Taylor isn't who she says she is.
Leave Salem Forever.
At the pub, Charlotte tells John that a good way to cut all ties and fit into a community is to leave Salem forever. John is angry and sarcastic with her. He tells her that you don't just tell somebody to move out of town without a good reason. Dr. Taylor says there is one and she's been thinking of this for a while. "Very often amnesia is irreversible." She tells him to treat this as if it's permanent, upsetting John more. Dr. Taylor thinks he can be his own man and will be accepted for who he really is, if he moves. John likes that idea, but if he goes, he's taking Blondie with him. "No, you can't. That's a mistake," Dr. Taylor shouts. John is puzzled and tells her 'that's not very shrink like to be so negative'. The doctor thinks she can be frank with him. He knows she wants to help him and will do what she can to get his ex-wife back, if that's what he wants but she doesn't think it's going to happen.
