Life is Too Short!

At the hospital, Marlena receives a piece of mail stating that John has yet to sign the divorce papers. John shows up and wants to know why she didn't return his calls. She had nothing more to say, so he confronts her about talking with EJ. John says Elvis accused him of being heartless and wants to know if she feels the same. She admits she tried to find the old John inside him but is running out of hope. She calls him a stranger. They go through the same argument. John has been trying to impress her, but he's not loving, kind and selfless, she points out. "It was in his nature." She asks if he can be that kind of man and he says, "No, but I'm trying."

John tells Marlena about Nicole's pregnancy and that Elvis is the father. Marlena is shocked and asks why Nicole confided in him. "She trusts me," he says, but when Marlena asks why he told her, he asks if that was wrong. She promises to keep it confidential and he explains that Nicole trusts her. He grins and thinks that she and EJ are probably out picking out items for the baby, now. Marlena is shocked and smiles. "You did the right thing!" Sami runs up to them and interrupts John asking Marlena on a date. "Mom, I need to talk to you!" John tells her he'll call her, and leaves, while Marlena calms Sami down. She tells Marlena about Nicole being pregnant with EJ's baby, but Marlena already knows and wonders why this is so upsetting to her. Sami thinks Nicole will trap EJ, and is after him for his money. Marlena reminds Sami that she of all people knows how tough it is to be the mother of a DiMera heir. She can't see why Nicole would lie. Sami asks if Marlena's happy that Nicole's pregnant. She laughs. She's not, but she is happy that it's Sami who isn't pregnant!

EJ, I'm pregnant....

Roman and Marlena talk outside the pub, about her love for the old John Black and how he won't go to the doctor to be examined. They're worried about Sami.

Roman and Marlena go into the pub and Sami changes her mind about confiding in them. She launches into a discussion about current events, from Caroline's bail, to Nicole's marriage to Trent, until Roman stops her. He asks her to come clean, but Marlena thinks she has changed her mind about confiding in them and asks if she's done something wrong. Sami admits she's in trouble and needs their help. She asks if it's okay to keep a secret from a loved one, and Marlena says it's not. Sami brings up Marlena's affair with John. She kept that a secret. Marlena says it was wrong and stands by her answer. "If you trust this person, you have to tell them the truth," she says. Sami asks, "Even if it will destroy an innocent life?" She finally agrees to tell them, but only if they swear not to tell anyone. They refuse to go down that path once again, due to past mistakes and Sami apologizes for wasting their time, but decides not to tell them the truth. She tells them they've helped her. "I know what to do now." She's going to tell the truth! Once Sami leaves, they ponder who Sami has to talk to. Marlena thinks it's EJ.

Sami, or Me?

At the mansion, Marlena finally is able to pull away from John's clutches and kissing session and gives him divorce papers. She wants him to see a doctor, and when he asks what he can do to convince her to stay with him, she tells him again, that he needs to find out what's going on with his blinding headaches. He refuses. She thought he would, but cares about him. John hears this and asks her not to go through with the divorce, but she heads to the door. John pleads with her to stay, but she says she can't settle for less than she deserves. John wants to fight for their marriage. He has instincts, he says. He yells, "I can't lose you!" Marlena asks if he can be the old John. He can't, he says, sadly, and Marlena weeps quietly. "I didn't think so." John can't sign the papers because he can tell Marlena cares for him. He too cares for her, he says, but she can't trust him. She again urges him to see a doctor about his headaches before it's too late and then leaves the mansion, in tears. After she leaves, John reads the divorce papers, groans, and smashes a vase. "No, I won't lose…" Stefano arrives and tells John all about the wonderful afternoon he has had with Johnny and asks if John misses little Claire. "Sure." Stefano continues his story, but John stops him. Stefano asks if he's preoccupied with Marlena. He saw her leave the property earlier. He tells John to stay away from her. She'll destroy his life! He admits he was once in love with Marlena, but John argues that he heard it was more of an obsession. Stefano laughs and says Marlena turned on him, but John says Marlena was merely protecting him. Stefano recommends John sign the divorce papers, leading John to wonder how he knew about them. "I know everything, John. You'd do well to remember that," he says, ominously and leaves. After he leaves the room, John has another blinding headache and falls to the floor. Stefano returns and witnesses it but does nothing.

EJ bumps into Lucas at Chez Rouge. Lucas assumes Sami told EJ the truth but soon finds out she hasn't. EJ shares that something is going on with Sami and assumes Lucas knows, but Lucas thinks Sami should be the one to tell him.

Nearby, Nicole walks into the restaurant and tells her baby she wishes she, the baby and EJ could be one happy family.

Lucas only tells EJ that Sami was upset last he spoke with her, but he is staying out of her drama. Nicole interrupts and asks Lucas if he could leave them alone. He does so and Nicole asks why EJ hasn't returned her message. He was busy. Nicole blasts him, but he is preoccupied and has no time for her. EJ wants to know why she's so hostile. She comments that he has no time for her. He barely said goodbye last night. EJ denies that. He said goodbye, and says he has to meet someone. Nicole demands he tell this person that he can't talk, that she has something important to discuss. EJ's interest is piqued, but he thinks she's merely upset about their date coming to an end. He asks to reschedule for Saturday but she jokes that she has a date with the Jonas Brothers. EJ sits with Nicole and he explains he was looking forward to their date. He tells her that Sami fainted, and hopes Sami will tell him why, when she gets there. He apologizes. Sami asked her to meet him there and he is terrified that something is wrong with Johnny. He'll always be there for Sami, as she's the mother of his child. Nicole calls this a deal breaker, but EJ tries to tell her that Johnny is the most important thing in his life. She can't ask him to cut Sami out of his life. He apologizes for hurting her feelings, but she tells him it was humiliating, and she won't allow him to put her through that again. Nicole assumes that he'd make any excuse to spend time with Sami. EJ denies this. Nicole berates herself for allowing EJ to play games with her. EJ is confused even more and apologizes. Nicole assumes she means nothing to him and asks him to make a decision. "Who do you want to build a life with?" Through tears, she whispers, "Sami, or me?" EJ finds it complicated and Nicole asks who has his heart. EJ apologizes. This will sound selfish but he asks her to let it be for now. Nicole can't. EJ feels he's in an impossible position. It's a new relationship, and he needs to know where it's going before he makes a commitment. He says she's wonderful and he cares about her very much, and he also cares about Samantha very much. This isn't what Nicole wanted to hear, so she gets up to leave, and though EJ asks, she refuses to tell him her important news.

EJ bumps into Marlena at Chez Rouge and asks for help. She explains John's headaches and asks if Anna told him already. He hasn't seen Anna in a while. Marlena says John refuses to go back for more tests and asks if EJ could convince John to have the tests run. He's not sure he can, but Marlena thinks he can do this for Sami and Johnny. EJ laughs. "You play dirty, Marlena." She replies, "When it's important." She thanks him.

It's Too Early for This Kind Of Drama!

At the hospital, Kayla urges Marlena not to give up on John - he needs her right now! Marlena says she's waited long enough for her miracle - she needs to move on with her own life! Kayla says she thinks she is making a mistake. Kayla notes that she cares about both of them. Marlena says that what's best for them is a divorce. Kayla urges her to stand by him and make sure he gets the care he needs! She points out that John's condition could be fatal. Marlena says she'll talk to John about getting medical care. Kayla muses that he probably won't listen to her once she gives him the divorce papers! Kayla then thinks twice - perhaps if she gives him the divorce papers, he'll work extra hard to win her back, maybe he'd even agree to seek medical care! Marlena smiles, but says she won't be going that route.

At the mansion, John makes a phone call to someone and notes wryly that, yes, it is a miracle that his brother is back! When he gets off the phone, the doorbell rings. John swings off the doorjamb as the head pain returns. When it fades, he answers the door - it's Marlena! She has the divorce papers, and John tells her that he thought maybe she had changed her mind. She says she hasn't - especially if he doesn't even care enough to go to the hospital and look after himself. "Why should I stick around?" He tells her he's not letting her give up on their marriage. She says it's too late. John replies, "No. It's not." He then pulls her into a passionate kiss!

I'm Shaking in my Boots!

Kayla finds Marlena looking distractedly through files at the hospital nurses station. They discuss the baby and Kayla asks if something is bothering Marlena. Marlena admits there is. "John seems to be spiraling out of control." And she can't do a thing about it. The more she tries to help John, the more defiant he becomes, she says so she is done with him.

Nearby, Daniel yells at a nurse about a patient. Kayla witnesses this and confronts him. She asks him not to yell, but he's too angry to listen and stomps off, only to bump into Chelsea, who is there to see Kate. Daniel can't discuss Kate's case with her, he apologizes. Chelsea asks him to remind her again why he couldn't tell her why he slept with Kate. He didn't want to hurt her, he says. She counters that he didn't want her to know. He'd already hurt her by sleeping with Kate. She wonders. "A man has needs, right?" Daniel tells her that's not it. Daniel says Kate never meant to hurt Chelsea. She doesn't want to hear it and says, "I'll see you around, Daniel," and stomps off.

Anna brings John to the hospital. He has had a seizure and convulsions, she explains as Kayla examines him. He's not an easy patient. Anna gives a call to Marlena and asks her to come to the trauma center. Marlena rushes over and Anna explains what happened. He's currently getting a brain scan. Marlena runs to John, and meanwhile, Kayla looks at John's x-rays and says, "Oh my God!" She wonders how this is possible.
