Roman arrives back at Salem PD. Marlena is waiting and asks why Lucas is going to maximum security. He did the best he could and thinks Lucas will be fine. Marlena figures she knows how to get John's memory back. She needs his help. She shows him the broken disc of John's dormant brain wave patterns and he wants to know how she got it. She can't tell him but needs him to trust her and help John. He'll do his best. She thinks Rolf can repair it and if they can offer him immunity if he can fix it, this may help. Roman's unsure if it's possible and wonders if this disc could harm or kill John. Roman wants to send the disc to ISA to see what's on it and restore it, and then they can help John. This way they don't have to give a deal to Stefano's mad scientist! He asks how Marlena's holding up and she says she's taken on more patients and keeping herself busy. She avoids the real question, so Roman presses on. She explains John likes who he is now - ruthless and dangerous. Roman thinks she has done all she can. John's a different man. He isn't sure she should be around him. He thinks it's time to let him go, but she can't. Roman wonders if she has a choice.
An incognito Dr. Rolf meets Marlena at the pub. She laughs that he looks like an extra in the Sopranos. Rolf morosely says he'll be sleeping with the fishes if John finds him there. Marlena tells him she needs his cooperation and won't take no for an answer! When John calls, Rolf puts on his American accent. He is asked for a favor. Rolf gets rid of him by saying he's finishing his glaze on his soap dish. Marlena offers immunity if he fixes the disc. She wonders if he's happy working for John. Rolf isn't and Marlena tells him that she'll be discrete and will do what she can to help him. Dr. Rolf just can't trust her. Marlena says she'll find a way to get John's memory back and when she does, Rolf will spend a long time behind bars! She leaves.
Morgan arrives at Salem PD. She doesn't want the money her father left. Abe tries to talk her into taking it but she asks for him to hold onto it until her father returns.
Marlena goes into Roman's office to discuss Sami. Roman tells a shocked Marlena that EJ is threatening to sue for custody of Johnny, and explains that EJ and Nicole had sex on the night of the blackout, while Lucas and Chloe did! Marlena is shocked and figures since Sami has played one man off each other, it was bound to happen. She blames herself for Sami growing up watching her torn between two men, but Roman interjects that Sami needs to take some responsibility. Abe interrupts and Marlena goes to get coffee while Abe tells Roman that Morgan refused to take the money that Paul left for her. She wants them to keep it until they find her. "If we find him," says Roman.
Abe comes out of Roman's office and Marlena asks after Theo. One day at a time, says Abe. Marlena tells him of a group session at the hospital for parents of Autistic children and Abe's interested. He admits he and Lexi had a good talk today. Marlena's happy to hear it. When Roman returns, he takes her back to his office.
Roman mentions a call from Statesville prison and Marlena admits surprise over Lucas risking it all. She's surprised that Sami still wants a chance with him and wonders how Sami feels about EJ. Roman's not sure but thinks she's better off without either man. Marlena wonders if they can help Lucas in order for Sami to have a chance to forgive him for his betrayal, and for their family to be whole. After much prodding, Roman agrees to try to help.
Sami goes in search of Lucas, at the mansion, in the dark. She searches for the ankle bracelet, and Marlena finds her in the great room. Sami asks why Marlena's crying. Marlena tells Sami she has lost John for good. She doesn't want a clean start, but John took away her hope. When John and Ava return from the lab, Sami blasts John. He tells her this is none of your business. Sami calls him a coward and a fool. John says Blondie knew the risks. Marlena agrees but knows there are people who could help - not a stranger. Sami lashes out and calls Ava a kidnapper and murderer and bickering goes on. John's memories mean nothing to him, much to Marlena's surprise. He finds it liberating, he admits. He and Ava go upstairs and Marlena says there is nothing more to discuss. She wants to talk about Sami's love life. Sami wants to spend her life with Lucas but can't erase what happened with EJ. She lets Marlena know that she told EJ they don't have a future. Since it's hot and she's having a bad night, Sami wants to get out. Marlena suggests a few places, including Salem Inn. They may have backup power, so Sami decides to head there. Marlena stays home.
Marlena finds her way into the lab once again and finds the disc split in two. She picks it up and refuses to give up on him.
In the lab, the lights flicker again and Ava takes the disc from the lab.
Rolf runs to the great room to tell John that someone has entered the lab.
John finds Ava in his lab and asks why she's there. The power outage locks the lab door and John can't override the locks. Ava admits she overheard Marlena and was worried she'd lose him.
Marlena finds her way to the lab and listens into Ava and John's conversation when she can't open the door. She hears Ava tell John to destroy the disc and yells at him not to. John starts throwing things around in his anger over Stefano.
At the DiMera mansion, Marlena and John argue about using the disc. Marlena calls Rolf and says they need to get to the lab and figure out what's on the disc. The doorbell rings and John excuses himself. He returns with Ava. Marlena isn't impressed and Ava turns to go, but John tells her, "No, I want you to stay." John wants Ava to weigh in on their discussion, though Marlena is unhappy with this. She doesn't want him to trivialize this by having a stranger here. Ava wants to leave, but John tells her to stay. Marlena finds what he's doing to be self-destructive. She asks that he take the disc seriously and Ava turns to leave. John tells her they're through talking and says it's amazing how one little disc can cause all this commotion. Ava thinks he should look into the disc and unlock the doors to himself. He's sure blondie would like it but he's not interested. Marlena has had enough and turns to leave. She hopes he comes to his senses and says the man he was is the only man worth being. She leaves and John is frustrated. Ava comes to John and he tells her he knows who he is now and what he wants. He kisses Ava. Ava thinks this feels right, but John stops things. He can't get his mind off the disc and hasn't made up his mind about what to do with it. She understands, but tells him to destroy the disc. He won't and needs to know. He's going to the lab to figure it out. She offers to go with him.
Victor finds Marlena at Chez Rouge. She's not in the mood for company but Victor wants to help. Marlena apologizes for being ungracious and thinks perhaps Philip can help her.
At the DiMera mansion, Marlena tells Rolf that he needs to tell them how to get John's memories back. She knows he did this to John. Rolf denies it and Lucas listens from the hallway. Rolf says they can't retrieve his memory but Marlena has done research and knows that it can be done. Lucas enters the room in awe. He wonders why John is so quiet. John's weighing his options. Marlena says she knows what's on it and it's a brain map of John's brain. They need Rolf's help. Marlena refuses to tell John who stole the disc. John thinks it's Philip and tells her he thought she was on his side. She reminds him this isn't a game and this disc can give them a future. Rolf denies knowing anything about computers and thinks Marlena wants the old John so badly, she'll believe anything. John doesn't want anyone to do anything with the disc until Marlena reveals her source. She refuses.
