Lexi plays with Theo at the park until Chelsea drops by. She's been looking forward to their play date, she says and he nods when she asks if his trucks are new. Lexi is thrilled Chelsea can spend time with Theo outside of work. They discuss Lacey's actions and Lexi thinks the mayor put her up to it. She wants nothing to do with Abe becoming mayor, but Chelsea convinces her not to give up. They discuss Daniel and Lexi asks if they're over. Chelsea can't get over things and Lexi asks her not to close her heart off to him. She asks if Chelsea can try to forgive him, otherwise, she won't be at peace.
At the pub, Abe and Evan are disgusted when they read the paper and what the mayor said about Abe's family. It's about to get worse, says Evan. The mayor has learned about Lexi's past indiscretions and is about to make them public.
Lexi shows up at the pub, later, and tells Abe that Chelsea convinced her not to give up on Abe running for mayor! Abe is thrilled and they hug, with him telling her how much he loves her.
At the park, Lacey meets with Lexi who decides to fire her. Lexi explains after what happened with Theo yesterday, she has no choice. Lacey explains that all she did was turn her back for a second, but Lexi says Lacey shouldn’t have turned her back at all. Lacey pleads for another chance. Lexi says she wouldn’t have another chance if something bad happened to Theo. In tears, Lacey begs Lexi not to fire her, saying she needs the money. Abe walks in and offers Lacey her final paycheck. Lacey storms off. Lexi hopes Lacey can let it go and move on. Abe says they made the best decision for their family.
At Chez Rouge, Lexi, Abe, and Theo walk in for Abe’s campaign speech. Maggie takes Theo away for cookies. Lexi admits to Abe that every time she looks at Theo, she thinks about losing him. Abe comforts her and Lexi says she’s so proud of his campaign. Abe promises that nothing will stop him from winning this race. Abe talks with his campaign manager, as Lexi tells Maggie what happened with Lacey and Theo. Maggie offers to help out with Theo, and cheerily says that Lexi will need to find a sitter soon, since the Carver household will be busy once Abe is elected as mayor.
At Chez Rouge, Abe’s campaign manager, Evan, introduces Abe. Mayor Mariano watches the speech from his office. Abe thanks everyone for coming, while Lacey watches from the crowd. Lacey suddenly interrupts, yelling that Abe’s a man who blames innocent people for his mistakes and lets “his pushy wife walk all over him.” The press turns to Lacey and she tells everyone how she was Theo’s babysitter until she was fired. She talks about Theo’s diagnosis and how his parents were too busy to care, so Theo’s care was left up to herself. Lexi screams that it’s not true. Lacey accuses Lexi of being jealous of Abe’s sexual attraction to Lacey. Maggie angrily demands for someone to get Lacey out of there. Lacey accuses the Carvers of using autism as a way to not discipline Theo. She tells the press about what happened in the park. Lexi yells that Lacey is telling lies. An amused Mayor Mariano is still watching, and clapping in his office. Lacey asks how Abe is going to run the city if he can’t control his own son? Lacey says Salem needs a good mayor and Abe’s not that man. The press swarm around Abe who tells Evan that Mariano put Lacey up to this. Abe swears that he will fight Mariano until he wins. Lexi interrupts and says no he won’t, she can’t handle hearing lies about her son. She apologizes to Abe, takes Theo, and leaves.
At the park, Abe and Lexi yell at Lacey, and she recounts what led to Theo disappearing. She apologizes, but Lexi is a mess. She thinks someone may have abducted him and screams at Lacey, "And if they have, it'll be your fault. How in the hell could you let this happen?" Lacey feels guilty and when officer John shows up with Theo's hat, which was found near the road, Lexi clutches it and sobs, "Oh my God, oh my God." Lacey and Officer John go in search of the boy.
Lexi, Abe and Theo go back to the park and Abe reprimands Theo for leaving Lacey, then takes him for ice cream. Abe says they should be proud of their son for being able to find the hospital and Chelsea. They say he had genuine affection for Chelsea and has formed a bond, but when Abe asks Theo for a hug, he ignores him. "One step at a time," says Abe, with a chuckle.
Lexi and Abe take Theo to the park. He says, "Zoo." Lexi thinks this means he wants his giraffe, and when Lacey, the sitter, turns up, she gives Theo snacks then Lexi and Abe say goodbye to Theo. They've got a meeting to attend. Later, the babysitter, Lacey, gossips on the phone to her friends while little Theo wanders off.
Abe and Lexi arrive at Chez Rouge. Scott Gamson and Evan meet him there to discuss Abe becoming the mayor. "Mayor Carver," says Lexi. Mayor Mariano stops by and comments that the rumors are true! Abe admits it's true, but Mariano says, "We'll see about that." Abe tries to shake the mayor's hand for a clean fight, but all the mayor can do is tell Scott and Evan that he's surprised they're backing the wrong person! He baits Abe and Lexi by recounting their private issues, and promises to enjoy the race. Once he leaves, Evan says they'll go toe to toe, shot for shot, and Abe says he can't wait to get in there and put a stop to this. Scott says the mayor likely was baiting him to get photos of him getting angry. Abe's lucky he didn't take the bait!
