Abe is surprised to see Lexi at the hospital. He took the morning off to spend time with Theo. She switched shifts she says and they discuss the tension due to Theo's autism. Abe is down on himself and feels Lexi thinks he has failed his son. She feels bad for judging him, but he knows he's not as enlightened as she is. "I know you're trying," she encourages. Abe second guesses his reactions to everything Theo does, because of the pressure Lexi puts on him. Lexi is apologetic. They plan on spending the morning with him and Theo and the therapist come out of the therapy room. The session went well, says the therapist. Theo was confident on the swing today. "He was like Tarzan!" Theo plays, while the therapist tells them that work on the swing works with his vestibular system and he's very encouraged. Lexi tells Theo she's proud of him. "Proud," repeats her son. The therapist tells Abe that Theo's a pleasure. Lexi and Abe leave the room and Abe wants to celebrate by going to the park to get ice cream. Theo starts counting, "One two... One two…" Abe tells his son he's happy when they're together as a family, and Theo reaches for their hands.
Abe, Lexi and Theo relax at the park. Lexi mentions that she feels like a failure sometimes as well, and tells a story about how she had to take a break from Theo, during one of his tantrums. Theo notices a plane in the sky. "Boat," he calls. Lexi is surprised that he heard the plane, and explains how boats and planes are different. "Can you say plane?" He turns his attention to the grass and Abe shows Theo how boats float in the water and planes fly in the sky. Lexi and Abe see this as progress, and decide they need to tweak their own perception to see into his world.
Lexi brings Theo into his class at the hospital. She tells him there will be a different teacher and he balks at going in. Suddenly John comes barreling up the hall hollering about Marlena being missing when there's a psychopath on the loose! Lexi angrily tells him he is scaring her son! She gets Theo into class and returns to tell John that it appears Marlena has left the hospital. John is bitter and unimpressed. Lexi defends her staff, but John contends that Marlena is now in serious danger thanks to them! Lexi tries to alleviate his worry, but to no avail. He proclaims that he will find her himself!
At the hospital, Chelsea runs into Lexi. She asks if she ran into Daniel and gave him a chance to explain. Chelsea says that she can't get past this. "We're over. We're finished." Chelsea goes in and sits down with Theo. He notices the tears in her eyes and says, "Ouch." Chelsea smiles. "Yep. It's a big ouch." Theo holds out his arms and Chelsea takes the hug.
Daniel tells Chelsea that he and Kate are over. Kate apologizes to Chelsea, and Daniel tries to touch her. She pushes him away, and they're interrupted by Theo, who runs into Chelsea's arms. Lexi runs after him, calling his name. Close to tears, she asks him not to run away from her like that again. Chelsea tells Lexi it's okay. Since Theo has an appointment today, Chelsea offers to take him. Kate tries to interject, and when Theo cries for his mother, Lexi apologizes. Theo is having a bad day today. They leave and Chelsea asks why Kate had sex with her boyfriend. Daniel admits it was a fling. Chelsea doesn't feel better but Daniel says it happened well before they got together. Chelsea doesn't know why they didn't tell her sooner. Chelsea can't talk to them right now.
Lexi finds Daniel at the nurse's station, later. She asks what's going on. He admits he and Chelsea had a bump in the road but he doesn't want to discuss it. She reminds him that she confided in him. He tells her he slept with Kate a while ago, and Chelsea just found out. He's sure he screwed up the best thing that has happened to him in a long time. Lexi's surprised. "Glad you asked," he says sarcastically. It happened when Chelsea was his patient, and he blamed himself for the infection causing Chelsea's sterility. Lexi knows it was not his fault. He says when he found out, he got hammered and Kate just happened along. Lexi thinks Chelsea needs time to calm down. Later, Daniel and Kate commiserate, and Lexi and Chelsea discuss work and how much Chelsea loves what she does. Lexi asks if everything is alright but Chelsea doesn't want to talk. Lexi has advice. "There are always two sides to a story and you owe it to yourself to hear both sides." Later, Chelsea finds Kate and Daniel and tells them after her shift, they all need to talk.
Marlena wakes up and asks who John is. He tells her he's John Black. Marlena apologizes. Things are fuzzy, but she remembers everything. She recounts the events leading up to her attack, and becomes emotional when she remembers Stefano taunting her. John tells her she'll be alright. It's over. She flashes back to Stefano's taunts and Lexi arrives. Marlena can go home, but after a few tests. John wishes to remain there. Marlena passes her tests and asks to go home.
John takes Lexi aside and asks if Marlena can leave the hospital. Marlena's fine and asks why John keeps pretending to care about how she is. Lexi pulls John out of the room and asks him not to agitate her. They still don't know the residual effects from the toxins and need to take things slow. John goes back to Marlena and promises to protect her from Stefano. He apologizes for upsetting her but he wants her to go home with him. She can't do it.
John enters Marlena's hospital room and asks Lexi if Marlena has a fever. Lexi told him to stay out. She can't reassure him. She notices her brain activity spike. Sami arrives and Lexi thinks Marlena's regaining consciousness. Sami rushes to her side, but she doesn't wake up. Lexi plans to run more tests on her and Lexi shows John the antidote for the toxins that Stefano's man allegedly poisoned her with. John tells her there is nothing alleged about this. Lexi looks down, uncomfortably, and Sami thanks her for all she has done. They aren't sure who saved Marlena's life, but it wasn't Kayla, who synthesized the drug. John is confused. Sami says she can tell John cares about her mom. "You love her, don't you?" He doesn't understand love, he admits. Sami tells him he'll know it when he feels it, and it'll break his heart when he feels like he's losing someone he loves. John admits he's been even more concerned about Blondie since Stefano targeted her during the lock down. He's not sure if it's love. Sami asks if he's hung up on Ava. John doesn't answer, so Sami assumes he's leading Marlena on and asks him to let her go. John asks her to stop. He's trying to process everything that has happened over the last few weeks, unsuccessfully. Sami apologizes. She's in no position to judge, since she's not the only one on shaky ground when it comes to romance. Sami grins and John laughs. Sami needs to see her kids. John hopes Marlena will be awake when she returns. Sami says goodbye to Marlena and tells her to fight. "She's got to get better," says John, to God. He wants to make a deal with anyone just so Marlena can get back on her feet. He tells Blondie to wake up. He has something important she might want to hear. John admits that her pain, caused by him, affected him residually. He tells her she's important to him and needs to come back to him. Lexi arrives with the results. John worries. "Is she going to be okay?" She should be! Suddenly, Marlena opens her eyes. She doesn't speak. John welcomes her home and tells her these past few hours were strange. He thinks about his discussion with old John. He tells her he knows what to do now. He wants to try to work on their relationship. "And maybe even their marriage." He asks her what she thinks. He calls her Doc, and thinks a part of the old him is inside him, just like she wanted. Marlena finally speaks. "Who are you?"
Lexi updates Abe. Most patients have been moved to County Hospital, and Roman tells them that the ventilation system is working on the seventh floor they wonder what's going on up there.
EJ and Sami continue to kiss, in the stairwell. Nicole watches on the surveillance camera once again. Nicole walks away, upset. Roman notices, and asks what's up. She says nothing. The Salem PD try to reconnect the phone lines.
Lexi asks Abe if he thinks her father is behind this. Abe wonders if he was faking it. This is too coincidental. Lexi agrees. They'll catch him and he'll be sorry he ever awoke from the coma.
Kate finds Roman. She needs news about Lucas. Roman admits Stefano is up there and he could be awake and active. Kate worries that Stefano will go after Lucas. Roman reassures her that they're doing all they can. Kate, Lexi, Nicole, Roman and Abe find EJ and Sami on the surveillance camera. Kate knew something was going on between them and says Lucas is better without her. Nicole listens in from nearby.
Lexi asks Kate for an update but she has none. Kate thinks if Stefano is behind this, he'll go after Lucas. Lexi wishes she had better news for Kate, but she agrees. Stefano will go after anyone he thinks wronged him.
Downstairs, Lexi wants to examine EJ and Sami. Abe and Roman prepare to break in and arrest Stefano, if he's found up there. Sami tells Lexi and Kate what happened up there, this whole time and that Marlena is responsible for paralyzing Stefano, and he is who returned the favor to Marlena. Lexi is shocked. EJ holds Sami, as Nicole watches quietly from the doorway. Sami tells Kate she's sure Lucas will be okay, but Kate doesn't think she cares.
Sami and EJ go into an examination room and Lexi stops Nicole. Though she doesn't know her well, she feels for her and if there is any way Nicole can get her brother away from Sami, she has her blessing! Nicole doesn't have the strength to fight anymore, she says. EJ returns to tell Lexi that Sami's ready. He hugs Nicole. "I didn't know you were here!" He tells her that his father is awake. She comments about what she saw on the surveillance camera. The visual is burned deep in his brain.
Lexi finishes examining Sami. She will have the results back soon. Sami worries about the others, but Lexi assures her they'll be fine. She goes to check on Sami's blood results. She bumps into a nurse, who tells her the police are about to break down the door to the seventh floor. Kate continues to worry.
Later, Nicole rants at EJ that everything he said about them getting together no longer applies, after what she saw. EJ tries to get a word in edgewise, but she won't let him. He meant all that he said to her, he says. They're interrupted by Lexi and Sami. Lexi tells EJ that Sami's fine. Her blood tests came back normal. They share a private glance between them, and Sami urges EJ to get examined. He leaves, with Lexi and Sami following, as Nicole mopes.
Nicole tries to talk a security guard into letting her go upstairs, but he tells her he's sorry - it's completely locked down! Nearby, Roman and Abe discuss the list of who is up there. Abe is astounded to learn that Stefano DiMera's name is on the list and that Roman suspects that he may be behind all of this! "He's in a coma! He can't possibly have anything to do with this." Lexi pipes up, "Don't be so sure!" She explains that he could have come out of his catatonic state - his latest tests show increased brain activity! Roman says that even if he is awake, how did he engineer a lock-down. Abe notes that with the DiMeras nothing is impossible! Philip brings coffee to Nicole, and he reiterates that she is wasting her time worrying about E.J. She says she regrets telling him her feelings. Philip says every form of communication on that floor has been disabled - that means this is more than just a malfunction. As Roman and Abe go over blueprints, Philip strides over and asks what they've got. As they discuss the situation, Nicole realizes that Sami and E.J. were together when they came into the hospital. She is downcast. "I thought he was visiting his father alone." Lexi asks if she is upset about E.J. coming to the hospital with Sami. Nicole says she's just surprised because she thought he wanted nothing to do with her. Lexi says she can see Nicole has feelings for her brother, but she's surprised - E.J. doesn't have any money! Lexi says she doesn't mean to hurt Nicole, but it's obvious that E.J. only has feelings for Sami - and that's not changing anytime soon! Nicole says the only thing Sami wants is Lucas and she just keeps hurting E.J.! Lexi says they need to concentrate on getting through this situation. Just then, Roman is told there might be a break - they've been able to tie the camera feed from the seventh floor into the feed at the nurses' desk!
