I am just curious... does it make any sense to have fired Deidre and Drake because they couldn't afford to keep them, but then they hire all these new people? I am the only one that thinks this doesn't make any sense? What is your opinion? This is JMO!

Nope. It makes no sense at all, and it was a stupid move on Corday's part.

I thought that Chrissi told us awhile back that money was the issue with letting them go. Those vets wanted a lot of money to stay on the show, and,apparently, were not willing to take a pay cut to stay. The new people they hired were willing to work for a lot less money. Even Ali, from what I have heard, took quite a pay cut again this year to stay.

Interesting! It's too bad that money os the root of all evil, not that those actors were evil, just that their departure changed the dynamic of the show. The new people are great, but what I NEVER understood is why they hired the likes of Kevin Dobson,Ralph Waite,Shirley Jones oh and Joe Penny?? Short lived parts that probably came at a nice price. I so wish they could work some of the oldies back into the show!

That's why the story lines are dumber than usual. TOO TOO many new people, that frankly, nobody really cares about. They pop in out of nowhere, and seem to take control of everyone's life. I just don't get it.

I agree. The fans will increase even more with Carly and Vivian coming on board.

I am suprising myself by saying...I think I agree with the casting changes. Looking at all the posts on melanie, mia, rafe, etc...it appears people are starting to bond with these new characters.

I'm not saying I don't miss Jarlena, but I'm loving the show more than ever (and I'd rather look at Brady and Ari making out than the botoxed oldies too), and I'm guessing a handful of these characters cost the same as a Marlena. And the vets that are returning are probably costing the show a lot less as well--and I'm excited, since I haven't seen them in so long. In the meantime, IMO, I think the writing is wittier than ever and the storylines are more engaging.

I agree with you. The new cast members, for the most part, are growing on the audience and are refreshing. I would like to see them work the vets in, even for short periods of time. It would make the show seem a little more connected.

I had heard a rumor at one time that TPTB were working on trying to get Dee and Drake back for a brief time, but I guess that fell through. I also recently read that TPTB are thinking of bringing Steve ( Patch) back, but no mention of Kayla.
I really think that would be a good idea, as they need some more good guys on the show. Right now we have Rafe, Brady, and Bo. Roman is barely on the show anymore and Bo hasn't been around much either.

It was also in the news a while back that Lauren Koslow (Kate) had to take a VERY large paycut when her contract was renewed.

No, it makes no sense to cut corners as they have done. I definitely agree with you; however firing experienced, long-time employees and substituting them with new people is certainly nothing new to Big Business.
