Lexie, through no fault of her own (sort of), desserted Theo when he was what? About 2 years old? I have always sensed that Theo was angry with Lexie. Today, he took a nose-dive into the mattress when she screamed his name. I think she really scared him. |

Children with Autism (my nephew has it) typically don't like loud noises, so hearing Lexie scream he shut down and covered his ears. I see it with my nephew all the time. They do tend to be afraid of new things, they have a comfort zone and don't like to be out of it. |

I haven't had any experience with children with autism but I have read many articles and I know that autistic children or adults can't stand loud noises. |

Probably because Lexie is a nag. All she does is nag that kid. On one hand I can applaud the show for dealing with autism, however, that is not how autistic children behave. I have a 37 year old godson who has autism. He has NEVER acted like that. I just wish they would do the storyline the justice and care that it deserves. I do, however, think the child is doing a wonderful job. Must be difficult for him not to respond. Lexie, however, is one annoying mother. |

Here's what I see with Theo and Chelsea: 1. see makes eye contact with him (lexie does too) very imp! 2. her voice is firm (but kind) 3. she doesn't just talk, talk, talk to him- she asks questions that require a yes or no answer (usually) 4. they get fixated on a something (a toy car, a milk cap, stuffed animal or a person and it truly becomes a passion for them. My mother is sometimes better with my nephew than my sister- it just happens. Theo and Chelsea' scenes just melt my heart, it is wonderful to see! I'm a huge Rachel Melvin fan and I just love her more when Chelsea and Theo are on! I am hopefull we will find the missing piece of the puzzle to cure Autism. I hope that helped some of you, life is truly challenging for the parents and children. kelli Thanks so much for this post and the information you shared. I LOVE the Chelsea/Theo scenes too. I to am a huge RM fan and I think RM is great in her scenes with the little guy that plays Theo. They are both wonderful! |
