Tony goes to Stefano. "Why'd you do it?" Stefano asks if she's alright. Tony is sickened that it brings Stefano so much satisfaction to hurt others. Tony thinks if Marlena did hurt him, she did so to protect her family. She's now fighting for her life, he yells. Stefano reminds Tony that he's been tortured for months. Tony wonders why he bothers and Stefano tells him to get out of his sight. The two start yelling at each other and Tony yells that Stefano's about power and revenge. Stefano thinks Tony's a fool and this is about family. "Our family was attacked," he says and Tony had better decide whose side he's on. The lines are about to be drawn. Stefano has more in store.
Miss You Most of All, Scarecrow...
In the hospital, Stefano tells Tony and EJ that he's not sure who he can trust. Both his sons betrayed him. He tells them he's waiting for the right moment to make his grand reentry, and tells them about how he heard all that John said when he visited him, the first time, in the hospital. He flashes back to John telling him that they're half brothers! Stefano has a lot of information from the past few months, he says and EJ and Tony tell Stefano that John is brash and bitter these days. Stefano wonders what Marlena must be going through, and asks why they sold him out to Marlena and Salem. EJ thought that he'd get in good with Samantha. Stefano's upset but his priorities lie elsewhere. He's making certain that the person responsible for his being there pays, dearly. EJ is confused as to who that would be. They can help him retaliate. Stefano says she's been taken care of. "Marlena Evans did this to me, and now I'm going to make sure she pays." Tony and EJ don't believe him but she tried to ruin his life and he's returning the favor.
Bo and Hope Renew Their Vows...
EJ and Tony rush into the DiMera mansion, late for a meeting. Lexi wants to know what's going on with the two of them. Lexi is supposed to be at Bo and Hope's wedding but she demands to know why they've both a change of heart, regarding Stefano. She wonders if they're fighting her because they don't want Stefano to wake up. Tony thinks they need to let sleeping dogs lie and EJ agrees. Lexi sighs. She tells them Stefano should be awake and EJ asks her to allow it to happen naturally. She begs off. She has to go to the wedding and they'll talk about this later.
EJ visits Stefano and asks him to wake up. He needs to speak to him again. Tony comes in behind him "Again? So you know he's conscious!" The men take their argument outside and find out Stefano has lied to them both. EJ suggests they find out and return inside. Stefano is unresponsive. Eventually, he opens his eyes.
Stab him in his Black Heart!
Inside Stefano's room, Lexi wonders why her father is not awake and Tony asks, "Who says he isn't?" Tony thinks Stefano's biding his time until he makes his move. Lexi knows it'll take months before he can even move, physically. He'll need physical therapy. Lexi leaves Tony alone and Stefano wakes up. "Anthony. Anthony!" Tony is startled and wants to get Lexi, but Stefano stops him and asks him not to tell anyone that he's awake. "Do this for me and all will be forgiven," he promises. He hasn't been awake the whole time, he says, but tells Tony that if he's to survive, the person who did this to him can't find out he's awake. Anna barges in. "Oh God, I don't believe it!" She hopes Stefano doesn't wake up and pulls out a cross. She thinks they might be able to stab him in his black heart if he wakes up! Tony pulls her out of the room and tells her Stefano's awake. He tries to get her to keep quiet, but Anna yells it out and John and Lexi overhear. They're astounded! Tony lies and says he's sure that Stefano could hear everything they're saying, but that he's not actually awake. After the others leave, Anna asks why he lied. Tony promised he'd never lie to his bride, but also promised Stefano, he'd keep quiet.
EJ visits Stefano in his room. It's hard to see him like this, he admits. Stefano is seen as indestructible and EJ's sorry they had to send him away. He hopes Stefano will forgive him someday. He says Johnny takes after Stefano and he hopes Stefano can see him soon. Stefano opens his eyes. "Elvis." EJ's surprised and wants to get Lexi or a nurse, but Stefano won't let him. EJ says Lexi's his daughter but Stefano tells him the jury's out on that as it is with Tony and EJ. EJ asks how his father feels. Stefano says he can move a little. He's getting stronger. EJ is stunned and Stefano admits he heard everything EJ said. He demands obedience from EJ. He's not to tell anyone that he's awake. EJ promises, though he's reluctant to do so. John and Tony arrive. John wants to give Stefano an overdose of anti-psychotic drugs and do away with him but neither Tony, nor EJ, approve. Lexi arrives and says since Stefano should be conscious; she needs to run a pain test on his body to get reaction. Tony and EJ squirm. Lexi hopes Stefano will give her a sign that he feels pain. Stefano opens his eyes wide, when he is pricked. John exclaims, "I knew it!" That does not prove anything, Lexi says. It could have been a muscle spasm. John calls Stefano a master at deceit. Lexi will need to run more tests and asks them to step outside.
Outside, Lexi needs to discuss other treatment options. Specialists agree that electro-therapy (ECT) is a good idea. Tony and EJ disagree, vehemently, while John expresses great interest. There are other treatments, says Lexi. They'll leave it a few days and revisit. Lexi can see something is going on with the two of them and asks if there is something she needs to know!
I Will Have My Revenge.
EJ and Tony visit Stefano at the hospital. EJ isn't certain he believes Stefano will come out of the coma, but Tony thinks if Stefano wakes up, he'll take down anyone who put him there! Kayla examines a comatose Stefano and explains that an increase in brain activity could mean Stefano could come out of the coma and be perfectly normal. She leaves to check on tests and Tony thinks Stefano's probably up to something, even as they speak. They go back and forth with ideas about how Stefano will feel when he wakes up, and Tony points out that Stefano may not be happy to find that EJ works for John. They comment that Stefano will try to take back his empire and Kayla returns, unhappy to hear that. She tells the men that the seizure could mean he's cognizant and wants Lexi to examine him. They'll monitor his progress and keep him there until they find out what caused the seizure. John arrives, "I heard the bastard might be waking up," he says. He goes to Stefano and whispers, "What are you plotting now?" Kayla thinks John may hear him. He also may have brain damage. John leaves and Kayla thinks it could also be a sign of deterioration. They need to sign more tests. Tony leaves the room to call Anna and EJ contemplates. Nicole interrupts and EJ hugs her close. He explains what's happening with his father, but isn't feeling that there will be a positive outcome. Nicole apologizes. EJ shares that he finally felt like his own man and if Stefano wakes up, there will be hell to pay.
Marlena goes to Stefano and tells him she's there. She's not sure how the stroke affected him but guesses he can still hear her. She wonders if he remembers what she did to him. She wants him to know she would do it again in a heartbeat! Stefano wakes up, looks at her through half closed eyes and his heart rate spikes. Lexi races in with EJ and Tony in tow. In his head, Stefano murmurs, "Prepare yourself. I will have my revenge."
Stefano's out of Long Term Care.
Chelsea, Theo and Lexi arrive at the hospital. Chelsea offers to take Theo to therapy. Lexi is thrilled when Theo gives her a big hug, before they leave. He counts to five as they leave and Tony arrives, out of breath and asks if she has heard. He realizes she hasn't and after they're briefly interrupted by Kate, saying goodbye, Tony tells a shocked Lexi that Stefano had a seizure and was taken out of long term care. He is taken to Salem U and there is a chance he could come out of the coma!
EJ is summoned to the hospital by Tony and Lexi. He's told that Stefano is coming to University Hospital.
