I know there was a thread about Theo's autism but I couldn't find it to post this there. But I found this interesting and wanted to share it. His autism story is based on Head Writer Dena Higley and her son Conner. He was diagnosed with autism at age 3. Some of the dialogue and scenes used in the show were actually said or experienced by Dena and her husband. Days is working with an autism group to make this storyline as accurate as possible.

I think its sad..I actually feel like that Lexi is going thru what every Mother is going thru that has a child with autism or any other problem. She dont know how to interact with him or where to start.
I believe down the line Theo and Lexi will have a relationship that she wanted, it just takes more time and dedication than normal. She first has to come to terms with this and stop blaming herself before she goes forward, with some women it takes a bit longer.
I for one like the s/l, it brings a different field to the show that I dont think any soap has done before.

it is a touching story but i dont think its a good storyline. my thought are that this storyline is gonna end with lexie and abe getting divorced. the whole autism thing seems to be causing alot of tension and driving a wedge between those two. im fine with that wedge, i never much cared for them two together or seeing any romantic scenes with them. they have no chemisty whatsoever

There was a little boy on America's got talent who was 6 years old but did not learn to talk until he was 3 years old because he was autistic. That boy could sing like an angel! And, you never saw so much love and pride on 2 parents' faces like that boy's parents had for their son.

When asked how long he had been singing, the boy replied "Ever since I could talk at age 3!" LOL He was so cute and full of charm. I don't think he made it to the top 40, but he should have.

I was thinkin' it would be great if they could cast that little boy to play Theo for awhile. They could do something really special with that.

My son was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome (a form of Autism) at age 8.

Like Lexi, I wondered what I did wrong, I cried over it, and I felt sorry for myself and my son. I find the portrayal of Lexi, Abe & Theo to be very realistic.

Also, the wedge between Lexi and Abe as a result of this diagnosis is also fairly typical, and very well portrayed.

I can understand viewers not liking this storyline. I think it's being handled very well. I just hope they don't find a "magic cure" for Theo. Those of us living with it can tell you there is no magic cure.

I saw the show too and when he sang Ben it was done so beautifully I started to cry. He was a little angel.

that is rude, actually. using the word retard is rude. you shouldn't talk that way. lexie is acting this very well and normal like what tel4plm said. i feel for you, tel4plm. i read the news thing about dena on this site and it's a sad cross to hold.

Given the subject..that remark was extremely rude..just uncalled for...
Dena has a child with Autism..and so does Bryan (lucas)
In fact Bryan is a single dad to his son...
Bryan is a leader in the cure for Autism and for awareness..
Not all cases of Autism are the same...
But I commend the writers..Dena and Bryan for using their experiences to bring this story out..
A little compassion here...
