(Film Noir) Back at home, EJ and Nicole are beginning to make love when there is a knock at the door. Roman and Abe bust in and announce that they are there to arrest her for the murder of Samantha Horton. She begs EJ to help her get out of this jam, and asks if he'll wait for her, but he says, "Sorry, Dollface". They tell her she is going to the electric chair.
In his office, Abe speaks to someone on the telephone about how dangerous it is to have Stefano DiMera walking around free. He hangs up and tells Bo and Hope that Stefano has certainly paid off the right people! Hope muses that she really thought they had him this time. They all wonder why John decided not to press charges. Abe laments how he has spent almost his entire career trying to bring Stefano down, and yet he's still free and living this opulent lifestyle! Bo and Hope look at one another as they note Abe's intensity. Abe acknowledges that the stress with Theo is getting to him. Just then, Lexi arrives. Hope gives her a hug before she and Bo leave. Lexi tells Abe she heard what he said about Theo. He admits that it's frustrating sometimes - he's not sure that anything he's doing with Theo is helping, and it's bleeding over into work. Lexi says she can relate to that. He wonders if they should take some vacation time. Just then, Lexi takes a call from the hospital - she's missed a meeting! She tells Abe what happened and admits she's been making a lot of mistakes lately. He takes her in his arms. Lexi says she feels like a failure, but Abe says they have to give her some leeway - Theo needs a lot of attention right now! He asks what he can do to help, but she says she'll just have to balance everything better. Just then, Lexi gets a page telling her that she has been summoned to appear before the review board!
At the hospital, Daniel offers to let Lexi unload her problems on him. He says she listened to him and he'd like to return the favor. Sighing, she tells him about the challenges with Theo and how she and Abe aren't on the same page. He gives her a hug and Abe comes around the corner and sees them. Awkwardness ensues as Abe warns Daniel to stay away from his wife! He asks him to keep things professional from hereon out. Lexi asks Daniel to excuse them. She questions Abe's behavior, and he implies that she may be having an affair since the past several months she's been pulling away from him. Lexi is stunned. "You immediately assume we're having an affair?" Abe says he seen them be close before. She protests that they are merely friends, but Abe's not sure he believes that!
In therapy, Abe and Lexi are asked to address the issue of Lexi's infidelity once and for all! Abe says he thought that he had overcome his feelings, but she has been distant for months - and she's developed a closeness with Dr. Jonas! Lexi cries. She doesn't want to talk about her affairs when she's lost her little boy! The counselor asks what she means. She tells them about her daydream that Theo was normal, and how she felt when it ended. "Why does he have to have Autism? Why did this have to happen to him? Why?" The counselor leaves them alone to talk. Abe puts his arm around her and thanks her for being honest. She says she feels like a horrible mother. He disagrees - they both just want what is best for Theo. She says she feels hopeless. Abe notes that there are no answers for them - they just have to do what's best for Theo and themselves.
In the park, Lexi plays with Theo as Abe arrives with coffee. He watches as Lexi becomes frustrated trying to teach him how the dump truck works. Abe warns her that she can't push it. She stands up and sighs. He urges her to slow down a little. She says she refuses to sit around and do nothing! Just then, Kayla and Patch arrive with the baby. Steve kneels down to interact with Theo. When Theo refuses to answer any of Steve's questions, Lexi becomes impatient. "Theo!" Kayla and Lexi step away and Lexi confides that she and Abe aren't seeing eye-to-eye about Theo. Kayla assures her that she's a good mother, but Lexi says, "Not anymore." She cries that she can't handle this. Kayla tells her it's even more difficult being a doctor and not being able to do anything. Lexi says she has other stress too - her father coming back and the ordeal at the hospital. She tells Kayla she would give anything for her little boy to be like everybody else! Kayla listens as Lexi expresses how overwhelmed she is with Theo's condition. Kayla urges her to stay happy and give Theo lots of love. Abe and Steve also compare notes too, and Steve makes a comment about how the kids will take care of themselves when they get older. Realizing his gaffe, Steve apologizes. Abe says no one should tip toe around the fact that Theo is autistic. He tells Steve how frustrated Lexi is that Theo will not show affection - it may never happen! As Lexi and Abe prepare to leave the park, Theo puts up a fuss. As people stare, they finally calm him down. Lexi is more stressed than ever, as she sits and imagines what it would be like if Theo were not autistic.
Roman, Hope and Abe meet in Abe's office at the station and discuss how Stefano is behind various things, but they have no solid evidence. They note that Stefano held John against his will, but John could only file civil charges against him for it. Abe laments that it seems Stefano has connections everywhere!
Philip and Morgan are in Bo's office. Morgan wants to see Paul but Bo tells her it will take awhile. She tells Philip that she won't forgive him just because he didn't actually kill her father. Bo takes Philip aside and says just because Paul was found alive, doesn't mean they're off the hook - Internal Affairs will be asking him about the recording! Just then, John walks in. "I received a call about Paul Hollingsworth. Is there something I can do to help?" Bo asks John to just come clean about what he did to Paul. John scoffs, "Why don't you tell me why Stefano is in my house and not behind your bars after everything he's done!" Bo agrees that Stefano deserves to be behind bars. John asks what they can do about it. Abe and Roman come in and urge John to press civil charges against Stefano. Abe tells Bo it's time to talk to Internal Affairs. They leave, and John asks Roman why the D.A. isn't pressing charges against Stefano. Roman tells John that he should be more worried about himself - he is still a suspect in the Hollingsworth case! At that point, Paul is brought in and reunited with Morgan. Paul tells Philip it's his lucky day. Roman asks Paul if it's true he left town of his own volition and if it is also true that he is pleading guilty to planting drugs on John's ship and to starting the fire. Paul confirms it's all in his statement. Roman asks John to leave the room. He then tells Paul that Morgan said he told her his life was in danger when he left town. He 'theorizes' that John held him captive, but Paul says it's not true. Roman then asks where Paul got the large amount of cocaine. He urges Paul to consider telling the truth - that Philip paid for the drugs - that way he can cut him a deal! Paul tells Roman that Philip wasn't involved and he was not coerced by anyone to commit those deeds. Roman is disappointed and says he knows he's covering - he just doesn't know why. He urges Paul to think about his daughter. Paul cryptically assures him that he is! Paul is taken down to holding, but stops to say goodbye to Morgan. She begs him to tell the truth, but he merely tells her to be strong and take care of herself. Philip tries to comfort her but she brushes him off. She turns to Roman and asks him to help her father. Roman asks Philip if he has anything to say.
Abe is surprised to see Lexi at the hospital. He took the morning off to spend time with Theo. She switched shifts she says and they discuss the tension due to Theo's autism. Abe is down on himself and feels Lexi thinks he has failed his son. She feels bad for judging him, but he knows he's not as enlightened as she is. "I know you're trying," she encourages. Abe second guesses his reactions to everything Theo does, because of the pressure Lexi puts on him. Lexi is apologetic. They plan on spending the morning with him and Theo and the therapist come out of the therapy room. The session went well, says the therapist. Theo was confident on the swing today. "He was like Tarzan!" Theo plays, while the therapist tells them that work on the swing works with his vestibular system and he's very encouraged. Lexi tells Theo she's proud of him. "Proud," repeats her son. The therapist tells Abe that Theo's a pleasure. Lexi and Abe leave the room and Abe wants to celebrate by going to the park to get ice cream. Theo starts counting, "One two... One two…" Abe tells his son he's happy when they're together as a family, and Theo reaches for their hands.
Abe, Lexi and Theo relax at the park. Lexi mentions that she feels like a failure sometimes as well, and tells a story about how she had to take a break from Theo, during one of his tantrums. Theo notices a plane in the sky. "Boat," he calls. Lexi is surprised that he heard the plane, and explains how boats and planes are different. "Can you say plane?" He turns his attention to the grass and Abe shows Theo how boats float in the water and planes fly in the sky. Lexi and Abe see this as progress, and decide they need to tweak their own perception to see into his world.
Abe arrives at Salem PD. The mayor and governor informed him that Stefano should be let go. Some very serious strings are being pulled. He uncuffs Stefano, who finds this entertaining. "So much to do, so little time," he says cryptically and leaves.
Philip arrives to Bo and Hope's table with an apology for being late. He wants to take responsibility for his actions, but Bo says nobody knows what was on the tape yet. Philip thinks it was wrong of Victor to guilt Bo into that situation, but Bo takes responsibility for his part. Suddenly, a woman arrives with papers for Philip. He reads them and finds out he has been subpoenaed by the grand jury.
Nearby, Hope sits with Morgan they discuss what happened at the church and Morgan is angry that Philip threatened to kill her father. Hope says he's a Kiriakis, and may have Victor's ambition and drive, but he's no killer.
Abe arrives at Brady pub and he tells Bo he needs that tape. Bo tells Abe that Philip was subpoenaed for what happened down at the docks. Bo knows Philip is a suspect in the investigation but he is innocent. He is sure John has something to do with this.
