Philip and Stephanie can’t get into the hotel. Stephanie gives Philip a nail file to jimmy the lock. They look up as they hear Melanie’ screams.
Meanwhile, Melanie tells Nick that he hasn’t ruined anything. She sees how much he has done for her and says they can leave now. Nick accuses her of lying. She begs him to trust her, but he tells her she’ll have to stay there. Melanie runs out the patio doors. Nick runs to her and grabs her. They struggle on the balcony and outside we see Hope and Bo have arrived. They yell for Nick and bust through the door as Melanie screams. She clutches at the balcony and goes over, hanging on for dear life!
At Maggie’s place, Hope tells Maggie and Bo that Melanie has left town and taken Nick with her. Bo calls for Max and Chelsea to come over and once they do, Bo explains what happened. Max assumes that Melanie is to blame, but asks if they’re certain that the two are going together. He recalls a discussion with Mel at the park. He told her that Nick was in love with her and it 'weirded her out'. “Why would she go away with him?” Bo makes a call and tells everyone that Nick got his prescription filled recently. In tears, Maggie shows Bo a note. “I saw you at the cemetery, I know what happened.” Chelsea wonders if Melanie wrote the note to herself and Maggie agrees. Hope says though the stationary is Maggie’s, the handwriting is what counts. Chelsea recognizes the handwriting as Nick’s!
At the station, Bo tells the police officers to make sure the kids know they’re not in trouble. They’re wanted for questioning. Hope interrupts and tells Bo she got a call from Chelsea. Hope shares Chelsea’s idea and Bo says Nick would want to make Melanie dependent on him. She worries about the painkillers and Nick’s mother’s history with them. Bo massages her and Hope realizes that the note says, “I know what happened,” not “I saw what you did.” Hope says the knife wounds were consistent with somebody over six feet tall. They think Nick did it and Melanie’s in trouble.
At Cheatin' Heart, Ray Jackson points at the photo of Nick. He saw him at the cemetery the night of Trent Robbins' murder. He remembers it clearly and asks if Hope will tell the DA he cooperated. Hope says she will, but will point out that only after they forced it out of him. Hope worries to Bo about Nick and what he's gotten himself into this time. They decide not to warn Nick that they're going to confront him and they wonder if he saw Melanie kill Trent. They assume Melanie's playing Nick!
Hope and Bo arrive at Maggie's place on an official visit, for Melanie. Maggie didn't see Nick's car in the driveway and calls to them. They're gone and she says since Melanie has moved in, Nick's always so worried about her. She's not sure where they are. Hope asks why she let Melanie move in with her. She thinks it's because she likes drama but really, she has been worried about Nick lately and thought that it would help him calm down. She becomes emotional as she tells them he's becoming agitated a lot and is taking painkillers. Hope remembers that Jessica took painkillers once. Maggie remembers that Jessica had a split personality and says it's not like that. Maggie admits he didn't say anything when she asked if he was on the drugs when he got the DUI. She suddenly panics that Nick could be driving right now, on those painkillers. Hope excuses herself to the bathroom while Bo comforts Maggie. Hope returns and tells them that Nick and Melanie have packed up and left.
Bo goes into his office and Hope tells him she can't stop thinking about Nicole telling them about the man at the cemetery she saw. Hope makes a call to the cemetery and tells Bo that Nicole's statement may pan out. Ray Jackson was on duty, unofficially, she says, according to one of her sources. Ray steals headstones and plaques from the graveyard and gets big money from the black market. Bo snickers.
Hope and Bo arrive at Cheatin' Heart and find Ray Jackson, who is about six feet. It has to be the guy Nicole saw, she says and they ask Ray to tell them the truth this time about being at the cemetery the night Trent Robbins was murdered. Ray says he wasn't on duty, but they know about his side business. He gives him a choice. Come to the station or spill. Ray admits he saw someone at the cemetery the night Trent Robbins was killed. He flicks through photos and points out Melanie and Nick and says he saw Nick at the cemetery.
Hope goes to Bo at the police station and they discuss how Nick's involvement with Melanie can only lead to disaster. They wonder if he's covering for her.
Nick lights candles on a birthday cake for Melanie and surprises her by screaming, "Surprise!" Melanie jumps nervously as she comes into the kitchen, and scares the wits out of her. Later, he apologizes for scaring her so much, especially since somebody's been stalking her. Melanie admits tonight she felt as though the anonymous caller was watching her. She wonders why he's doing this to her. "I think he likes knowing he can scare me and have that power over me," she says, but Nick is doubtful. Nick looks away when she threatens to kill whoever is doing this if she finds out! Melanie apologizes for being a downer and makes a wish and blows out her candles. She wants to cut the cake but Nick wants to know what her wish was. She can't tell him. "It won't come true!" Nick thinks he can make it come true, but Melanie doubts it. She says she wished she could find out who killed her father. Nick thinks it's best not to obsess about it and to move on, but Melanie's not obsessing. She doesn't want to think about it but she can't help it. It doesn't help that the caller upset her. She admits she'll always wonder if she killed her father if the cops don't find out who did it. "You didn't [kill him]," Nick says, and is shocked to hear that Melanie misses him, even though she hated him. "That doesn't mean I wanted him dead, or maybe it does and I just don’t remember." She tries to go to bed but he plies her with presents. He gives her a snow globe of Marseilles as a souvenir of when they met.
In their office, Hope and Bo go over Nicole's confession. Since she finally admitted she went to the cemetery with a gun and the intent to kill Trent, they wonder if she's lying about the man she claims to have seen at the cemetery, looking at headstones. Oddly, Bo admits he believes her but should have pushed harder the first time they confronted her. He asks if she's really that stupid, then says she's cunning. Hope says she didn't want them to know she was at the cemetery in the first place and they wonder if she knows the other person who was there and is protecting them. D.A. Jenkins calls for a breakfast meeting with Bo tomorrow and mentions she hopes the murder case will be wrapped up soon. Bo's not sure he's going to like this job, though Hope disagrees. Cops will have an easier time because he's at the top, she says and they can still work together. Hope announces she wants to go home, light candles and slip into a hot bath, but Bo wants to listen to Nicole's testimony again. "There's got to be something we've missed," he says and they realize Melanie's still a suspect. Hope mentions that EJ may have thought Nicole killed Trent. "He ain't stupid," replies Bo. They decide to find why all these people were all at the cemetery and why they all went to the cemetery that particular night. She thinks they're all linked. Bo moans and groans that he has back-to-back meetings all day tomorrow and thinks he should be out chasing bad guys. Hope reassures him they're closing in on Trent's case.
In the office, Hope makes a toast to 'Commissioner Brady'! She assures him she has no intention of asking for any special favors, but he grinningly says they shouldn't rule out all favors! They begin to kiss. Breaking apart, they discuss how he and Abe will try to rid the town of Stefano. Bo says they'll need her help. Just then, Bo takes a call from EJ saying Nicole is ready to talk. They head out.
