Philip returns to Kate’s room when the results are in. Kate asks him to call Lucas, so he leaves the room and calls Lucas, interrupting Chloe and Lucas’ love making to tell him the results are in. Lucas says they’ll be right there, so they get up.
Chloe and Lucas arrive at Kate’s room and Chelsea and Max arrive at the hospital. Chelsea leaves Max outside the room while they wait for Daniel, who shows up with the results. They’ve a match, but it’s not one of the children. It’s Chloe!
Stage Four....
Daniel finds Kate out on the patio and she says she couldn’t have asked for a better celebration. She asks about her test results. "The lung tumor is responding to your treatment, but the cancer has metastasized," he tells her. It’s in her lymph nodes, bone marrow and …she’s at stage four. Kate cries and asks how much time she has left. Daniel says there are cases where cancer has gone into remission for years. “We’re going to keep fighting this, Kate,” he says but she doesn’t want a pep talk. She calls this her bad karma coming to get her and sobs and won’t tolerate his asking her to stay strong. He asks her in return not to talk about karma again and says she has to pack up and get back to the hospital. She agrees to it and in tears, asks him to promise her she’ll come out of the hospital. He holds her hand and promises.
Kate arrives at the hospital with Daniel and settles in. Daniel gives her privacy and finds Chloe and Lucas outside her door and tells them that they’re going to kill Kate’s immune system and rebuild it from scratch. She needs a bone marrow transplant; he says….though he has told none of this to Kate. Lucas goes to see Kate while Chloe tells Daniel that Lucas proposed. She didn’t want Kate to see the ring, to give her something to worry about, and asks him to keep it private. He agrees to it.
Inside Kate’s room, she tells Lucas that she worries about him and he can help her by showing her how strong he is and asks if he’ll be okay without her. Lucas asks her not to talk like that and they both cry as Lucas promises he’ll be okay without her.
Tightly Wound.
Kate and Daniel arrive at the pub, where they find Lucas and Chloe. They explain they’ve got a surprise party planned for her at Victor’s place!
Brady meets Victor poolside, at the Kiriakis mansion. Victor asks how things are going, and Brady flashes back to telling Nicole that her baby didn’t make it. He admits that it hasn’t been what he expected!
Chelsea is thrilled to see Brady, poolside, and gives him a big hug. Brady goes to get the door while Chelsea tells Victor she’s trying not to feel responsible for Trent’s death. She blames Melanie now. “She made Nick crazy, literally.” They’re interrupted by Kate and Daniel, Chloe and Lucas. Kate’s thankful to be there and asks after Chelsea, who shares how shaken up she was to see Nick. Puzzled, she says Max made it better.
Chloe tries to make conversation with Victor, nearby, but he treats her with contempt. Chloe thinks dementia is settling in, considering he is the one who walked over to her. Chloe wonders if he has ever thought of forgiveness. Victor tells her one false move and there will be hell to pay.
Nearby, Daniel tells Brady how good he looks and gets something to drink, while Brady calls Nicole, to see how she is. Nicole lets her know that EJ’s back and she can’t talk.
Daniel interrupts Chloe and Victor’s tête à tête and tries to talk to him about Kate. When he Daniel receives a call, he asks Victor to make excuses for him while he steps out. Later, Chloe is sarcastic to Victor, and Brady asks Kate how she’s enjoying the party. She finds it first class, and asks how he is. He seems to be elsewhere, in his head. Brady’s fine and is happy she’s doing well.
Chelsea follows Chloe to the bar, and tells Chloe not to let her grandfather get to her. “He’s tightly wound.”
Philip arrives at Kate’s party. Lucas jokes that he took the term ‘fashionably late’ to the extreme. Philip wonders where Daniel is, and Victor says he’ll return in a moment. Victor is uplifted to see Kate up and around and Philip is encouraged as well, but Kate reminds them she’s not cured yet. Victor sings Daniels’ praises and Philip gives Kate her blessing with Daniel. Kate’s very appreciative, and pulls her son into a hug.
Nearby, Chloe rants to Lucas about how Victor’s treating her. Lucas tells her the only thing that counts is that he loves her. She repeats his words and her mood slightly changes.
Daniel arrives back at the party and Kate tells him this party is as much for him as it is for her. Philip gives Daniel a gift – a beautiful watch that Philip says he bought for his brother, as well. Daniel apologizes, and sadly says he can’t accept it. It’s a job and what he does. He’s thankful, and apologizes for offending Philip. He leaves the two and Philip feels like an idiot. He wanted to do something nice. Kate is sure that Daniel didn’t mean to hurt his feelings and Philip says it’s fine. As long as she’s happy, he’s fine! Philip makes a toast to Kate, and calls her the heart of the family. Daniel frowns as Philip drinks to Kate’s continued health, and Kate catches his eye.
Samantha is my Past....
Kate is thrilled to get out of the hospital, but Daniel tells her he can’t let her go unless she agrees to cut back on her work load. She refuses until after the holidays. She has to go to Ibiza. Daniel says she could compromise her immune system and they argue. She yells and refuses to listen to reason, so Daniel stops her with a hard kiss. She kisses him back and when they break away, he realizes he has to back off. He respects that she needs to live life to the fullest, and Kate agrees to take care of herself but she will travel and spend time with her family. She wants her time spent with family, friends and him.
Daniel and Kate arrive at the pub to welcoming hugs from Chelsea and Lucas. Chloe welcomes her home. Kate wishes she could have seen Allie, but Daniel says she had a cold, and glares at her. Kate wants to see her tomorrow, on her way to work, but Lucas raises an eyebrow. “Work?” Kate’s kidding. Daniel goes to get more drinks and Lucas ushers Chloe after him, so he can urge Kate not to go back to work so soon.
At the bar, Daniel apologizes to Chelsea for what happened to Nick. Chelsea says it’s ironic. She broke Nick’s heart to be with Daniel and Daniel did the same thing to her! Daniel thought they were past this but Chelsea spits out, “Apparently not!” She storms off.
Later, Daniel and Chloe wind up outside. Chloe calls Chelsea a drama queen, saying she has a history of that herself. Daniel had no idea, but Chloe points out that he doesn’t know her well, though they’re practically family. She goes back inside.
Kate is happy that Chelsea came to her celebration and Chelsea apologizes to her grandmother. She thinks she’s a great person and respects her. Kate feels the same. She knows Chelsea has difficulty forgiving people but Kate says she doesn’t want her to continue with her anger, and blames others because life is too short.
Dream Home.
At the hospital, Daniel checks in on a sleeping Kate and when she wakes up, she tells him he was smiling in her dream, much the same as he is now. In the dream, he gave her a miracle pill that made her healthy and strong. Daniel wishes things were as simple as that and lets her know that in an hour, they’ll know what to do next, after they see how much the tumor has shrunk.
