Quote Coledog: bmes, so sorry, for some reason I thought you lived in California, must be thinking of someone else. That is very cool you live in British Columbia. How close are you to Vancouver? Everyone I know who has been there says how beautiful Vancouver is and what a great city it is. I have only ever been to Toronto in Canada but I would love to visit Vancouver someday! Now all the wildlife makes more sense! All the fruits and veggies you mentioned sound delicious! What is borscht? Ladybam, I am the one that is always handing out garden goodies to family. I swear I think they run and hide when I come with my zucchini because I always get too many and I swear those things could survive a nucular war!! I'm about 5-6 hours from Vancouver. I have alot of family on the coast and on Vancouver Island too, so we go there often. Vancouver is a really great city, but I would NEVER want to live there. I'm not a big city person. i prefer smaller towns. Kelowna was even way too busy for me. but Vancouver is a beautiful place to visit. the winter olympics will be there... 2010 is coming fast!!! so i'm sure they'll be showing alot of the city on tv!! borscht is a cabbage/veggie type soup. there's ukranian borscht which i don't care for too much...it's mostly just beets, cabbage and i think pork too....i don't like it. BUT the Russian borscht is cabbage and a whole lot of other veggies, cut up and shredded up real fine...one beet mostly just for a bit of color, and some cream and some dill. it's the best damn thing you'll ever taste, and my hubby's grandma is the MASTER of borscht!! lol..and she loved me enough to give me her recipe!!!! i'm so damn lucky!! |

Swine Flu has come to my area!!! Yesterday morning, my granddaughter, age 14, had a terrible headache, (which she also had the day before) and stayed out of school with me. Along with the headache she had a little coughing. Her temp was 99.4f Her mother works at a doctors office and they called in an Rx for Tamaflu to be given (it is taken by mouth). Taking the Tamiflu even when the diagnosis isn't confirmed is still the best way to go according to the doctors here. Today she is coughing frequently, aches all over, and her legs are aching badly. (joints are usually involved) No headache today. Appetite okay, mild sore throat from coughing a lot today. |

(joints are usually involved) No headache today. Appetite okay, mild sore throat from coughing a lot today. The typical symptoms are sudden coughing and elevated temperature. (100.4f or greater) Other symptoms include headache, tiredness, chills, aching muscles, limb or joint pain, diarrhea or upset stomach, sore throat, runny nose, sneezing, or loss of appetite. Remember....cases of Swine Flu may only have a few of these symptoms. My GD's temp has been around 99.4f, but her normal temp is 97.7f year around. So that is almost 2 degrees, for her. For those whose have a normal temp of 98.6 + 2 degrees = 100.6. Early doses of Tamiflu are effective in helping people recover sooner. I am glad that I had already done my homework on the Swine Flu! It is not definate that she has the Swine Flu as test results (we didn't do) have to be done to determine if one has it. Our highschool has 12 confirmed cases. One of our doctors who goes to church with us is a pediatrician. He said instead of taking Mallory in to be checked, just start her on Tamiflu. Costly medication....About $83 even with drug insurance! My BCBS insurance drug book list Tamiflu but it is a class 3 drug and has to be approved and in limited amounts. I'd just have to do without it. I pray that I don't get it from her. There is much more about the Swine Flu. I have 3 pages that I printed off. Google the Swine Flu and pick a reliable site and be aware of what you need to do or not go. Wow, scary, thanks for the info AlaNurse. |

I went yesterday to stock up on meds. Mostly for the kids. Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Cold/Sinus meds, Diarrhea, and started really pushing the vitamins yesterday. I have a feeling this is going to be a rough fall and winter. Yuck!! |

Quote AlaNurse: Your're welcome cole.... Brooke, Mallory said she feels worse today. She has had pneumonia 4 times in the past and we have to keep a check on her lungs. She will get a chest x-ray in the morning. The last time she had pneumonia it was double pneumonia and we didn't even know it until the x-ray. She had fever and felt bad at that time. BTW.....Tamiflu with drug insurance cost $86.93 and retails for $95.89, so insurance pay very little on it. My youngest son he was 3 years old and I had the flu a couple of years ago and it cost us over $160 on tamiflu. It's just crazy. I hope your granddaughter a has speedy recovery. |

As i'm getting ready for work this morning i noticed while brushing my teeth that i was using his toothbrush by mistake. (GROSS) But now i'm freakin out, OMG! It's all around me. Oh the horrah. |

The most common complication of any type of flu is a secondary bacterial chest infection, such as bronchitis. This can become serious and develop into pnuemonia. A course of antibiotics will usually cure this, but the infection sometimes becomes life-threatening. So everyone should be alert to this if you or someone you know gets any type of flu. On the Tamiflu leaflet, it reads that Tamiflu is NOT a substitution for the yearly flu vaccine. We should continue to get the flu shot as we have been doing. Tamiflu is a 75 mg. capsule and to be taken twice a day for 5 days. |

We have a little elderly lady in our church who carries Lysol and wipes with her everywhere she goes. She used to pick her grandson up from school. She would Lysol car door handles and everything he touched when he got out of the car. We used to laugh at her. Since I've had my own kids, I don't think she's so silly now! I'm actually becoming her!! In Sunny's words... Oh the horrah!! |

I felt that God protected me so I could continue to take care of the sick. |

Our school nurse told us today that it is unlikely that the people in the over 50 category will get this flu, b/c we have been exposed to so much in our lives. It is the younger people that the CDC is worried about and that is why, at least in Ohio, they are thinking of giving mass innoculations in the schools. She told us to wash our hands and have the kids wash their hands over and over. |

Quote bmes: sorry to go off topic from the swine flu, but i just realized what THE MOST painful thing in the ENTIRE WORLD is!!! watching my daughter eat!! ugh. oh......my.......gawwwwwwwwd!!!! truly so so painful. she's slower than molasses man!!! i'm done eating, my son is done eating and she'll not even be half way through her meal....then i just can't stand to sit there anymore, so i start cleaning the kitchen, and she'll sit there for almost another 30-45 minutes!!!!! WHHHHAAAAA!!! i mean i've heard that it's good to actually eat slower. it's better for you. but she seriously takes it to the EXTREME of slowness!!! LOL!! How old is she? My sister eats real slow, talking over an hour to finish a meal but that is because she suffers from acid reflux and heart burn so has to. Edited to ask.. Alanurse, how is your granddaugher doing now? |
