At the hospital, Kayla cries that she needs to see her baby boy but Lexi explains he's on a ventilator in neonatal and neither she nor Steve can see him yet. Dr. Elman, Steve and Lexi urge Kayla to rest and Lexi goes to check on the baby. Steve leaves the room while Dr. Elman examines Kayla.

Max gets Stephanie coffee and comforts her. Steph thinks they need a miracle for her little baby brother and asks Chelsea to find out if Daniel could help them. Chelsea considers Lexi would call if she thought he could help, but agrees to talk to Daniel. Max tells her that her little brother is a fighter. Steve leaves Kayla's room and hugs Stephanie, as both of them sob. Dr. Elman leaves Kayla's room and tells Steve Kay's on 24 hour bed rest. She'll return with more news later.

Daniel works out at the gym when Lexi shows up. She asks him to consult on another patient but he's not interested. Lexi accuses him of having feelings for Chelsea and tells him she doesn't want to lose him as a doctor. Daniel says maybe she should know what happened with his last patient. As soon as the words are out, he clams up. Lexi asks him to talk about it and he tells her she was not just one of his patients, "She was my wife," he says. They lived in Miami and met at the hospital. He tells the story about how beautiful the woman was and how intrigued he was.

At the gym, Daniel is in the middle of telling Lexi about this cancer patient who he says he was crazy about. Even with his knowledge, he confesses he thought he could will her to get well. He says she suffered but never stopped smiling. At the pub, Victor says Daniel called him and told him he was going to marry her. Victor wasn't sure it was good idea. Later that night, she took a turn for the worse. Daniel continues at the gym with Lexi and says that she was in pain and they could do nothing. He says he couldn't handle watching her die and took her to the beach, where he knew she'd feel happy. Victor tells Chelsea that Rebecca died that night. Daniel was heartbroken and lost himself in his work and vowed never to put himself in that situation again. Chelsea chastises herself for pushing Daniel and Victor tells her whatever happens is for the best. Tears in her eyes, she leaves the pub while Daniel tells Lexi he can't go through that again. Lexi holds his hand as she tells him he can't keep running away.

Dragged from the River.

Abe arrives at University Hospital to meet with Lexi, who informs him they've an appointment with a therapist. Roman arrives and Lexi tells the men that she's releasing Ava Vitali as she's not in immediate danger. We see Ava sitting in her hospital bed while Lexi explains that Ava's medically fit to face the consequences for her actions.

What Kind of Life is That?

At the hospital, Lexi talks to Daniel and asks if he's leaving Salem to catch a wave or to get away from his feelings for Chelsea. Daniel gets a private call, but the caller (Chelsea) hangs up after hearing his voice. Lexi asks Daniel to stay in Salem.

Lexi visits Ava and tells her according to her chart, things are looking much better. She asks her to rest, but Ava is curious about where her father and Steve are.

Difference Between a Crock Pot and a Flower Pot.

In Ava's room, Kayla, Lexi, Abe and Steve show up with the results of Ava's drugs. Detoxing, and more than a little out of sorts, Ava thinks this is an invasion of her privacy. Kayla's Ava's doctor now, she explains. Ava wants Dr. Nusbaum and her pills but Kayla refuses and tells her the pills are making her worse. Lexi says, "They cause anxiety, paranoia and mood swings. It's anti-seizure medication and in Ava's case, it's potentially dangerous." Ava doesn't believe this. Steve asks if she knows a reason why Dr. Nusbaum wouldn't want her to get better. Ava admits that something happened that she can't remember. She apologizes for letting Steve down and Lexi asks everyone to leave, so they can calm Ava down. Ava starts screaming.

Outside Ava's room, Kayla says in spite of everything, she wants Ava to recover. They'll talk to her later and perhaps her memory will improve. Steve thinks there is a lot that Ava wants to share. Abe is surprised that Kayla cares but Kayla's a doctor and she doesn't believe that Ava knew what she was taking. Steve agrees. Abe's not that forgiving! Kayla suggests that Abe check out Dr. Nusbaum. Steve and Abe leave and Lexi suggests to Kayla that she tell Steve "the news" about Ava, since he'll find out soon, anyway. Steve returns and Kayla tells Steve that Kayla tried to take her own life, after he left her at the altar. Steve is taken aback and Kayla admits she knew he'd blame himself so she kept it from him. Steve weeps and asks if he can see Ava - with Kayla.

Steve and Kayla go into Ava's room, where she is calmer, yet confused about where she is. Kayla tells her she's in a hospital. Ava is surprised that Kayla is helping her, considering everything that she did to Kayla and her family. Steve reminds her that the drugs were the cause.


Outside Ava's room, Kayla tells Abe and Lexi that Ava's resting. Lexi knows Ava's got a tough road ahead of her with the detox. Abe takes a call and tells Lexi that there was a body found behind the alley at the Cheatin' Heart. He leaves.

Take Care of Them, Daddy. Kill Them. Kill Them all…

Abe and Lexi arrive at the pub and sit at a table nearby. Abe enjoyed dinner last night but they admit their sadness that they were both so tired last night and Lexi now has to be quick, since Chelsea's on her way home from the hospital today and she needs to be there. Lexi thinks that for this week they should put their special morning on hold but Abe thinks his work can wait and talks Lexi into sticking to their special mornings. Lexi feels like things are forced between them but Abe reminds her of their busy schedules. When Lexi suggests counseling, Abe agrees. "I don't want to lose you," he says. They take off to the hospital, where Abe wants to speak with Ava.

Lexi arrives at the hospital and takes Chelsea to put a rush on her prescription. Later, she wheels Chelsea to Hope and Bo and before they leave, Dr. Daniel says goodbye. Chelsea gives him the cold shoulder but thanks him for all he has done and Daniel says just because he's not her doctor anymore, doesn't mean they can't be friends. Chelsea doesn't answer and they leave. After they go, Lexi overhears Daniel say, "I can't. I can't let it happen…."

Back at the hospital, Lexi asks Dr. Daniel if he wants to talk. He refuses. He plans on taking the rest of the day off and then he hesitates momentarily and lets Lexi know that his work at University Hospital is done. He's leaving town! Later, Daniel sits at the pub and makes flight and hotel arrangements to go to Sydney Australia.
