Why Nick and not Melanie?

Why is it that Nick turns out to be the bad guy? I like Nick and I think Melanie should be the one goes to prison. Sometimes I just want to stop watching Days, because it looks like it going down hill. But, there's two good things going for days is the new Brady and Rafe. WOW. I would watch it just for the two of them. |

I thought that I read someplace that the actor that plays Nick wanted to leave the show so he could move on to other things (shows with people in his own age group)? |
